Tru by Hilton Phoenix Glendale Westgate

(44 reviews)

A Disquisition on Hospitality at Tru by Hilton Phoenix Glendale Westgate: Or, How One Man's Virtue…read moreRedeems the Mundane By Capt. 619, Peripatetic Scholar of Transient Domiciles and Human Excellence Let us first dispense with the axiomatic: the modern hotel, in its essence, is an exercise in utilitarian homogeneity. A room, as Kant might posit, is a synthetic a priori--a space defined not by its inherent qualities, but by its function. Tru by Hilton Phoenix Glendale Westgate adheres to this universal truth. Its chambers are serviceable, its amenities competent, its aesthetic an echo of the Platonic "Form of the Mid-Tier Lodging." On the scale of Aristotelian potentiality, it achieves a hexad (6/10)--a respectable, if unremarkable, actualization of shelter. Yet! Here lies the rub: hospitality, as Seneca observed, is not a static condition but a dynamic virtue. And in this locus, virtue found its avatar in Richard, a steward of such magnanimity that he transmuted leaden routine into golden experience. I. The Telos of Service: Richard as the Unmoved Mover Each dawn, as Helios' chariot crested the Arizona horizon, Richard greeted guests with a Socratic inquiry: "What may I do to render your day excellent?" Not a hollow pleasantry, but a dialectic--an invitation to co-create eudaimonia. His attentions were neither obsequious nor perfunctory, but precise as Aquinas' Five Ways. Forgotten toothpaste materialized; coffee preferences were memorized with the rigor of a Benedictine scribe; local dining recommendations bore the insight of a seasoned flâneur. In him, the hotel's potential 6 became an actualized 10. II. The Paradox of Hospitality: Substance vs. Accident Let us parse the Categories. The hotel's substance (rooms, linens, waffle irons) belongs to the genus "Adequate." But its accidents--the staff, the ethos--are where essence resides. Richard, like Descartes' genius malignus in reverse, dissolved skepticism with each act of grace. A traveler who, like myself, dwells 200 nights yearly in interchangeable abodes learns this: marble foyers fade; human warmth endures. III. The Ethical Imperative To proprietors of such establishments, heed Aristotle: "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit." Richard's excellence is habitual, his ethos contagious. He is the phronimos of hospitality, embodying practical wisdom where others merely follow script. Conclusion: A Summa of Transient Flourishing Tru by Hilton is, in itself, a cipher. But within its walls operates a man who elevates the prosaic to the profound. To stay here is to witness a Thomistic proof: Existence precedes essence. The hotel exists; Richard gives it essence. Verdict: 6/10 (sine Richard); 10/10 (cum Richard). Fellow wayfarers--seek him. For in a desert of mediocrity, he is the oasis. "Non nobis solum nati sumus." --Capt. 619, Emeritus Fellow of the Collegium Hospitium et Peregrinationis

This is a good conference hotel…read more I stayed here for a few days for a conference. Jackie at the front desk was an absolute gem! I was able to get early check in, which was much needed after an early flight with a time zone difference. I found the room to be very clean with a good view. Housekeeping was fantastic and so kind and helpful. I felt very comfortable at this hotel. The meeting rooms were spacious. All the food served was good during the event. The elevators have fun signs in them, which I found to be a pleasant touch..

They kindly allowed us to check in early and had our rooms ready. At the time of check in they were promoting a game which resulted in my friend receiving a room upgrade to a suite!!!!! It was a total of 5 with two rooms that comfortable held all of us. The customer service was pleasant, the grounds were clean, and they had outdoor activities (corn hole and table tennis) that we enjoyed. Cannot go to Arizona and not dip in someone's pool. They had an indoor lap pool and an outdoor pool both were clean. They also had a really nice gym. The hotel is large enough to accommodate conferences as even church services from what we witnessed. The hotel was perfectly located next to the Outlets and eateries. They also had Top Golf not far from the location and Dave & Busters! It was my first time staying at this hotel and it definitely will not be my last.

