The therapist made all sessions fun for my daughter and tailored every session to her favorite toys/interests. My daughter is not speaking yet (she's only 3, and we only worked with her from May-September), but she started making more new noises/babbles - and more importantly, she now has tools for communicating more functionally (such as signing). We just recently had to cease sessions due to financial reasons, but they will be the first company we call if we're able to start in-home speech therapy again!

She knew so much more than the teachers did about my son after only a 45 minute intake evaluation with him, (and her wonderful associate, Robin, had began doing educational therapy with him) than the teachers had figured out in almost a whole school year. Some of the school administration made us feel like it was our son's fault and his self confidence had plummeted. My twin boys received weekly half hour sessions for phonological disorder for approximately 5…read moremonths. At 4 yrs. old, they struggled with their words and it was very hard for most people to understand them. While one would react to the frustration with outbursts, the other would stop talking altogether and lose motivation to speak. My boys LOVED Denise. They both felt right at home with her. She made it fun and engaging for them. They explored play dough, marbles, race cars to name a few. She had them bring an item of interest to each session to share and discuss. The highlight was to dip into the prize box each session. They looked forward to seeing her every week. Her communication skills are great. She sent exercises for us to do at home and always gave me demonstrations of what she was covering in each session. Their preschool teachers as well as my husband and I noticed improvement by early the second month. As all children are different, it is hard to predict how quickly results will be seen. Denise was very clear about this up front and made no promises regarding the speed of their improvement. I wasn't expecting results so soon, but we very happy. After 5 months we all agreed that the boys were in a good place and decided to take a break while we sorted our insurance coverage. Denise gave me plenty of skills to keep them on track. We were thinking we'd do a few more sessions before they start kindergarten but I'm happy to report that they are doing just fine. Their vocabulary has exploded and the experience gave me the tools to recognize when they need guidance. Everyone can understand them and they are much happier and confident. Speech therapy can be expensive. I found Denise's prices to be reasonable and She also offers discounts if you buy sessions in bulk. We paid for the first 2 months out of pocket and the rest was partially covered by insurance. Denise was out of our network so we had to pay her in full upfront and then file a claim with our Insurance company for reimbursement. Dealing with the insurance company directly was both aggravating and time consuming. It took months before we were reimbursed. This was no fault of Denise's and she did her best to help us with the paperwork but it would have been really nice if she would have been in our insurance network. I'm certain we would have extended therapy longer if that had been the case. Overall, I am very pleased with the services we received from Denise. My boys are doing great now and if any further treatment becomes necessary, I will certainly go back. I highly recommend her!

I moved to Texas from England when I was nine and was bullied for my accent. I tried affecting an American accent but I ended up sounding like I was from Boston despite never even visiting there! I also had issues pronouncing my r's and ah's. I've been self conscious of my speech my whole life so, at the ripe age of 27, I decided it was finally time to correct it now that I have insurance with Blue California. Upon my first visit she did a series of tests and pointed out that I had a tongue thrust that affected my swallow. It all made sense. Because I never learned to swallow nor rest my tongue properly, it was too weak to effectively pronounce certain words. Patricia developed a routine of daily exercises to strengthen my mouth and tongue muscles. Our sessions weren't just quick check ups with homework though - she educated me on the anatomy of human speech. I've learned so much beyond just how to pronounce words. Patricia Scheklar may be the most cost efficient speech therapist in the area, but the confidence I've gained from being able to communicate effectively is priceless and I feel like I owe her so much more than what I've paid.
