We had the best week of our lives. My husband only rode a horse twice in his life before arriving and he loved it. The owners and entire staff knew exactly how to teach with safety and comfortably as their main concern. By Friday he was loping his horse. All the horses are treated and trained so well - My horse "tugger" was so smart and allowed me to progress each day with no issues. Mind blowing the amount of work everyone pitches in each morning, noon and night. Homemade breads and meals x3 a day, horses are loved and cared for with all the colts, cows to the ranch dogs/cats! Entertainment each evening was fun and seems to be enjoyed by all (including staff and volunteers). From the kitchen staff, wranglers to the owners - everyone pitched in with any duties that needed to be done. Kids were so so happy playing all the time and I enjoyed many conversations with them. I first came to Sprucedale over 25 years ago when I was 11. My siblings (all 8 of them) and I would always talk about how fun and memorable it was over the ensuing years. So when my brother told me he was going and extended an invite I jumped on the opportunity. I couldn't wait to tell my wife and kids where we were going and that they'd be blown away by the experience. We headed out from Southern California and it was about an 11 hour drive. We got there Sunday evening and had a fantastic dinner and introduced ourselves to the other guests and the staff. The whole vibe is very warm, inviting and fun. The owners, the Wiltbank family, ensure that this great energy is constant throughout the entire ranch for the entire stay. Our cabin was a quaint 2 bedroom with a potbelly wood stove for warmth. We had kindling and logs on our porch to light the fire each night and morning. The accommodations are similar to glamping. Comfy beds, warm water, toilet and a shower. These cabins were built in the 40s so they're old but they are legit log cabins which is so cool and they serve their purpose well. Each day is filled with horseback riding and horse games for the kids. My little girl is 6 and my boy is 8 and they were entertained daily and wiped out each night. My wife and I rode horses daily as well as participated in some of the more advanced "wrangler rides". Every meal was from scratch and get ready to eat!! It comes out fresh and it's SO DANG GOOD. After every meal my son would say "I can't wait to see what the next meal is"! That pretty much sums up the food for the week. The cell service is almost non-existent and there's no Wifi and I loved it. It was much needed and my brain started to clear up and actually have dreams again!! Go figure. My daughter cried and cried when we were leaving and said "why can't we just stay for just 100 more weeks...daddy can become a wrangler and work here". Needless to say the ranch is excellent for family bonding, disconnecting from the world, enjoying Mother Nature, good food and excellent hosts and guests. I can't recommend Sprucedale enough and I will be back next year. No more 25 year gaps for this guy!! read more

An amazing place, owned and staffed by amazing people! Majestic scenery, rustic but with all necessary amenities. Neither my wife nor I had ridden horses before staying at Sprucedale, but by the end of 5 days we were both comfortable in the saddle, mounting and controlling the horses, and riding on trails. We even were able to participate in their mini rodeo! The food is simple, but great, and the friendly, family atmosphere is wonderful. Our family just had the best week at Sprucedale! I was a little nervous since my kids have never ridden horses (and I haven't since I was a kid) but I cannot say enough good things about our experience. The wranglers were all so helpful, kind and patient with us. They went the extra mile to make sure we were all comfortable and safe. And they made it so fun!! The scenery is just gorgeous and my kids had a blast running wild and getting dirty and I loved the slow cowboy pace, the quiet and being unplugged from the rest of the world. A few warnings for first timers like myself... 1. You will get dirty! This place is a legit ranch so next time we go I will bring extra sets of clothes & socks so I have something clean after a nice hot shower! Haha. 2. Your kids will cry when it's time to leave! We stayed a whole week and they asked if we could stay forever. This place is literally a dream. 3. Be prepared to gain a few pounds! The food is amazing and literally everything is homemade and delicious, my jeans were definitely getting tight by the end of the week! We are already planning our trip for next year! read more

This place is very special! Went with my family summer 2023 and had a wonderful time. Primary focus is on horseback riding. If you want to get really comfortable on a horse this is a great place to go! It is not your fancy ranch. The people are down to earth, welcoming and fun! Food is good and the staff are exceptional! My 6 year old got to explore and play and my teen had a bunch of teens to hang with as a-lot of the staff are teens. Don't let that detour you, the staff are all great! I love the family vibes. Beautiful grounds & cabins. Staff made us feel "at home" & they were ALL very friendly. Trail rides were a highlight for our family - wish we could have stayed longer! Plentiful & yummy meals provided - they think of everything. We will definitely go back. read more