They are remodeling the rooms right now, and I was fortunate enough to get one of the newly remodeled suites on the top floor. It still smelled like fresh paint.(which I didn't mind.) and was immaculate. If you get a room on the fourth floor, the ceiling is 15 to 20 feet high, which makes the room feel much larger than it is. There are two TVs and a sofa pullout bed if you need it. Microwave, mini fridge, coffee maker all are nice amenities to have. In the morning, they have a complimentary buffet style breakfast with bacon eggs, waffles, various breads, which was very nice. The price can't be beat for this nice of a hotel. I will definitely stay here again if I'm in the area.

In the meantime, we ended up having to make reservations again. Luckily, they had availability, and the last-minute rates were very reasonable. We stayed in room 206 which was a 2-Queen bed suite. It was spacious, comfy, and clean. There were two TVs, a pullout sofa bed, a microwave, mini fridge, and coffee maker. There's a complimentary breakfast buffet which many online reviews raved about, but honestly it was only "okay", not as nice as other hotel chains we frequent. There is also an outdoor pool and gym/exercise room, but we didn't try either of those. Overall, it was a decent place, especially for the price, and I would consider staying here again when traveling to the area.

They have a little "store" where you can buy drinks, TV dinners and other snack items. There is a small fridge, and a microwave in each room!! This hotel does offer free parking and it is in walking distance to the stadium. But you can also catch an Uber/ Lyft to the stadium. The hotel was decked out in Halloween decor and also Chicago Bears and Arizona Cardinal flags. They also offer some type of free breakfast in the morning . I don't know if it's continental or what. When I'm on vaca mode my mission is to sleep in. Back to the hotel the rooms are quite nice and a suite. They have everything that you would want but not a stove. But then again who wants to cook on a vaca. They have a nice sized refrigerator and microwave. They also have a coffee maker. The bed was comfy but the pillows were quite small. They also have a couch which I believe can be a bed as well. The bathroom is full sized and they also have full size shower gel and shampoo. You may want to bring your own hand soap because they only have those tiny bars . Nearby and right where the stadium is the Westgate Entertainment District. It's outdoors and a total vibe. There are plenty of restaurants, and even a cigar lounge. When we were there they actually had an outdoor ice skating rink. There is also an outlet around 10 minutes away. I only passed it and it looked like it was an outlet. All in all it was a great experience. If I ever visit Arizona again I would definitely stay here again.

One of the standout features for me is the beds, which I've consistently found to be very comfortable during my stays. The staff has always been friendly, welcoming, and helpful, making check-in and any requests easy to handle. Keep in mind that you'll need a parking permit, so it's best to stop at the main entrance first to pick one up. After that, I recommend parking behind the hotel, where there's significantly more parking available and convenient access to the building. If you're considering an IHG property, this is one of the better Holiday Inns I've stayed at. There's also an on-site restaurant that's isn't half bad making it a great option if you'd rather relax at the hotel instead of heading out for a meal. Unfortunately, they do not offer free shuttle service like the Springhill Suites in Downtown Denver that we had just left prior to staying here. The amenities at the hotel are all pretty good. Nice heated outdoor pool/hot tub with an adjacent fire pit. The fitness center is ok. The cardio machines are a little dated and they have no weight machines, just free weights. They do offer a complimentary breakfast daily which was good. Typical setup with pastries, fruit, pans of eggs and a meat serving of some type but they did have fresh waffle making machines that were a hit. The rooms were spacious and well laid out. Nice kitchen area/living room that is separated from the bedroom area by a large enough wall that one doesn't intrude on the other. The bathroom has the common hotel setup where the toilet/shower are separate from the sink area which makes it easier for multiple people to get ready at the same time. Just wish they would have had installed shampoo/conditioner/soap dispensers in the shower, like many hotels now do considering the TSA travel restrictions, instead of providing tiny bottles of products. All of the staff members we encountered during our stay were very helpful and a pleasure to deal with. Our group had a late afternoon shuttle pickup and the hotel was nice enough to allow our entire group to check out late so we could comfortably use their entire property throughout the day.
