My soon to be daughter in law went there to pick out a wedding dress. When she decided on another dress(at this store) after purchasing the first wedding dress from them, they absolutely would not accommodate her in any way. She spent money on one dress, asked if she could exchange or at the very least get a discount on the next one, and was told no. The workers were very rude to her, and even after trying to call and email the owner, she never got a response. Their only resolution was for her to buy another dress. She was going to spend way more money there buying a veil and hairpiece! But they didn't care. They were of no help. This is supposed to be a place where a bride to be can go and feel pampered and comfortable about such an important and expensive purchase. DO NOT USE THEM! Go anywhere but there!!! Every step of my experience with this dress shop was a regretful one. I'm a bridesmaid in a wedding and I needed the Bridesmaids Dress shipped to me. So of course I sent in my measurements, making sure they were very accurate, so there would be no mistake in size when I received my dress. Upon calling to make my final payment, I was charged $60 over the quote I was given, because my dress was over size 18. Apparently that is their policy. However, I am smaller than a size 18. I told the clerk this, and she argued with me telling me that my measurements would equate to a size 18 dress. So I gave in, paid the extra money, and waited a week to receive my dress. I was sent a size 26 dress. The dress was FAR too big for me, and I had to pay $60 in my town to get it altered to fit my body by someone who knew what they were doing. I honestly believe that this dress shop overcharged me for a size they knew I did Not need just to squeeze an extra $60 out of me. Unfair and unprofessional business! read more

The owner is rude. The dress selection is dreadful at best, and extremely overpriced. There jewlery selection is horrible. Just because it is the only specialty dress shop in the area, does not mean that you need to treat customers like garbage. I did not want to go into this store in the first place, and the way the owner treated me, made me regret even setting foot in the store. I would drive 100 miles to Bismarck before ever setting foot in this shop again. read more

I've never been a fan of dress shopping. Ever. But I went to special occasions and I was there for two hours. And it was great. I looked at so many dresses and tried them on and the ladies were so helpful and kind. 10/10 would recommend for all your prom shopping needs read more

Special Occasions completely forgot about my appointment. To start this off, let me say, that I realize things happen... it is the day after Christmas, and sometimes people just forget! That being said... I am in town only for this Christmas break and scheduled an alterations appointment for both my daughter and myself. When we came in for our appointment, Rosie looked confused and checked the books... when she saw that we did indeed have an appointment, she called her seamstress. While she was on the phone she asked me if we were on a time crunch. We told her that we were only in town for today. She then told us that her seamstress was "stranded" and could be there within an hour... When I looked annoyed she said, "well is that ok?" I told her that it had to be. Fast forward an hour when we came back, I asked Rosie if we would be getting a discount on our alterations. She gave a half smile and asked, "For what?" ... I proceeded to tell her that it was a big inconvenience for me to come to the store twice in one day and that I had to have someone watch my baby while I was doing this both times. She told me, "No, I don't think so." It is very clear to me that she does not care about good customer service. It would not have had to be a big discount. She completely forgot about our appointment. I told Rosie that we would take our dresses elsewhere to be altered and our interactions are done. I will not be returning to this store. read more

