We were greeted warmly upon entering and I chatted with the knowlegable and friendly volunteer long enough to learn that they offer First Friday events with music, food and beverages and a chance to meet the artists of some of the work. While I didn't see anything I absolutely loved this trip aside from a few photographic pieces, this will be on my 'must stop' list in future visits to SC to see what new offerings they may have. I was elated with my choice upon walking in and immediately being greeted by the baristas. I didn't catch their names but all three were wonderful and super pleasant. I had some time to burn, so I opted to try an Iced Mocha Latte with Almond Milk. Since I'm a fan of little things, I was grateful for the eco-friendly cup that it came in without the straw...neat little option for an iced beverage. To compliment the latte, I decided to give one of the blueberry scones a try and did a silent dance when on of the baristas asked if I would like to have it served with butter.... uh, yes please! The latte was REALLY GOOD, so I will definitely be back to have that again. It wasn't too busy, as it was around noon on a Saturday, so I was able to grab a table without any issue. Looking around, it's easy to make out that this cafe welcomes the hearts of all artist near and far, as there is art on the wall along with a small selection of art supplies available for purchase towards the back. According to the recent email received, they have paint events, this particular event encouraging participants to wear their favorite sports jerseys (don't worry, I did see the wall of aprons available). The tattoo came out horrible and very dark to where the tattoo is completely black now and bled through so much. He packed so much black into the clock I wanted that you can't even see the Roman numerals now. What a complete waste of money and my tattoo looks like trash. The guy was such a jerk about it when I confronted him at the end of the tattoo. I told him it doesn't look like what I wanted and he completely dismissed me and so I left. They are conveniently located right on Forest Drive in Columbia, SC and inside of a small shopping plaza. So there is no issues with parking and they can accommodate small and large groups. We had 3 people in our group and the young lady that was working was very professional. I can't remember the staff employees name (I think it was Lucie) but she was very friendly and helpful during our entire experience. We had 2 different types of wood decorated projects for our homes, and was there for about 3-4 hours. The staff employee was very knowledgeable and took the time to educate us throughout both small projects. Based on this one time experience, I'd highly recommend this AR Workshop location and I'm sure that we will be back in near future!!!

The scope of the canal here is quite impressive and to me, reminiscent of the canal that runs into…read morethe heart of Washington DC, as this one is from around the same time and has a notable aesthetic similarity. This one doesn't go all the way to the mountains, but you could easily spend a day on it on foot, and biking and boating are options as well. The infrastructure was good, and multiple open bathrooms and water fountains were available. The paths were generally quite wide (as former towpaths) and had plenty of space for bikes and pedestrians to share, with a couple of interesting exceptions. I didn't do any tours, but I expect the history is worth pursuing.
