If you're familiar with communicators like Josh Howerton or Wes Huff, it has that kind of balance with strong biblical depth and clarity. What really stands out is the sense of community. It feels local and personal, not like a large corporate style church. There's a real opportunity to get connected, grow, and actively follow the Lord alongside others. Another unique strength is that the original founding pastor is still involved in ministry and available to people, which adds a depth of wisdom and continuity that you don't often see. Between the Summit Lunch Program, Backpacks for kids heading back to school, the mobile food pantry, and sponsoring apartments at Hillcrest Transitional Housing--there's always something going on to help folks out. It's not just talk here; people really roll up their sleeves and do the work. We usually catch the 10:30 contemporary service, and it's the best part of our week. The worship music is great, and our pastors have a knack for breaking down the Word in a way that actually sticks with you. I find myself thinking about the message all week long. This is a beautiful church, friendly people, the 10:00am Mass has enough kids to fill Noah's Arc, and they get a chance to drop off their "offering" before communion -- this is a great idea, because it gets kids thinking about giving back at an early age. What a peaceful place, a reverent place, and at the end of the day, a place where Jesus is truly present, body, blood, soul and divinity every time Mass is offered. the 5th star was earned when I saw their adoration chapel-- not only was it beautiful, it was full of people. First when you enter the parking lot they have people directing you. As you're walking in they have people greeting you that seem very genuine and happy. As a lifelong Lutheran who's moved around a bit, I've worshiped in churches where people looked at you vaguely mistrustfully if you're not a descendant of church fathers from 80 years ago, super nontraditional urban storefront, mission-style churches, elder-heavy churches, youth-centric churches, you name it. MLLC is both tight-knit and very, very welcoming, from my perspective as a relative newcomer, and a community that is very dedicated to serving and to nurturing the good in one another. Pastor Hans is warm and friendly, an engaging, talented speaker - sermons here are interesting, accessible, thought-provoking, and not without humor from time to time (I'd like to know of another church in the metro where the pastor agrees to don a gigantic banana costume and do a dance if the parishioners exceed a milestone quantity of peanut butter and jelly to donate to hunger relief efforts). The music is top-notch, with a talented group of musicians providing both traditional and contemporary sounds. The congregation is very active and and involved in projects both in the church and out in the community. There's a little something for everyone here...a very nice, affirming community of faith.
