I decided to commit to learning the Spanish language back during quarantine and dedicated almost 4-6 hours a day studying. Almost a year later, I found that between mobile applications and dozens of hours of telenovelas with terrible soap opera theme music (hahaha, no seriously), I still couldn't even have a basic conversation in the language. I have only been with Spanish Blackbelt for one term and my ability to understand and speak the language in conversation has grown exponentially. This program is very technical and intentional. The entire class is taught in Spanish and all questions are encouraged to be spoken in Spanish as well. I am not where I want to be in my Spanish goals yet, but I definitely rate Spanish BlackBelt 5 stars and highly recommend. I just completed the 2nd level of Conversational Spanish with Spanish Blackbelt. The class size is small making for good one-on-one time with the tutor. The online curriculum is thorough and explains concepts well. My tutor is very patient and I have noticed my own improvements in comprehension of specific concepts as well as increased vocabulary knowledge. The course I took met once a week for 2 hours and each week there were 2 chapters worth of homework. The more effort you put into the homework, the faster you'll improve, of course. If you're looking to increase your Spanish skills but have a full-time life, SBB is a really flexible way to do it. read more

I have had a great experience with Spanish Blackbelt! My instructor is Paula and she is spectacular! She is patient and really takes the time needed with her students. I love going to class especially bc of Paula. I am now entering Level 3 and just came back from Cuba. I'm having an excellent experience with Spanish Blackbelt. I started at the beginning of the year on Duolingo everyday, I was gaining a good level of vocabulary but realized I would never open my mouth to speak it. My sessions with Claudia are giving me great results. The curriculum is structured so well, even the seemingly basic lessons are filled with information and lots of speaking. Everything comes together: pronunciation, phrasing, idiom, vocabulary. I will definitely continue. Claudia is fantastic, she manages to stick to the course and follow all my question detours along the way, always completing the lesson thoroughly. Although I originally had signed up for group class, I ended up taking White belt as private classes instead. I would very much recommend this to anyone starting out; I think the first levels will have the greatest variety of students and learners, and this is when you really need the personal attention and to move at your own pace. I am planning to wait until Orange level to go to a group class, when I know that all of the group members will be pretty serious and conversant. Another recommendation: do the homework. You get out what you put in for this class, don't waste it! Anyone who decides to sign up with Spanish Blackbelt, congratulations, you're going to learn alot. read more

Spanish Blackbelt is an excellent language school. The teachers/tutors are talented native speakers. The structure and curriculum is the best I've had (and I've attended classes at the New School, Instituto Cervantes, La Reina Sofia, etc.). My teacher, Maria Elena, makes each session delightful, with her sunny personality, patience and experience. My classes are in Manhattan, but I see they are in several locations.
