I came here by recommendation, wish I never took that recommendation after my visit. I came in for a fill and pedicure, Karen did my fill not sure who did my pedicure but this review isn't about my pedicure. She did a horrible job on my nails, wasted my money and I'm so upset if I could give them no stars I would. My nails were misshaped, thinned and I had to ask her a few times to take the gel color I had completely off because I wanted a lighter color this time around and my pervious color was dark. Within a day of leaving the shop, I broke two nails because they were so thinned. I went back to have them fixed and because Karen was not in the shop they acted as if they did not want to fix the service that was provided at their shop. They were rude and had the nerve to make a comment about me under my breath to another customer. The customer service provided at this place is and was disappointing. I ended up walking across the street to Cosmo Nail to have my nails fixed and immediately you can see the difference in quality to low quality. Fast forward to a week later, I'm now missing three more nails because the tips broke and I have a couple more cracking. I will NOT be returning to this place based off of their customer service alone and unwillingness to fix a service I had done inside of their establishment. read more

I have always known Kim carries high-quality products (Biologique Recherche, Yonka, MBR) but only recently came to learn what a skin guru she truly is. She not only has extensive experience and expertise, she also travels regularly to continue her education with the product lines she carries. She really knows her stuff and understands the skin, you will leave glowing and feeling pampered! Given she's not in a fancy spa, her prices are very reasonable. She will also work with you to find a simple & effective skin routine for ongoing maintenance without pushing products. I enjoy Sarah's and Christines work quite a bit! My toenails have never looked better. I always enjoy a leg massage and chair massage while my nails dry. The spa is spotlessly clean, the background music is just right, and everyone is absolutely friendly and welcoming to both women and men. Didn't like the fact that they do your face waxes right by the front window (no privacy) and next to the pedicure seats where someone getting a pedicure is watching over you. My coworkers and I tried out a new spa as we were in Burlingame for the day, when we first walked in we thought it was super cute. The ambience of the area is very relaxing and it's nice to have all the light from outside. Also the ladies were all very hospitable and sweet learning our names right away which I thought was nice. However that's all I liked about the place. I said I might not have time for a manicure so instead she came to do my nails while I was getting my feet done which I didn't find very relaxing, but she was so insistent that I didn't know how to say no. I also don't think she added a topcoat because they chipped within three hours and my cuticles didn't look great either, she didn't push them back enough and she didn't cut off the excess. Also I've grown used to always getting some sort of a little leg massage with every pedicure, at Spa Elysee you need to pay $10 extra for 10 minutes and it wasn't even a good massage. At the end when my nails were still drying a girl came in for her appointment and they rushed us out of the chairs which messed up my big toe. Which really makes me upset especially because I I asked her if she wanted to put my flip-flops on before painting my nails and she said no they'll be dry by the time you get up. When I took the picture of my big toe that had gotten messed up by my flip-flop I also noticed that the second toe over wasn't painted all the way. Overall I think we were rushed way too much and I paid $60 which I would've only paid 30 at my normal place with a massage included. I've been going to this place off and on for about 10 years now. I was just there on Saturday 12/7/19. I used to go in there and feel relaxed and taken care of but the last few times I've been in there I've left feeling irritated. The only people there that are worth your time and money are the ladies that do your pedicures (Jessica is the best). The last few times I've gone there this lady that's been doing my manicures, I cannot stand. She is rough and has dug too deep/cut my fingers every single time, and doesn't apologize. She just acts like she didn't do anything. She's always in a rush and does a crappy job. She also doesn't take the time to properly clean my cuticles, isn't that part of what I'm paying for? I don't know her name because she doesn't wear a name tag but she's a little short and wears glasses. She is what makes me not want to go back there anymore. I can also tell she doesn't want to be there and is just talking to her coworkers the entire time she's working on my nails. Also, one of my nails had the gel polish coming off the next day. It's sad because its close to home and I used to enjoy going there since they are also reasonably priced. But i'll probably be looking to go somewhere else. read more

