I went and saw Danny at Spa at Sacred Grounds for a 60 minute deep tissue massage. I am a harsh critic when it comes to massage, but I knew within 5 minutes this was going to be perfect. And it was. Our massages were terrific: Kelly and Kim are both really wonderful masseuses, far better than masseuses we've had at other higher profile spas. That said the pricing here is weird. At most spas access to steam and sauna is included in the price of treatment. That wasn't the case here. Which is fine, but the fact that it was extra wasn't communicated clearly by the person at the front desk. Also that person did not communicate that the steam and sauna were considered individual extras ($20 each). We would have ditched the steam room had we known. Nice place but they need to communicate their pricing more clearly on the phone. Even if it's on their website, many people prefer to call to make appointments. You have to start of your trip with a couples massage at this spa. The staff is very nice and you can even do a yoga class which we will do next time. The massage therapists are so good and really pay attention to your trouble areas. My wife and I totally enjoyed our visit. They kind of did a bait and switch with the pricing. It was $20 for the sauna AND $29 for the steam room! Plus... it's just not that luxurious. They need a lounge with calming music, dim lighting and reclining chairs. It's a bit office-like. read more

My wife and I came here for a couples massage and it was a very nice touch for a weekend getaway. The ambiance here throughout the entire establishment shouts (or in their case, quietly) nothing but serenity. Very peaceful indeed. The entire staff treats you in the most kind & gentle manner. As for the massage... it was outstanding. It didn't take her long to get my muscles relaxed, which is unusual as I tend to be very tense. To my pleasure, she had my entire body very relaxed and malleable in a short period of time. By the end, I was totally relaxed and drifting in and out of consciousness. The session we had was early morning, yet I was able to feel the positive effects of this session all day long. Jessa does a very good Swedish massage. They have you sit in the library room before your appointment. Lots of interesting books, but I didn't have enough time to look at any of them. If I hadn't been so oily after my session, I would have sat and relaxed in there a bit with a cup of tea. It was an enjoyable place. read more

I'm completely enchanted by The Spa. It smells wonderful when you walk in. I appreciated the friendly greeting, beautiful decor, peaceful atmosphere, lovely service. Above all, my massage from Dan was perfect. He communicated without talking much throughout the session. He seemed very in tune with my body and my aches and pains. I still love Spa at Sacred Grounds. Came back again this year and enjoyed my massage as usual! One thing I noticed this year and last year: they don't offer you the opportunity to shower off your oils, etc. I only did this year because I ASKED. I don't think a client should have to ask for a service like this. Any spa offers their clients the opportunity to shower off the oils and to relax. This is one thing I think they need to work on. My sister and aunt also were not given the opportunity. I felt a bit like I was being rushed out so the next client could come in. Didn't quite appreciate that. Will still come next year! Just hope they up their game a little bit! read more

Wow! Working in the industry, I don't have high hopes for massages in resort towns. Technicians are more likely to never see clients again, and therefore tend not to put a lot of intention into services. My husband and I were pleasantly surprised by our half hour anniversary massages. I had Jeanie and she had the perfect touch and excellent care. (Also, my husband has never experienced a good massage, and usually passes on the opportunity). This was not the case with Patience;, she was well educated and focused on areas that needed attention. What a wonderful experience! The entrance to the spa sets a peaceful tone with green and lush plants, and the spa itself is quiet and tranquil. Everyone was smiling and friendly and respectful. I appreciated the library, which is separated from the entrance, as a quiet place to read before my appointment. I had the Pure Result facial. The products used were kind to my skin (which can be sensitive) and the esthetician (Mary) always made sure I knew what was going to happen next withut disturbing the peaceful experience. Went here for a couples massage during our stay in Ephraim. Given the price I expected a little more out of the atmosphere and service. My girlfriend said her masseuse was great, however mine was subpar at best. The techniques were a little questionable given I was just being slapped on the back, legs etc. for a portion of the time. Finally when I got up I was left with a tightness or pinched nerve feeing in my upper back that wasn't there when I came in. My girlfriend said she'd give her experience a 5 and I would give mine a 1, hence the 3 stars. I would give this place another chance, but make sure not to get the same person. read more

Carful will cancel your appointment without warning!!! When I called to book a massage I told Diane I was 9 weeks pregnant. She required me to have my OB email her a letter of consent. Diane emailed me at 3:30am telling me she received the email from my Doctor and asked me to confirm my appt. At 5:15am she emailed me to tell me since I hadn't confirmed!!! When I called the spa I learned that one of her other masseuses had to go to the emergency room so I my doctor emailing her wasn't confirmation enough or maybe it was just more convenient to bump me out of my appointment??? read more

One of the worst massages I've had. Masseuse spent more time 'prepping' than actually touching my skin. When we discussed my issues (back pain areas) I guess I expected her to address them...but she barely touched my back at all! I never know when the most appropriate time is to ask "When is the massage going to start?" and by the time I'm so fed up, she said 'Your massage is complete'. I was floored. Also asked me to turn over, which was fine....but then began to lay a warm wet washcloth on my face without asking me!!! It was the middle of the day and I hadn't expected to 're-do' my makeup. Wish she was have at least asked before attempting this. I happened to open my eyes (thank goodness) and asked her NOT to do that. She never asked how the pressure was at all or if I was comfortable. Her hands were FREEZING as well throughout the entire massage. I thought they might warm up, but no such luck. Absolutely the lightest pressure was used... which I hate. So not worth the money for this particular gal. Or I should have been so specific before she started about what I was looking for. Now my friend also had one at the same time and said her massage was great. We had the same exact type of massage booked. We also use the same masseuse back home and love her, so I'm guessing it was just who I happened to receive here that was the issue not the spa itself. Nice ambiance for a spa even though it's on the highway--they have blocked the sound from the road well. Also, they've got a fire going and a library full of spirituality and wellness books in the small "waiting room." The rooms are plain but clean and nice, not cluttered, and the spa music was very lovely. Some of the masseuses can't do deep pressure--something we should have been told over the phone in case it was desired. The customer service was quite good although one masseuse forgot to say something before ending the massage ("There's some water over here, thanks for coming, take your time getting up") which was a bit confusing for one of our group but not such a big deal. My husband and I were in Door County last week with another couple for a relaxing week spent with friends. We decided some spa services would be a great way to end our holiday. After researching the spas in the area, we decided on the Spa at Sacred Grounds, and oh are we happy we did! My husband and I regularly get massages back home (Chicago). In fact, I'm very particular about my massages and was concerned about the quality I'd receive at an area spa. (I'm not looking for someone to simply rub oil into my skin--I'm seeking some serious work to be done by a seasoned professional who understands muscle physiology.) Our experience at the Spa far exceeded my expectations. My massage therapist, Maya, was absolutely incredible--it was truly one of the best massages I've ever had--ever. I cannot say enough about her! The entire experience was wonderful from the time we walked into the door until we left--professional, peaceful and thoughtful. My husband had a similarly positive experience (his therapist, Jamie, worked out a knot he'd had in his shoulder the entire week). My friend had a facial she couldn't stop raving about, and her husband had a massage (his first!) and similarly kept raving (and now he's hooked). I have never had a massage before,but my husband has. We wanted a get away during our mini break in Door County and we were very pleased with our choice. My husband loved his masseuse and felt wonderful after his massage. I was floored by my experience! I didn't know what to expect, but my masseuse talked me through everything. I had the back melt treatment and it was heavenly. My masseuse made sure I was comfortable with everything and checked with me about pressure and temperature of the towel. When she assuaged my feet, I thought there was nothing better...until she got to my hands. Wow! Wonderful relaxing perfect!
