They expanded the church dramatically and it is beautiful. The church; growing up was small, always packed during masses but it was cozy. The church community has grown drastically, and even though they expanded the church itself to triple the size it was, during mass, it is still packed. That is how popular this church is. They offer a lot of masses throughout the week and there are always events and special masses going on. I don't attend mass as often as one should; a lot of us are guilty on that. The community is so welcoming though and to just attend one, you may enjoy it enough to go back. It's so beautiful inside and new. Lots of details, very large inside and seating is a semi circle around the alter. Give it a try.

What a amazing church…read more This church is part of Assembly Of God Group I have a few issues with that group but that's another story. This Church has a large staff of pastors and administrative help. Thus a large and robust outreach programs. So larger in fact the church has a huge international outreach mission. They have a ministry for what seems like everything. The music I heard that night was upbeat and the songs came from HillSong. The two singers were extremely talented the gentlemen playing the guitar did a great job and we found out that he was the pastor's son. The lady singer is a graduate from Berkeley and his worship leader a different church. She has a really nice voice. I have to give a special shout out to the man who was in the back just beating a box yes a box. This man made the box sound like a drum. It's was amazing to see and hear. I went up to him after services to let him know I was shocked to see him just beat a box and other people that were around heard me and were also just shocked. It was a site to see. The message was on giving God Thanks in everything we do. In everything we do don't worry as it won't help. The only thing that we can do is Pray and give God his Thanks. The lady who gave the message was a reverend so that is really cool. She also gave the message in a very easy way to put into our daily life. She for some reason only give summons 3/4 times a year. She should be doing it a lot more as she good at it. I have been here a few times before and will look forward to coming back at some point. The seats are very comfortable. They also have a child center for the kids. They also give you a cool welcome gift. Because it a large church the regulars/ushers will need to do a better job welcoming newbies. They also open alter prayer and only do Communion once a month. The huge plus is that they have a late Sunday service. It starts at 6:30

The hymnals are still put up the old fashion way wooden board and all. The tradition I loved the most was when Ryan the pastor asked the parishioners about pray request. This may seems like not a big deal to you but it truly is. Your asking your self Why?? This is not seen in most church's anymore. It had build a sense of trust and camaraderie with the family. That right I said family why because that you see when you walk in and its what you hear about when you talk to people that go there. It's a church family that is always looking to expand. As you walk in the front door your immediately overcome by the amazingly precious blue light waves. This blue holo comes from the floor-to-ceiling blue stain glass fills the church's space and warms you all as you walk in. It gives you a sense of blessing are coming your way. My daughter really had fun at the Sunday School she brought back a gift that she made for my wife and I. The school is taught by the Pastor's wife which I loved because is remained me when I went to Sunday daycare with my parents. If you bring your kids you will also find that you just don't drop them off as you walk in kids are actually welcomed to stay with the parents for the 1st scripture reading that comes from the old testament the Palm Sunday were visited. Surprisingly my daughter did not kick the benches in front of her or scream bad words (Miracles Can Happen) she was quit and sat there listening and then asked me questions about God while we were driving back home after service. This is the 1st time she has asked me a question about faith. MMC also has a lot of events going on. Check the website as its updated regularly. Look for Ryan's Blog it's a cool read. The music is traditional and very upbeat. There is a young girl who's name I don't know that has been truly blessed with the great talent of playing the piano. Makes me want to put my daughter in piano lessons and then have go on talent shows and win money.... We're was I?? The lead signer is named Chuck I believe. Chuck has a very cool voice country with a little bit of Massachusetts Twain and grit added. As he was signing you felt that love and passions he has. He not only sings but also plays the guitar with a very cool cross patch on his neck strap. I collect patches so I noticed. The Pastor Ryan him self is a great guy. He loves and is really proud of the church and his county. He unselfishly seats on a public seat to beautify the community in which he lives in and were the church is located. He also sings and plays a signal drum thing. Maybe called I Bongo I don't know. Here's the kicker for me Matthews Memorial Church is over 150 years old it's has a rich and unique history of being in Lowell, MA and then replanting I mean church building and pastor's house and all not just the location to Chelmsford, MA. The fact that this church has that much history may lead you to ponder if the Pastor is old maybe ancient and has been set in is ways of old outdated teachings and just boring. You would be complete wrong I mean wrong as........ lying to a pastor in church wrong or lying to a cop wrong about why you were speeding on I-95. Ryan is young fresh, full of energy and has a passion to not just spread but to truly understands and most importantly LIVING the Gospel day in and day out. He's a voice in the Community and a bold leader in the church and is not afraid to do things his way. Ryan him self is redefining what it means to lead service at MMC. He's open the door to give fellow church goers a chance to go up on the alter and read the Bible. He's brought a updated feel to this place all while keeping the rich history alive and respecting what former pastors laid out for him. After the service ended we might as well hear Sinatra's I did it my way. I'm sure Ryan may want to hear Diamond's Sweet Caroline instead. On a side note I love Sinatra's New York, New York!!!!

When we first attended the church, we were drawn in by the music, and then gradually welcomed in by a few more outgoing members. It is true that Unitarian Universalists tend to be introverts which can make us appear aloof. But we've made it our mission to step out of our shells and live out our promise to be welcoming. There is so much under the surface here at UUCR. It is a tapestry of people with varying religious backgrounds who've come to seek together. It's a place where atheists, Jews, agnostics, Buddhists, Humanists, and Christians (and so on) can share community, care for each other, and support each other's search for truth and contentment. It's a place of covenant not of creed, based on mutual respect. As a parent, I've seen how it has nurtured, challenged, and supported our children in a way that gives me hope for the future. UUCR is just like any other community. It requires work and money to sustain. Yes, there are committees and pledge drives and all the other trappings (beautiful and not so beautiful) of an extended family. But it is family and they have supported my family in so many ways. If your looking for a religious community, come by on Sunday. Look for me or our amazing member services coordinator Melissa. We'd be happy to introduce you around.

Also, I don't "get it" when these younger priests (he appears to be under 40) prance around in cassocks and those funny looking hats with the pom poms (can't think of the name of them). I thought the reforms of Vat 2 did away with all that "finery." I'm sure he "means well," but Father, chill, will ya with the ecclesiastical drag. And it's not the local pastor's fault, but what is it with this new translation of the Mass? I'm sure the sentence structure was fine in Latin, but in English is awkward at best and not understandable at its worst. I see it as a sign of the creeping exlusionary policies of the RC church. We sing "All are Welcome," but we mean "Some, but not All, are Welcome." We used to be regular attendees at St. Mary's back in the 80's and 90's, (my wife and I both went to the school through 8th grade) but we started going to the Paulist Center in Boston when St. Mary's took a 180 degree turn in 1997 back to the 19th century. We go to St. Mary's when we cannot get into Boston or we go to the Unitarian meeting house a few steps away where we know we are not going to get a political barage about contraception and same sex marriage, but will be accepted where we are.
