He started w the simulator training which is Microsoft program that gives one the feel of the controls. Carson was detailed on every aspect of the simulator explaining controls indeptly & patiently. Prior to takeoff, he detailed what he was checking & why, I felt my father was in good hands w him when they jumped into a the Diamond Eclipse plane.The training is 45 minutes, they have comfortable leather chairs, dvd player,kitchen & other amenities (blazing Wifi) if your waiting for flight to land. I'm really grateful to be partnered up with my CFI Mike Cahill who was very helpful, professional, patient with me. Anytime I needed help or had a question, he was there for me whether he was working or on his day off. Personally, I felt like he went the extra mile for me to ensure I was successful passing my checkride and is a great representation of the excellence this flight school has to offer. All the staff I encountered with at this flight school were always friendly and helpful. The folks at dispatch are always welcoming, the other CFI's who helped me out with stagechecks and mocks were very helpful, and even the mechanics from Heck Air were friendly and helpful. Not once did I ever have any scheduling conflicts or cancellations. It helped that the school has a big fleet of aircraft that were always well maintained. Throughout my training, not once was I under the impression that this flight school, nor their staff were just trying to make a quick buck. They truly care about all their students and want to ensure they have all the tools necessary to be safe and successful pilots/renters. I was able to easily maintain my college courses at Riddle while flying with Epic, so flexibility is possible. From dispatch and maintenance staff to Instructors and Team Leaders, every Epic employee exceeded my expectations in terms of a family friendly learning environment. The C-172S aircraft were all in excellent condition, equipped with G1000. The Epic ramp area is well maintained along with KEVB in its entirety, and you simply can't beat its beautiful location in terms of its Class D airspace. However, as a student veteran, I would have liked to see Epic Flight Academy accept VA benefits to allow student veterans to gain assistance in finishing the remaining flight ratings at Epic, but they do not at the moment. Overall, I would highly recommend Epic Flight Academy for obtaining your Private Pilot Certificate, or any other certificate or rating you wish to pursue.

Dont get me started on the housing department either. The same people that own epic own the apartments they use for student housing, one half is non students and the other half are students. The non students (for a two bedroom apartment NOT beachside and NOT in a good spot) pay 1600$ a month, so why is it that the students pay 3200$ a month for the exact same apartment split 4 ways. They cram 4 people in a 2 bedroom apartment and charge the students double. It doesn't take a genius to notice that this is a cash grab/scam. Fuck this place and fuck getting scammed. All the good reviews are for the flight school, for the pilots, anyone can fly a plane but how many people can fix them? Take care of your students and stop scamming them.

This is a great area to launch for SUP (stand up paddleboard) or kayaks. There is a small parking…read morelot that will fit about 20 cars in the launch area. A company called Calypso Kayaking thar rents canoes out of here. The launch area can be a little difficult if you're not super agile or if your paddle board is heavy - the best way I can describe it is it's a sloped staircase made of wood planks and dirt (I think it was about 5-6 steps if I remember correctly). It wasn't difficult going down, however, I was using my friend's Bote SUP, which is pretty heavy and it was difficult for me to carry it up the steps especially after a difficult and physical paddle with windy conditions. If I was using a lighter board I don't think it would've have been too difficult for me. This park also has nice a cute little playground and clean restrooms that are open year round. There is a covered picnic area with grills. And the parking lot at both the launch area and near restrooms are paved. We were there at low tide and the water was very shallow in some areas - so shallow that we had to get off our SUPs at one point and pull them through the water a few feet so we didn't damage our fins. It was great having the shallow waters because we saw LOTS of stingrays, horseshoe crabs and fish! Also lots of water birds throughout our paddle! One of the islands that we stopped at had a nice beach area and beautiful dead tree that made for great photo ops! All in all, this is a great location to launch for SUP and kayak. We will definitely go back and hopefully see dolphins and/or manatees the next time!
