Our son was only supposed to go there for 1 year but we loved it so much and it was SO good for him, that we delayed him starting kindergarten by a year. In total, he spent 2 yrs there. He started knowing no Spanish (my husband and I don't speak Spanish) and he ended with a really solid understanding of the language. So much so, that when we went to Spain this summer, locals were impressed with his accent and his ability to speak the language. We actually had no particular interest in him learning a Language, but we really wanted to get him into a Montessori school. This school was amazing for his confidence. He started off as a shy, difficult boy who hated his previous preschool. He blossomed beyond our expectations there. He was more than ready (& not only willing, but excited) to go to kindergarten. He loved his time at Maracas. The staff are amazing and caring and it is such a sweet school that I will always hold very dear. I cannot recommend Maracas Montessori enough. Any child that goes there is a very lucky child.

We had my infant daughter with primary beginnings for…read more3 months, throughout the time I don't think there were two weeks straight where they didn't request/require us to pick her up for signs of "illness", every time we would go to the doctor only to find out nothing was wrong. While I normally appreciate a cautious outlook on health, I can't quite shake the feeling that they knew that I was able to pick my daughter up so we were the first call when for whatever reason they needed children to go home early. I will say I enjoyed my daughter's teachers, they were always pleasant. Because of the teachers we were initially willing to overlook a few bumps in the road by making our position and what we expect clear. However, the business practices of the facility remained untenable. Even up to the point where we gave our notice, they cancelled the last week on us. If you plan on taking your child here, either have a really great PTO policy with your job, or keep another sitter on retainer. You will not be able to reliably take your child there and attend to your job.

The director of Alliance Francaise, Claire, is also not particularly welcoming and can be condescending as well. I strongly suggest not taking classes at AF Raleigh. There are plenty of Alliance Francaise chapters in different states that offer a wide range of classes for different levels with highly proficient and experienced instructors. These chapters offer both grammar classes and conversation/thematic ones as well. You can find a variety of courses online with the different Alliance Francaise chapters.

All four of our children have attended and now only our youngest child is left as the older siblings have moved on to elementary school! So only 2 more years left of GSLP! Bittersweet! As a newer mother when I was researching all the local preschools I was directed to GSLP by a dear friend whom I admired. I visited them all, asked lots of questions and by far, GSLP was the most prepared, most cost efficient and most qualified. I personally really like the schedule and the times the preschool runs. 9:30am is after the early morning rush so it is the PERFECT starting time. And the fact that the children get to have lunch there-what a blessing! So many other preschools end around lunchtime-and they cost the same if not more for having children there for less hours! (Why? Hmmmm...I dunno!) 1:20pm is a great endidng time because it is after lunch so you don't have to deal with the hurry to get the kids fed right after picking them up, yet it is still before afternoon quiet times (which all younger children, in my humble opinion, should have. Saves mom from going insane and gives them some time to themselves. THAT in and of itself can be talked about for hours....Ok, I digress....) All of the teachers are certified and have extensive backgrounds in teaching. Their curriculum is superb and all of our children have fond memories of GSLP. The parents are very involved and frankly, as each year passes the school improves even when I think it can't improve any more! The Director, Deanna Klimek, is very hands on. Her staff responds well with her and you can tell they all really enjoy working together. Their biggest love, and rightfully so-is the children! Oh how they all love those precious children! We have never doubted our decision to send our children to Good Shepherd. I encourage every parent who is wondering where to send his/her children-to just register those little one/s!
