Sometimes a traveler can use a tranquil oasis at the airport. Although, I have to admit, I found…read moreFlughafen München to be a very easy experience as a visitor. Flying on Lufthansa, everything was streamlined for the ease and comfort of the visitor. But since I observe the 2-hour check-in rule, I had time to enjoy a meal. There are several options in Terminal 2, many of them focused on the meat and potatoes dishes that are key components in Bavarian cuisine. So it was nice to stumble upon Bistro Organic as an alternative. This "bio" cafe (German version of organic) offers the farm-to-table experience with salads, smoothies, fruit and drinks all packaged to-go, without any additives or preservatives. You can take you meal to the gate, hop on your plane, or dine-in at their zen space. Bistro Organic has a little more flair than your average airport space with Asian lanterns and an open plan with different seating options. There are several tables on either side of a long eating bar, with what I first assumed was an aquarium. No fish, just a tank percolating with green bubbles. After so many heavy meals in Munich, it was nice to have some lighter options as I was departing. The dining room was also quieter than the other dining options in the terminal. Ohmmm.

The atmosphere of the resturant was very groovy and ecentric. As well as, very clean. However the food was not great.. at all. They were plated very well but the chili was acidic and a lot of sour cream, which made the bowl gooey. The Gado gado sauce, which we thought was peanut sauce, was a weird and sweet consistency. We added a plethora of spices and still it did not change much. In addition, our food was sitting at the counter for awhile because we were told they would call our number, so it was also a little cold. However the water was free, which is something rare for europe. Personally I would not return.

We discovered it in a pamphlet on a bulletin board in a hostel that we stayed in. A "build your own" kind of place, you are able to custom order curries and salads. We ate here twice- I had a spicy peanut curry with rice and veggies one day and a salad with lots of bean, seed, and nut fixins another day. Both were very filling! I saw at least two locations of my Indigo- both near the center of Salzburg. One has dine-in seating, the other does not. As in America, getting avocado is extra- but it is a big portion, so its worth the extra $ if you're on the fence ;) Definitely a great option for travelers on a budget looking for healthy food options!

We took a river cruise along the Danube and a 'must stop' is in Passau Germany. In reading through…read moreliterature, about 500,000 people visit this small city that has about 50,000 full time residents. To say the least, this city is overrun with tourism. There are groups walking around everywhere, listening to their tour guides holding up the plastic 'lollypop' of all shapes and colors. Not far from the main square, we found a reasonably quiet street with a wonderful coffee shop and restaurant. Anton has two entrances, but we learned that they serve the same food. We actually came here twice in our day in Passau. We chose to sit inside for coffee and pastry and later, outside for lunch. The coffee and chai tea that we were able to enjoy along with the absolutely most extraordinary apple strudel were excellent. The staff were very helpful, guiding us to select what's best in the bakery. The atmosphere was comfortable. Clearly, nearly everyone here is a tourist, but it didn't have the feel of a tourist trap. We asked around and several people suggested that we return here for lunch. And so we did just that. Sitting outside we had the chance to watch the many tours and tourists walk by. The main downside was that it's legal to smoke outside in the EU, not inside. And there was a group of smokers several tables away. Not terrible, but could be better. For lunch we enjoyed the soup of the day, spinach dumplings and clams in pasta along with a side salad. Everything was very fresh, well seasoned, and truly delicious. As we had dessert and coffee earlier, we elected not to have them again. There are likely several good restaurants in Passau. This is the one we chose and we were very satisfied. One last suggestion, if you are in the city after about 5 PM, all of the tours and most tourists have left. If you choose to walk at this time of the day, you can really enjoy the beauty without the people walking everywhere around you.

My wife and I popped in to try the likor, a latte, and a serving of strudel. Everything was great!…read more What was exceptionally good was the service! We were greeted warmly in German and when the host/waiter detected our American accents, and difficultly speaking German, he immediately transitioned to English. What a pleasant and professional gentleman! He also provided us with English menus. Awesome! The ambiance is amazing. Old world meets new world. This was a great spot to take a quick break before heading back to the boat.
