I have shopped in Spar Lochwinnoch for almost 40 years. Always enjoy the chat with the staff, many of whom I know well. Until today that is when I had an altercation with a lady (the one with the black hair and the designation LADY being questionable) whom I assume is the new Manageress as she has not been long in the shop.
I was paying in coins at the Post Office counter, something I do on a regular basis, when she poked her nose in and said that unless the coins were in the amounts designated on the bags they should not be accepted. I informed her that I had never encountered this with any of the staff and I suggested that a notice of policy should be displayed at the counter. I was on the point of walking out with my money in my pocket however the male staff member I was dealing with carried on with my transaction. She poked her nose in again and tallied up my pay-in as she obviously does not trust her staff to do so themselves. Other members of staff on duty at the time noticeably displayed their embarrassment at her behaviour.
I have some words of advice for her. Firstly try to smile occasionally, something I have never seen since she appeared on the scene. Treat your customers with the dignity and respect which they afford you. Don't make up rules and regulations which your staff are not aware of as you go along. Remember that your customers pay your wages. Local businesses are constantly crying out for support to remain viable. Little wonder that people go elsewhere if they encounter people with your attitude.
The next time I see you in the shop I may just exercise that prerogative and walk out. read more
