I know I'm not supposed to want mass produced tchotchkes that will never biodegrade but I love them…read moreso and like to try to hit up a souvenir shop whenever I'm in a foreign place. I actually didn't see many shops like this in either Sydney or Melbourne (I'm sure they exist but we just didn't see many like you would in other touristy places) so I had to look this place up in order to find what I was looking for. Melbourne Souvenirs is easy to find but it's a tiny shop packed to the brim. It will be a little tight in here but it's well worth it because they have some nice quality items. The person working the register was really nice and friendly.

Hello Kitty koala and kangaroo on the window display!!! Of course, I had to stop in and buy them. Then, I found more Aussie Hello Kitty items. Pens, face towels, phone holders, bags, socks, keychains, plushes and coin purses. I don't even use face towels but I bought them anyway. $9 for a pen? Ok! Of course, they have other Aussie souvenir items that are non-Hello Kitty. Like shirts, stuffed toys (platypus, koala, kangaroo, etc.), magnets, shot glasses and whatever crap you want to gift your friends and family back home. I just want my Hello Kitty.

When we saw their unique teacup and mug display in the lobby of the Marriott, we knew we were going to check out the store. Sure enough, the selection of gifts ranges from Aboriginal artwork to Aboriginal-design dinner and kitchen ware to Aussie food and music and clothes. Additionally, the gift selection encompasses all age groups and price ranges. The prices are excellent, and the quality is terrific. My personal favorite find were the hand-carved wooden spoons with kangaroo handles. Be sure to bring in the tourist pamphlet advertising the store for a 10% discount. It is very easy to walk to since it is a couple of blocks up the street from the Victoria Market.

The pandan croissant at Agathe Patisserie is a must try as it's fairly unique. It's a little bit chewy texture and mildly sweet and crunchy on the outside. Padre Coffee is a popular coffee spot. If you are into oysters, definitely worth trying as the prices are much better than ordering from a restaurant. I suggest trying the local Sydney oysters. Do note that the market is not open everyday so please check and confirm opening hours before you should up. When I was there, it was open only on Wed, Fri, Sat, and Sunday.

It's just that my travel schedule has been super busy and I am about to take off again. Thanks for your patience. Quality/Quantity - What a great find! I really like Melbourne, AU! My wife craved and got a Banh Mi Sandwich; see picture. Shrimp & Bug Combo $15 - Our first experience with a "bug;" it tastes just like shrimp. Pandan Croissant - #1 seller at this bakery (Agathe); see pictures. It was done well, worth the $9AUD and the long wait. Halloween Donut - Also good. Guess I was craving green pastries today. Raclette - Sausage fromage, so good. Made fresh in front of you. I almost did not want to share it with my wife. Atmosphere - Cool indoor and outdoor space. So many choices of places to eat and drink. Approximately 39 choices to eat or drink. On approximately 10 acres. Also plenty of businesses around the market. The place is crazy busy, in a good way. If you like people, this place is for you. Plus everyone was so friendly. Paid parking garage, see pictures. We used public transportation and rideshare. Service - Good. Price - Depends what you eat or drink. Caters to locals, so all reasonably priced. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since 1867! 1972 - New Car Park. 1991 - Market and Food Hall. 2012 - Roof over car park.

You can sample various delicious foods, check out the local artwork, watch performers on the stage, or even watch a movie with some hot apple cider. There are a lot of vendors selling jewelry and clothing. I bought a very cute bracelet with custom charms and amethyst stones. I also got to try on some kimonos. Kimono stylist Sala Okabe will personally fit one for you. Just bring a smile and a camera. If you want to purchase, a kimono is only $20 -- cheaper than what I paid when I ordered mine online.

The market combines food, crafts, and entertainment to brighten up the long winter nights. After you've selected a tasty treat, you can grab a seat at the pop-up cinema, check out the live music, or snap a picture with one of the roving performers. (On the night I visited one of these "performers" was a goat in an onesie. While I suspect he wasn't one of the official acts, he was the most popular.) There are plenty of hearty Melbournians out and about to create a festive atmosphere and it's not nearly as crowded as its sister, the summer Suzuki market. This makes it an easy place to meet up with friends and have a chat while browsing the stalls. Be sure to rug up! Fires and heat lamps keep the cold at bay, but it's an outdoor venue. If you're still feeling chilly, then wrap your hands around a toasty cup of mulled wine - it will warm you up inside and out!
