I saw a psychiatrist at PsyQ because I had severe insomnia. Without thorough prior medical…read moreexamination he prescribed me with two different kinds of antipsychotics, which he said would help me sleep. This type of medication is made for people who suffer from schizophrenia and/or bipolar disorder. However I was never diagnosed with this type of disease, neither was I evaluated through FMRI or QEEG. The pills that he had prescribed helped me sleep, but they also had several seriously sickening effects on me, which my psychiatrist had not informed me about. My personality, thoughts, awareness and energy levels severely changed. I became very confused, forgetful, extremely tired and later in the day I would get very anxious and delusional. Before taking this medication, I had never experienced any of these symptoms. In the three years that I have been on the pills, my life changed radically. I wasn't able to work or step outside without getting lost, losing track of time or losing my mind and focus. Whereas schizophrenic people receive these drugs to reduce symptoms such as hearing voices, I actually started hearing voices that told me where to go or what to do, which at several times put me in danger. For example I would go on endless walks late at night and get lost in the middle of nowhere. One time that this happened, also in the middle of the night, I was threatened by a man in a car who told me to get in his vehicle and come with him. After I refused he followed me in his car and I had to run back to where I was living at the time. One time I had gotten so confused and terrified, my psychiatrist at PsyQ convinced me to go to the Lentis clinic for temporary treatment. While staying at this clinic, I was physically harassed by another patient I didn't know personally, who took photos of me as the harassment took place. Having become highly dependent on the drugs for sleeping but also suffering from the clearly sickening effects, I got in a poor social and financial situation and I was forced to move to another neighbourhood that turned out to be unsafe as well. Besides the harassment in the clinic and having moved to another home, I also got into a violent incident that led to a concussion. I can state without a doubt that the prescription of these drugs at PsyQ led to serious and permanent damage. Looking back, I am very doubtful about why my psychiatrist never questioned the potential underlying cause(s) of my sleeping problems. It seems to me that, despite my own and not substandard communication capabilities, a psychiatrist has a considerable responsibility when it comes to investigating the underlying cause of an issue and asking questions, rather than to jump to conclusions about serious and complex mental diseases, leading to a rushed prescription of heavy drugs that turned out to be diseasing rather than curing. It took me very long to realise this, because I was so drugged and wasn't able to properly look into my own situation. I literally had to walk into various walls involving harassment, violence and criminal activity, before I finally woke up and took action. I recently saw my general practitioner who referred me to a different organisation. Not planning on going back to PsyQ or Lentis ever again.