Just walked out of a house of horrors that could have been the beginning of an M Night Shylamalam movie. I went here because it's 4 stars on Yelp, even though I had concerns about the spotty manicure reviews. But I was desperate for a facial and this was the only place that had availability You know when you walk into a B&B and there's something off with the air? Like something Edgar Allen Poe-like happened here a few decades ago? That is this salon. Here's the play by play: - I walk in and Ms Kim greets me. She immediately drills me on my beauty regime. Okay, fine so far. - I walk into the spa room. Chipped paint and a bit dusty, but it's okay. Fine so far. - Ms Kim begins the treatment and the torture begins. For the next 15 minutes I am quizzed, drilled, and berated. Let me just put this or there that I am Asian and I have never been lectured so much in my life. - Sample dialogue: Her: "Do you use towels to wash your face?" Me: "No" Her: "Do you wash your face with hot water?" Me: "Yes" Her: "You are ruining your face with hot water!!! You must only wash with cold water!! Hot water is opening up your pores and making them larger!! And ruining the capillaries!!" Her: "Do you drink milk?" Me: "No" Her: "What about coffee?" Me: "a little bit" Her: throws her fingers wildly in the air and points her fingers at me: "See, even a drop of dairy will make your skin look bad. No cheese, no milk. You listening?" This woman talked NONSTOP for 15 minutes. She kept insisting "I am trying to teach you, you have to learn." Generally, when I pay $95 for a facial, I don't want someone to lecture me. I want a dermatological sound facial to unclogs my pores and removes whiteheads. At the end, a mask that soothes my skin. That's all. Instead, I felt like I was in a school lecture where she was going to hit me with a pencil for not getting her answers right. I have never walked out of any service before. I have never sent food back to a chef. After 15 minutes of her lecturing me, I had enough. I asked to be released from her chambers. So. I agree it's a cute spa and the ladies are nice. There is only 1 price for the pedicure. So there is no real callus treatment, hot stones, or any real pedicure choices. It's a $28 pedicure, but you also get what you pay for. If your legs ache, if you want a good leg massage or hot stones... don't go here. If you want a good polish, don't go here. I had to tell the Sara to paint the entire nail...why do they miss the sides. Why change the shape when there's already a shape... It's boring to say the least. Not impressed. The ladies at Kim's are so sweet! They really go the extra mile to make sure you have a relaxing experience. Stopped in a few weeks ago for a quick pedicure. Was seated right away and handed a variety of magazines. Props to having US Weekly + People :) Love getting caught up on my celebrity gossip! Prices are reasonable and they take debit/credit cards, I think the standard pedicure is about $25. Seems to be the going rate in the South Bay + Peninsula. Minus one star since my right big toe was chipped within just a few days. Bummer! And since the polish is jade green, it's somewhat noticeable. And I don't necessarily have the time to drop by and get my one toe re-done. Overall, a lovely spa experience. I woke up this Sunday morning (Aug 6) to go to my regular nail salon which is Rainbow Nails. They were closed so I strolled across the street to Kims Perfect Skin and I will NEVER go back to Rainbow Nail Salon again. The lady who did my nails was Karen. She was so nice to talk to and friendly. It was nice to have a conversation with my nail lady who I could understand clearly. No offense to anyone but I enjoyed it. I got Shelac which Ive never gotten before and it took about 20 minutes. I have been going to Kim for the past three years for routine eyebrow maintenance and couldn't have been more pleased. Unfortunately, I began to develop a strange early 20's acne so I went to my dermatologist. My dermatologist prescribed Tazorac, a topical cream that basically dries out your skin. My face began to peel and was breaking out more than ever. I coincidently had an appointment with Kim later that week and she recommended a clarifying facial. I have to admit, I was a little skeptical about the results but I made an appointment anyway. After my facial, I regained much of my lost confidence because of my acne. I came here to get some waxing done before a family vacation (where we are having professional photos taken). The woman literally just ripped a portion of my lower lip skin off when she was waxing. It started