I would call him The Mighty Thor even if Marvel hadn't already published a comic book of the same name. My wife was seeing The Mighty One for dry needling (IMS, that is - not needling as in teasing - I think) so I decided to go in for said adjustment as I thought it would be a better use of my time than reading People magazine in the reception area. I'm also a glutton for pain. (Not that a chiropractic adjustment is painful. More on that later.) It's my attraction to pain that forces me to sleep in the trunk of my car on my belly with a spare tire for a blanket. So needless to say, after a few months of this I needed to be un-pretzled. (I never know how bad it truly was until after I see the doc.) Dr. Gilbertson is witty, personable, and likes hockey. He totally places you at ease while he's snapping your neck. And no, it doesn't hurt. His admin person, Natasha, is also totally friendly and charming. She makes me feel a little bad that I'll never truly be that outgoing and captivating. All in all, a visit to Dr. Gilbertson's office could be the feel-good day of anyone's week. For the past few days I've been running backwards into walls just to give myself a legit reason to go back there. He does more than just adjustments and dry needling. He also does active release therapy and something called radial shockwave therapy. I'm not sure what that is but I picture it involving an Electric Chair. I'll look for one next time I'm there. In the meantime, I have walls to bang into and trunks to sleep in.

Natasha is the woman that answers the phone, greets visitors, processes payments, and everything else. Every time I was there, she was always so pleasant even though she's busy. They also do direct billing with insurance companies. The first time I saw Dr. Gilbertson, he asked me about what was going on and I told him my issue. He used needles on my back and bottom. I'm used to acupuncture needles so I wasn't nervous or concerned of the process. I also read about IMS before the visit. He also said chiropractic treatment would not help me at this point and may even make it worse. I went a few more times and he put the needles in my leg as well and one time I felt it woke up my leg down to my foot! After my last visit, Dr. Gilbertson asked me if I felt better after the treatments and I did but it was temporary and didn't last long. This is where I felt Dr. Gilbertson cares about people first and patients second. He advised me what he thought I should do and told me if I wanted acupuncture in the future to go back. But he did not tell me keep coming back because he wanted my $85/treatment. I felt he genuinely cared about my well being even if that meant not seeing me again. He is a good and busy professional as there's a steady stream of patients coming in and going out. With so many health professionals, only wish we had more like Dr. Gilbertson around.

The nature of my back injuries (from 1989) are life-long and I will never be pain-free, but Dr. Yee's dedication and practice has been able to accommodate my schedule over the years, providing ongoing relief. I have followed Dr. Yee to his new location just east of Mayfield Common and he is the only Chiropractor in Edmonton I will consider. It was on a Saturday, and the receptionist gave me clear directions on where to park and how to get to the location. When I arrived, he introduced himself (Constantine!), and gave me three pages for me to fill out regarding my information/history. The chiropractor, Dr. Yee, saw me shortly after my arrival and took a complete history, did a thorough exam, and then tried his best to fix me (apparently my upper spine/ribs are rather difficult to move). He was also personable. The three "As": able, available, and affable. This is what you want in a health care provider! His office also provides sport medicine consults and massage therapy and acupuncture. There's a small amount of free parking to be had; otherwise, arrive early and park across the street at the Meadowlark Mall. More updates as I see the need. EDIT: My second visit was of similar high quality as the first. Plus, I've had very little pain since! Success! THEN, a few days later, I received a follow-up phone call from Constantine to find out how I was doing. I really like their customer service. I'd given them 4.5 stars if I could. The only draw back is both times I was there, my asthma was triggered by a strong smelling ?oil used in the massage therapy room -- it wasn't a bad scent, either, but it makes me cough. I know a lot of chiropractors don't do manual adjustments anymore - and Dr.Poon also has newer techniques as well, but I was specifically looking for this technique (increasingly hard to find). It works for me and if he knows what he is doing, I feel comfortable and safe. The clinic itself could use some updating, but I don't really care if the treatments work. What we discovered about the needs that my girls needed would have gone over looked and severe issues would have arose in there young adult life leading into there older years. Both girls have severe curve in there spine and there necks are straight, which is opposite of what they need to be. This is all treatable and can be reversed with Chiropractic Care.
