I grew up in Haddon Heights,…read morewent to preschool at the Methodist church on garden ave, elementary at 7th Ave, and then junior and senior high school at the Haddon Heights High School (HHHS) all six years from seventh grade thru twelfth. I suppose its not something you should review on yelp since I'm sure there's tons of school reviews elsewhere. But in general, and I can honestly say this, the schools did not prepare me for the future that I, personally, knew I was heading for. Because I test pretty well and have a real knack for retaining information, they tried to enter me into honors which I immediately dropped out of due to the amount of work expected from me. I was a fairly lazy student, you see. Also, most of my junior and senior years were wasted by the teachers telling me that I HAD to go to college and that I HAD to do projects relating to the colleges I was applying to. I applied to none in total. It basically ruined those last two years and I let my grades plummet in every class, especially english. I recognize that college is important for those planning on going right from high school. I also recognize that my teachers did not seem to give even the slightest care that I wasn't that sort of student those last two years. I ended up needing to be brided by my mother to graduate rather than drop out and test for my GED. The high point of my time in the haddon heights school district as a student was the guidance counselors. They aren't even called that anymore because it isn't P.C. enough or something. But my entire time, from kindergarten to senior year I managed to have an adult to talk to about anything that might possible be bothering me. That's something that helped in every way. Honestly, I can thank my high school guidance counselor for a lot but mainly the fact that he just sat and listened. Most parents need to pay for that sort of therapy.

My oldest has been here almost 3 years and my 2nd almost 1 year, both African American. As a single mother dropping my children off has been one less worry. Even during interviewing for better opportunities and running late on public transportation sending messages through their app provided made me feel at ease. Always getting a response and a simple take your time or no rush. When picking up my children its always hard to get them to leave. As the school is not only a classroom setting but have individual spaces for free play, a library, room for movies and basically an indoor gym. I like their concept here because if my children need a couple minutes to calm their energy the teachers allow for them to go to a more intimate space to still learn but also gather themselves. When I arrive at the school the owner or teacher at the time is always graceful in how they communicate the day. I do appreciate this very much here at the school. My kids always want to go back. Even out of school and we are close by they mention their school. Oh! They provide detailed reports on your child's progress and future planning for continued success as well. All teachers are hands on. Even if a teacher works with their individual group he/she will step in to assist. Its good to see that because our children are not perfect everyday. I like to see how the teachers will respond if I am not around. I like their style here. If you want your kids busy, doing hands on projects then you are at the right place. Holiday season is my favorite. The hold a lot of potlucks where I have friended many other parents. A few who are my good friends now. We do play dates out of school. Another favorite is when I get to buy my kids art. Even if all i have is a quarter(you get the point) just a fun activity. Also bringing in guest speakers, local field trips. They are creative in getting everyone involved. If you are a introverted parent that may change. You will find yourself really opening up. Highly recommend! Social environment is healthy and students are respectful of one another, faculty and staff. The campus has had some nice upgrades. But frankly, what the buildings or class rooms look like is not the most important thing. It's what goes on in the classrooms that matters. Keep that in mind as you "shop" for schools.

I value the education I got here tremendously - from Mr Duffany's excruciating but valuable sentence diagram the the late Señor Laserna's Spanish, which lasts with me still. I loved rowing crew and Doc Kinney's art class/introspective therapy sessions, could have done without some of the cookie-cutter jackasses and senses of entitlement. But all in all it was a good school for the area, one I think of with mostly fond memories, and I wish only the best for this place.

They are the 3rd worse in SPP scores out of ALL Philadelphia Charter Schools. From constant trouble makers when they leave school, gathering on small streets and harassing people as they walk by to the profanity laced general conversation which is daily in front of their schools when it lets out to now police activity having to control their behavior in the subway. The fact that in and out of school they are at the bottom of the barrel should be a walk up call to the city and state and they should close this school down. Clearly it is not doing what a Charter School is supposed to do and that is be better then the public school.
