Our son entered Spectrum one year ago. He had previously attended many wilderness and residential treatment programs, in hopes of helping him understand the world around him, and become socially appropriate. We were emotionally and physically drained, and Spectrum was our last hope. It was a wonderful Summer experience for him, and he appeared to be making some slow progress. His first semester in college was a struggle academically, socially, and emotionally. After returning from Winter Break, he had a very serious emotional breakdown. Robin and her staff stayed by our sons side for 7 days in the hospital, and agreed to bring this broken young man back into their program. With daily counseling and therapy and a serious medication adjustment, our son became the sweet, caring, fun loving boy that we knew and loved many years ago. He began to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. He joined a softball league and a flag football club this past Spring. His fraternity brothers from Spectrum stepped up and supported their "bro" from the beginning of his crisis to this day. Our son is now a "senior fraternity brother" spending this Summer mentoring new incoming students to Spectrum and Sigma Tau Epsilon. This Fall he will declare his major in Screen Writing. Pat and I would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere appreciation for the life changing differences Gateway has made for our Grandson, Andrew. As a result of Gateway and Spectrum, Andrew is now independent, politely addresses people with confidence, while thinking before he speaks. He takes responsibility and pride in doing his own laundry and preparing many of his meals.After attending the 10th and 11th grades at Gateway, Andrew has been accepted to complete his senior year at the International School of Western Australia. Andrew is making numerous new friends, and, yes, even with girls. Academically, Andrew is prepared and interested to move forward.Andrew has completed a detailed business plan to obtain his D.J. goals. It is pretty impressive with very good insight. When you hear about an upcoming Australian Disc Jockey named "D.J. Droid", you know that you and your staff have had a hand in the creation. He is also pursuing a career in Hospitality and is currently seeking out Universities including that curriculum.Prior to Gateway, we did not think college was a possibility for Andrew. Our son was recently diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome. He was a loner all throughout high school; porn became his friend; he associated with pot smokers; and he was not successful in any traditional post secondary program. We enlisted the help of an educational consultant, who recommended a couple of residential transition programs. When we arrived at Spectrum, not only did we feel that we had found the perfect program, but our son actually became engaged in the tour and interview, which never happens! Robin, Kelly and staff helped us understand the uniqueness of the program, and we walked away feeling hopeful. Our son entered Spectrum for Fall Semester 2014, and has slowly found a professional path, as well as true friends! We are so thrilled with this program. I have been in the education business for over 30 years and through this time I have been asked for advice and to research schools for a number of families with youngsters in need of special accommodations.
