Every so often, you have the misfortune of dealing with a merchant who hates their job so much that…read morethey have lost all perspective as to what is acceptable when speaking or dealing with a client. Amuz certainly falls into this category for my wife and myself. They don't walk the line as to treating customers with contempt; Instead they cross the line and then keep running. We rented a large inflatable bouncy castle from this company last weekend for my daughter's 3rd birthday party at our home. The castle is extremely large and can easily fit 8 or 9 toddlers bouncing and jumping around. The bouncy castle itself was great. It served it's purpose and a good time was had by all. Unfortunately, the customer service from Amuz can only be described as dismissive, rude, and condescending throughout the entire process. From the first contact they preferred that we come pick up the bouncy castle and air pump from them. The thing weighs about 200 pounds and they are located in the West Island. We said we have no problem paying for the extra delivery fee. The real issue arose when they informed us that they would not set up the inflatable castle . Something about not having sufficient insurance coverage. This sounds nonsensical to me. They are worried that one of the children could get injured on the castle and their solution is to attempt to evade legal responsibility by the fact that they didn't inflate the apparatus. If it is defective, it wouldn't matter one bit who set it up. They are the ones renting it to me. They are the experts in this field. The faulty legal reasoning aside, what really irked me was the fact that they provided little to no instruction as to how to inflate the castle. On the phone, the woman was quite dismissive and condescending to my wife. She essentially told us that there are no instructions, that we should figure it out, and that no one else seems to have a problem with it. A classic take it or leave it attitude, as if she's doing us a big favour. When the delivery of the apparatus finally showed up the morning of the birthday party, the company employee told us we should figure it out ourselves, and that it's obvious. His primary concern was that we wrap it up the next day in a giant and neat spiral in the exact way it came. I'm standing here trying to make my daughter's birthday party a success, trying to figure out how to accomplish this task which I've never done before and this man's only concern is that we make his job easier tomorrow when it's time to pick the thing up. Thanks buddy! After several attempts and some trial and error I finally did figure out the mechanism. I won't bore Yelp readers with the details, but suffice it to say that there are several valves that have to be balanced and tied in a very specific way or else the entire castle deflates. I suppose a sheet of instructions would have killed them. The man left our house at approximately 9 AM and said he'd be back at the same time tomorrow to pick up the castle. Great! We had the party and once all the guests had left, my kids enjoyed the bouncy castle a little more on their own. As they wake up extremely early in the morning at the ages of 18 months and three years old, I promised them that they could go in the castle one more time at 6:30am before I deflated it and packed it up. The next morning after they played in it, I turned off the air pump, deflated the castle, and started the process of rolling it up at about 7:15 in the morning when a woman wandered into my back yard without identifying herself or even saying hello. I said I was sorry it wasn't packed up yet because I thought they were only coming at 9am. She started waving her finger at me saying, "You're not supposed to leave the castle outside overnight" I told her that nobody had told me this rule and I figured that since I was paying for the rental, the thing was mine to use for 24 hours. She started repeating herself saying loudly YOU DON'T LEAVE IT OUTSIDE OVERNIGHT!! I told her that I had heard her the first time, that she didn't need to repeat herself and admonish me in my own home in front of my children. I told her that speaking English is one of my specialties and that I speak it very well and so there's no need for her to repeat herself. I then repeated that no one had told me that I'm not allowed to keep the castle outside overnight. I asked her if my words were registering with her? Did she understand the words I was saying? I'll never know. She proceeded to wrap up the castle herself in absolute silence with an angry look on her face. It was so disappointing and anti-climactic to have a beautiful birthday experience end like this in my home at 7:30am on an otherwise peaceful Sunday. To be scolded as if I am one of her employees or a teenager who didn't make curfew is unacceptable. I was left with my blood boiling. We were treated like garbage by this company. There are plenty of other companies I can use next time.
