My grandmother and I ate lunch here a few days ago. We were looking for a cafe to eat at and decided to try Spiders Cafe after seeing a number of other people eating there.
It felt like many other cafes in country towns: it was staffed by friendly people; the lunch menu featured items such as sandwiches, burgers, and baked potatoes; and there were a number of "homey" cakes and pastries for sale.
The Italian focaccia that I ate was okay but certainly not exciting. It contained salami, sun-dried tomato, capsicum, onion, cheese, and mushroom. Improvements I'd suggest include the use of a quality focaccia, quality salami, fresh olives (they tasted canned), caramelised instead of raw onion, and fried/sautéed instead of raw mushrooms.
Although I've given it a poor rating, the food satisfied my appetite and mostly met my expectations. Unfortunately I can't rate it higher when I compare it to the restaurants I'd choose to eat at in Melbourne and abroad. read more
