They wanted to charge me almost $1000. The dentist offered to fill some of my cavities right then and there- which now that I think about it was a tricky way to get me to commit to spending money and not have a chance to think about it. I got a second opinion and found out that I did have two cavities. I also had a problem with them overcharging me $150, which luckily my insurance caught. I always loved going to the dentist until I went to Richmond Family Dentist. As one person I talked to said, only go here if you have amazing dental insurance and don't mind the up sale. The receptionist had a hurried discussion with a higher up who advised "another 20 minutes OR SO" then started the lame short staffing excuse. So why do you make appointments then? She had no answer. However, during my appointment I learned he does not specialize in TMJ related situations at all and is incapable of diagnosing and treating pain related to TMJ. Apparently, this practice's idea of having a 'TMJ specialist' on staff is employing a regular dentist who can suggest an actual TMJ specialist, not even a medical referral, just a simple suggestion. I would've never came if I was made aware of this reality, as I have already visited many dentists who have suggested the same. They overrepresented their prestige, education, and capacities. All I was told was that I should see someone else as I appear to have problems with my TMJ, but it couldn't be diagnosed by this dentist. This was a wasted trip and I was told information I already knew. Their website has fraudulent reviews. Firstly, why would a business with under 5 Yelp reviews have hundreds of glowing and flattering reviews on their own website? The photos used by this practice are stock photos that are unrelated to the business itself. This is shady, why not use photos of your actual business to promote and advertise? Why feign hundreds of satisfactory reviews?

Awful, Awful, Awful Dentist Office! these people have NO IDEA what they are doing…read more 1) They shined a light in my mouth screening for oral cancer -- it took 2 minutes. At the end they tried to charge me $50 out of pocket!!! THEY NEVER ASKED MY PERMISSION TO DO THE SCREENING. So, I refused to pay it. 2) I had a crown ordered and I showed up for my appointment to have it put in. THERE WAS NO APPOINTMENT on the books for me EVER. They had to fit me in since I drove there but I had to wait for an hour to be seen. 3) I showed up for another appointment and they had me scheduled for the same day the NEXT week. I put it into my cell phone when the appointment was made...so either they told me the wrong date or they put it in their computer wrong. 4) THIS IS THE BIG ONE. They will DO THINGS that will void YOUR INSURANCE! Insurance has guidelines that has to be followed in order to be accepted. Smiles for Life is so INCOMPETENT that they will schedule things and do things in such a way that your insurance will DENY the procedure and you will be stuck with the WHOLE COSTS OUT OF YOUR POCKET. Bottom Line --- AVOID THIS PLACE!!!