bleeding immediately and she gave me a makeup remover pad to stop the bleeding and tried to have me put vaseline on it. I left mid-appointment. Anyone who is that careless with wax should not have a license. Not only does my skinned lip hurt (bleeding has finally stopped) but I will no doubt have an unsightly scab in our family photos. This is a great place. I've been going to Kim's for waxing services for more than year now and I've had nothing but positive experiences. . I mean let's face it, having someone you don't know put hot wax on your lady parts is not a fun thing. I'll let just about anyone paint my toenails but I'm a bit selective about where I'll have a bikini wax. If you are at all skittish about getting a bikini wax this is the place to go. Jessica is great, ask for her. They have good hygiene practices from my observations - fresh paper on the table, new utensils and cloth for each person. You are taken to a private room and Jessica is professional about the fact that you're naked and she is very friendly and personable. She has always remembered my name since the first time. Oh my god, I don't know why there isn't a decent nail salon in the peninsula. I came in here with such high hopes because of all the good reviews. My massage that I paid $10 extra for was cut short (she probably didn't know I was paying attention to the time) and my nail polish came out so UNEVEN! First of all, I hate when they say they use shellac when they use some knock off version which is probably why the paint it so bad. Second, she knows the paint job was uneven and did nothing about it because they were closing in 10 minutes and probably just wanted to go home. I'm never coming back here again. So I've been coming here pretty routinely since I moved to Burlingame and have had good experiences until today. I usually see Karen but today I had someone else. Karen has been great. The new gal had the water running super hot and it burned my right foot enough that I can't put my foot in the water. Let's see if my skin calms itself down by the end of my service. I've asked her to leave the burned area alone but she just keeps forgetting and rubbing the spot! I think this all happened because they seem to be having a busy day...which I can empathize with...just wish I didn't get burned for it. So disappointed. Came in today for my very first bikini wax and was attended by Jessica. I thought that because I let her know that it was my very first bikini wax that she would be gentle and would make me feel comfortable. But really I felt ignored and rushed when there was just one customer besides me. Told her to give me just a second before she could continue waxing and all she would do was move my hand away and do whatever. I rarely write reviews but I had such a horrible Mani that I felt compelled to write something, as I will never come back to spa elysse after today's experience. My manicurist would not tell me her name and Kim the owner was not available so I am not sure what technician she was. I had a small cut on one of my fingers and I asked repeatedly to be gentle with that finger and the alcohol and she said okay, and completely disregarded what I politley asked everytime she worked on my right hand. It was painful and I said something 7 times. She rushed the nail clean up (despite me being only one in salon) doing a medicore job at best. Then when it came to polish she decided to start painting my nails a complete opposite color than what I picked. I again politely asked that is not what I picked and she got agitatef and said she couldn't find the color and this was close. I picked out a deep burgandy and she was painting them candy apple red--- not remotely close. I asked why did she not just tell me and let me pick another color, which I then did but it was just so rude. Then for the paint job she didn't bother to clean the edges or around where extra paint was on my skin and when I asked she said no it will wash off. Umm washed my hands 5x now still there. I'm sorry but this was the worst manicure I've ever gotten. The lady (Jessica) was nice enough but she paid absolutely no attention to detail, or just didn't care. See my photos. My nails were left with rough edges, uneven polish, and she painted over the rough leftover cuticles left at the base of my nails after they were trimmed. A small piece of lint got into the polish on my index finger while she was painting and when I pointed it out to her she wiped off the wet polish with a paper towel, and then immediately started painting over it again WITHOUT replacing the base coat. She didn't seal the tips of my nails with polish. She painted all the way over the edges of my nails, over my skin too. The whole job was just rushed (took about 15 min total) and beyond sloppy. Even a novice such as myself could do much better than what she did. Very disappointed, but maybe that's what you get for a $15 manicure here ($20 with tip). Other ladies seem to love this place and have a totally different experience, I saw several women come in and get greeted by name. I am very puzzled. read more

