The park is also very large with plenty of grass, trees for shade, picnic tables, covered eating areas, and restrooms. This really is an ideal place to spend a few hours letting the little ones get some exercise and have a picnic if you wish. So why only a three stars you ask? The neighborhood is AWFUL!!!! It is full of rift rafts who congregate at this park at all hours. During the day your likely to run into teenagers skipping from near by high school and middle school and occasionally you get a few tweekers who lay on the benches or sit on the playground equipment talking to themselves. The teenagers are the worst of the bunch, they come to smoke cigs and be as vulgar as possible. They also use the equipment for drawing inappropriate pictures on as well as their own personal toilet (I have seen this more then once). It's really a shame cause like I stated earlier this is a great park that is just suffering because it is being overrun by delinquents.

Now when I say "basic" I don't necessarily mean that it's bad. There are restrooms that are open to the public, playground equipment and a small field where you can play ball. In that aspect this is a great park for the neighborhood to come to. Parking is abundant and on a nice day I'm sure a very pleasant walk if you live nearby. I participate in hiding painted rocks and other trinkets, a popular group here in town and that is what led up to my first visit to this park. I have no complaints other than there is some clutter in some corners of the park like old, discarded clothing and such which brings the quotient down a little. Other than that it's a cute place!

It's not a big park, but it is neat. My 6-year-old daughter played on the playground for an hour and a half or so. She absolutely loved the zipline, as well as the merry-go-round, rock wall, swings, tire swing, bars, and jungle gyms/slides. There is also a field there, which we didn't have an opportunity to explore, but we will definitely swing back by on a sunny day or even better, for a picnic!

There is a nice array of playground equipment should you have children and want to have them go about some exercise while the adults have brief moments of peace. The restrooms are unlocked and usable. I can't say that is very much the case with Tacoma's parks and knowing what that can involve by being open all of the time in that town and being familiar with the reputation that comes with that city should make sense as to why. Also there is recycling options here where yo can take glass to have recycled which is nice as not many parks have this option. I say this because glass pickup no longer happens in Tacoma from the curbside so you have to go to a park or area that has a designated drop off. So that is a nice amenity as well when going to Cirque Park.

It's not a terribly large park or the kind of place where you spend an afternoon or a whole day with it utilizing the parks features so it isn't exactly a place that would attract people from out of town or many tourists( Like Point Defiance for example). There is a modern and fresh looking playground for kids to play on and a nice strip of land to play with your dog or an informal type of ball play which was nice to see.

Parking here is easy and there's 2 different lots with a lot of spaces. The slides can be slippery i've seen babies go down and hit their heads or kids who are wearing certain kinds of material that make them slide insanely fast so definitely keep this in mind if you have babies/toddlers. My beef with this place though is the other dog owners who don't clean up after their pups. Come on, guys! Do you really want your dogs mashing their paws in that filth, especially on a rainy day? I know that's not the park department's fault, but the neighborhood should have nice things if they don't know how to take care of them. I did like the gigantic trash cans which probably helps to keep the park clean. The place has solid amenities like picnic tables, a playground for the kids and space to play basketball and baseball, so this place has everything it needs to be great. Too bad the neighborhood doesn't know how to take care of this place.

Grass was maintained and two of the garbage cans had been recently emptied, one was overflowing. No bathroom but they did have a porta potty. Ferry Park is right in the middle of the street. The street divides around it which makes it very unique and memorable. In addition to that there is some signage that illustrates the history of the park which is very interesting. It sounds like this is Tacoma's first park which is cool. On these signs it describes the various face lifts the park has gone through over the years and how back in the 1940's the children in the neighborhood launched a protest due to the park experiencing disrepair and the removal of amenities. The children won out in that one. The park isn't a very big one so some of the changes that it has gone through is moving playground equipment to one corner of the park so the rest can be a playing field. At one point in time there were quite a few statues here but some got moved to Wright Park. Currently there aren't any statues at all. Kind of a sad thing... as the signs indicate that the park has experienced disrepair and neglect in the past it seems like the same issues remain. There are large cotton wood trees around the park fence and a very large branch came and struck one part of the fence, really busting it up. I'm not sure if this was recent or not... it appeared to be and may have been due to recent snowy weather but it is a bit of a concern as to how soon the repairs could happen. In comparison to other parks in town Ferry Park is definitely more on the basic side. There are no water features, pools to play in the summer (but there once was) or anything like that but the merit I found with this park was more it's history than anything else.

The biggest draw to this place is that the park is fully fenced in. If you have a runner, they can only get as far as the fence (as long as they don't know how to unlock it!) My kids aren't runners, but I like knowing that I can see anybody who is coming and going from the park at all times at the one entrance. The playground equipment is decent. I'd say it's geared towards kids who are little older (3+) as my two year old at the time was much too small and timid to attempt going on any of it. They had swings as well and some climbing structures which she was really interested in. The interesting thing about this park is that they have a ton of random toys strewn across the park. Riding toys, building toys, music toys... I'm assuming people come and donate them and just leave them, because there was no rhyme or reason and kids were just going at them like a free for all. Some of them were in iffy condition, but they didn't mind too much. All in all, it's a good little park! Definitely worth the stop if you're looking for safe, fun park in Fircrest.