Planning one of the biggest days of your life is supposed to be a fun and exciting experience. This business isn't worthy of the one star review I had to give in order to post it... From the first time I went in to Special Occasions to set up rentals for my wedding it was a negative experience, and I wish I would have explored other options and gone with someone else months ago. My first negative experience was when I was setting up my wedding party. I asked Rosie what the cost of alterations on a wedding dress would run? She asked me if I purchased the dress there, and when I told her no, she informed me "she couldn't guarantee my dress would be done in time if I didn't purchase it there" never even quoted me prices..My wedding was 9 months away. I have several years of experience in the tuxedo rental business, and have never seen a company operate at such an unprofessional level. Rosie and I never had the best dialogue, because I had a vision in my head and knew what I wanted, she obviously didn't agree and felt it was appropriate to rudely inform me of what I should and shouldn't do for my wedding..fast forward a few months to bringing my fiancé and son in to be measured. When we arrived, we were informed that Rosie had an emergency and would be out for a few days, and she was the ONLY one who could deal with tuxedos. My child was going out of town and wouldn't be back until we were less than 30 days away from our big day. I asked if I could just take his measurements so that we could get them in the system prior to their cut off. The associate became flustered and tried to take measurements for me. I questioned the way she had taken the arm measurements, because I had never seen them done the way that she was doing it. She informed me "that is the way Rosie does it, and I don't want to get yelled at". I explained that Rosie was more than welcome to contact me and explain if this was accurate or not. When I got home, I looked on the Jim's Formal Wear website to see how they measure for their product, and found that the way it was being done in the store was incorrect. The next time I went in to the store, I asked Rosie if there was a reason that she measured with the arm bent, if she had issues with shirts coming in with sleeves that were too short? She snapped back at me stating she had 17 years of experience in the industry, thats how she was trained to do it, and she has NEVER had any issues with shirts coming in the wrong size. I explained that I had several people who had been measured out of state, and if I needed to change their measurements to reflect her method, I would but wanted to clarify. She rudely responded to me "you can do what ever you want" and offered me no explanation or recommendation on what i needed to do for the outside measurements.I went back in a week or so later to make adjustments to vest styles that I had selected for the wedding. I was very specific with my desires, and wanted a vest that was the same color on the front and back (we wouldn't have a jacket to cover the back of the vest) rather than just black or white as formal vests typically come. I asked her if the vest style that I was interested in came with the same color back as front, and her response was "to my knowledge". I was not confident with her response, so took it upon myself to contact Jim's Formal Wear corporate to ensure I was provided with accurate information. I was not! I went back in to the store to change back all of the styles to the original selections, and informed her of what corporate had told me. Four days later, and 29 days until my wedding, Rosie contacted my fiancé and told him that Special Occasions would not be providing services for my wedding, due to issues she had with me as well as a negative review that she had received. She explained that she was a small locally owned company, and could not have negative reviews reflecting on her. I again contacted JFW corporate to find out what options I had to now get 11 rentals less than a month away from my wedding. They found another retailer that I could rent through, but it would be a little further out of the way. Only problem was, I had 7 guys who went in to be measured in her location, so of course, didn't have the measurements. Corporate told me they would contact her and try to get her to release the information. After 3 days of trying to get in touch with her, she REFUSED to provide the measurements to corporate for me to get my rentals elsewhere. I will now have to re-measure majority of my wedding party and put in a new order with a different retailer with LESS than a month to my wedding. If you are bride to be, go somewhere that will take your big day as serious as you do, so that you don't experience the same thing I am going through. Your day is special, and Rosie will make you feel anything but that. read more

My son rented a tux for his Prom which was April 11, Him myself and my husband were told to come back in the Monday before the prom to pick the tux up, He arrived on Monday and was told that his tux was not ready and to come back later in the week to pick it up. My son and Husband went back on Friday to pick up the tux and before they arrived I called to ask the shop owner if we could get some kind of compensation for the tux not being ready. She exclaimed "NO" and would not let me finish a sentence or thought without her interjecting and being Rude, I got rude with her on the phone too at that time, needless to say we did not get any compensation, When my husband and son arrived and paid for the other half off the tux she demanded that they sign a document saying that my son would take another day off of school and return the tux by 2, (my son doesn't get out of school until after 3) my husband refused and left, THIS shop owner harassed my husband by calling his place of employment saying that he was drunk if her shop smelling of alcohol and sped out of her parking lot doing donuts. His place of employment ran a breath test and pulled the GPS and discovered that he was NOT speeding or drunk. This did not stop the shop owner, she called multiple times on Monday as well. Last night I got on the store FB page and left a review that stated "Rudest shop owner ever" I heard from her this morning stating that I needed to remove that review or she was going to take legal action because I was bullying her. I DO NOT recommend this tux/bridal/prom dress shop at all! if you can travel to Bismark or elsewhere then it needs to be done. horrible service all the way around!! read more
