The Onslow Virtual School is leaving students behind during this pandemic. It was supposed to be a…read morelearning experience equivalent to on site public school. It has failed our grandson since the start as well as at least 6 others in his class for various reasons. The teacher does not try to help students who are not excelling. She only has time for those who are able to complete their work without assistance. Instead of calling the slower students out she should spend time learning why they are struggling to answer the problems. We were dealing well with all of this until our grandson was accused of cheating on a diagnostic test. He didn't understand the problems which were geared towards testing not just 4th graders but 5th 6th and 7th grade. Why set out children up to fail a test and tell them it's not important if they get the problems correct just answer. He guessed on all but the first problem and managed by fate to achieve a 7th grade level which is far above his learning curve. Which was ok to ask him to retake but to say he achieved because he had assistance was an insult in his opinion because in his class words "she thinks there is no way I can be smart because I am different than her pets." Enough said don't use diagnostics anymore to find out it our children are dumb. They deserve better than having your teacher accuse them of cheating because they are virtual learners.

I would not recommend this school. The principal is extremely rude. My children have attended three…read moreother schools due to moving, and I have never been spoken to so unkindly by an administrator. I was treated as if I were doing something wrong for simply trying to help get children buckled in the car line. I was told I needed to drive to a so-called "buckling station" to secure kids. Not only is this unsafe, it's not even legal to drive children unbuckled -- North Carolina law requires kids to be properly restrained any time a vehicle is moving, no matter the distance. Parents should be treated with respect and supported, not talked down to for ensuring their children's safety.
