One day I was driving along and saw a sign out front saying "free meal on Tuesday and Friday 11:30…read moreto 1:00". I had 1/2 hour to spare so I thought to myself that I could use lunch at this time. I entered the hall and was greeted very welcoming and with kindness and willingness to serve. The volunteers couldn't be nicer. The food did not look appealing to me so I had a bowl of fruit (not fresh). I observed the goings on and became inquisitive (as I always do). It was he end of the serving of the meals and then I noticed the pantry offerings. They gave me bread and basil with roots in a container which I could plant and a bag of clothes which were ratty tatty and perfumy smelling . It was near to the end. I thought I will go one more time tothis church and gather food for a person that cannot get out and has little coinage for extra food. I went back on Thursday and sloppy joes type meal was being offered. I don't really eat much meat and couldn't really tell exactly what was served. I had a number but it was too high to really have a choice selection. I did get a few things though. It seems that they have a large supply of bread. I saw people those wheeled folding shopping carts over flowing with food items and such but there was still fruit and vegetables for me to make salsa and boxes of cheese left brhind. A lady across the table said I have to come at 7:30. Thats the only way for "selection" Well, she was right. My bag filled up that I could barely handle it. It was like trick or treat. I arrived home and started dividing up the food for three people. As I started doing so and checking expiration dates my heart was saddened. Food had expired over a few days, over a few weeks, and over the month, ssome smelled rancid, and started molding. I was left with a small handful of edible items. Now I didn't want to react at all but I ask the question.....what to make of this. You decide and let me know. I couldnt slam them because I know it is well intentioned.....after all, I just don't need to take any of it at all......my choice . God bless you and the food he provides.

Through the process of serving and breaking bread on numerous occasions I got to know the man and his passion for God and serving his people. A very personable and genuine person I wouldn't hesitate visiting his church if I lived in his area, in fact I look forward to doing so soon. In fact if you live in the area and are looking for a church or a place to call home I would highly recommend Hope in the Valley Baptist Church.

Yesterday was my grandmother's funeral. But it didn't feel like a funeral. It felt like a church…read moresermon. A service. Not a celebration of life as they said it was. They only originally allowed 2 immediate family members to speak about my grandmother. And my family fought for 4. But her grandchildren and any other family members who didn't speak were subjected to the karaoke mic in the Cafe AFTER the service which not one person used. I couldn't speak on my grandmother's funeral because they needed to have a sermon to fulfill their agenda of speaking on whether a boy should be a boy or a girl should be a girl going as far as bringing chromosomes into the mix. I couldn't speak at my grandmother's funeral because they needed to pump 1 more worship song into the mix to meet a quota I'm assuming. The 2 pastors spoke more about the "word of God" than my actual gramma. Some said this is what she would have wanted but no it wasn't. She was a godly woman yes but she was a Family Woman and would have wanted everyone to get together and speak and tell stories. I have been to many funerals. I was even able to speak at my coworkers funeral. But I couldn't speak at my grandmother's. Absolutely the worst funeral I've ever been too as it was hijacked and used by the church instead of sending her off or giving the family the closure we needed. You can't fix this. There isn't a "redo" button. My grammas gone. An absolute travesty of a service for a woman who deserved the world. A woman who made towels for all of my swimmates in highschool with their names on it, but no one will know. The same woman who joined me on many business adventures like buying a cutco set from me or joining me when I joined Primerica for a short time. A woman who made me shirts for my reptile business to support me. The woman who gave me my green thumb. But no one will know. Because I didn't get to speak at my grammas funeral.

God lead me to this church that would prove to be a source of great love, support, and strength at…read morea critical point in my life. They provide literal shelter and safety for me when I had no one and nowhere else to go--I found rest, community, hope, and safety. Pastor Glen speaks from the living Word, messages are deep, impactful, and invites reflection, conviction, and motivation. The congregation is warm and welcoming---they are truly living out being the hands and feet of Jesus. I don't know where I would have been or how I could have gotten through these past two years without them.

I'm not a fan of churches that constantly say how we are all sinners and how we must pray for forgiveness. I walked in feeling excited, happy, and hopeful and walked out feeling sad, depressed, and like scum. Not the feeing I want to feel after going to church. I will continue to search for churches that have life learning lessons and teach about God's love.