The lash tinting here is excellent, even if stingy, but only if done by Kim. I had it done twice by two others here and the first did not last, while the second was incomplete. They used mini rotary sanders for smoothing during pedicures, and they did a very quick and seemingly careless job with them. I ended up using a pumice stone later at home to finish the job correctly. For me, the smoothing part is the most important aspect of a pedicure, given that I typically wear flip-flops. The polish job was done well. Customer service, greeting, remembering names, making sure you're comfortable, etc. are all taken care of here very nicely, and if you aren't satisfied with something, Kim is very quick to fix things and/or not charge for the service. Overall, I'll be back for lash tinting by Kim when I know I'll be swimming often, but I'll be finding a new place for having nails done with friends. read more

I normally try a place three times before reviewing, but I know I will not return so I decided to review. I really wanted to like this place, the work is average but the ladies are so nice. First time I went I had a pedi and gel mani done. It wasn't stellar, but it wasn't terrible. Small selection of polishes, but the colors were pretty and seasonal. They do clip the sides of your nails which isn't best practice, but it was too lat for me to correct. Gel manicure was done timely and no machine was used. They do try to use a machine on your feet and I as able to stop them before they started. Today, was a different story. They did up sell me to an additional 10 minute massage during the pedicure. It was not worth the $10 and that was not communicated in advance, but that was not the deal breaker for me. They completed a manicure portion and then wait until the pedicure is done to start the gel polish. Normally no big deal, the technician waited a bit for me but was soon directed to begin someone else's pedicure. I waited and waited a bit longer and then decided I should leave. I understand that may sound harsh, but it made me feel that I was expected to wait until the new client was completed - with so many nail spas in the area I was supposed. The pedicure was subpar today and polish is extended beyond the nails and was not cleaned. In short, I'm sadly disappointed. I guess I'll be looking for the right shop for me. Not only does she travel all over the world to keep herself educated in the field (she always has some killer stories to share!), but she also goes above and beyond to teach me how to take better care of my skin. After years of trying everything and anything to get perfect skin, Kim helped me find a really simple and effective skin routine (Biologique Recherche). It was a complete game changer... my skin looks so healthy and I wear minimal make up. I also have to mention she makes a Brazilian virtually painless. She is a PRO. Enough said. Bikini wax was ....just very very awkward, and they don't use hard wax, which makes the process more painful, long and result isn't good enough. Very nice and clean mani pedi. Jessica and karen were awesome, they take the time to ask you your name and tell you theirs in a very clear voice which I appreciate. Yes their colors are a little lacking but they use a really great shiny top coat which I've never seen another salon use. Both foot and arm massage were relaxing and appropriately pressured. Everything feels Clean and looks a lot nicer than a lot of the other spas in the area. It was well lit too which is something I don't come across much. I hope to take advantage of one of their facials sometime I really like going into a salon and popping in my ear buds and having the staff understand I'm occupied therefore not into small chat and they did that here! I have been here twice for a general manicure and have to say it is always a real pleasure! I moved here from NYC to Burlingame two months ago and was in a desperate search for a nail place. I had no idea where to go. I came here to get my Pink/White tips off and get a general manicure the first time and the manicurist was awesome. She was really sweet and pleasant. Got me refills of my tea! :) The second time, this past Saturday for a manicure, Kim did my nails and she was awesome! Quick, clean, and polished! Definitely make an appointment. Do not get your eyebrows threaded here. The person that does them must not have ever been trained. She used thread on my hairline when I asked only for my eyebrows and then used tweezers on my brows. She never touched the center of my eyebrows with anything. When she was finished they looked worse than before she touched them. More expensive too. $15 for eyebrows.
