If you read my last review (it was of a library), you have read about my various stages during this pandemic and reading is one of those stages and I'm still here and I hope to never leave. But, the purpose of my visit to Southwest Chatham Library (SCL) was in connection to an earlier stage in the pandemic when I started to binge watch shows on Netflix/Amazon/Disney+. Yes, I watched Tiger King just to get it out of my system. But, getting back to the purpose of my visit, one of the last shows I watched, just to see what the hype was about, was Downton Abbey. I had watched Seasons 1 through 6. (I'm late on this train too and seems like the pandemic has been about playing catch up on life). Then, I discovered that there was more and a Motion Picture was made for one last hurrah! Seemed like the only way I would be able to see the grand finale was if I purchased it for $20 on Amazon and I wasn't that desperate. I was willing to dig a little deeper to find other ways to see the true end. I asked around to see if anyone had the movie and unfortunately no one around me had been on this train yet. BUT WHY?!!!! Then, one of the librarians at the Richmond Hill Public Library (RHPL) suggested to check nearby libraries (duh, why didn't I think of that?!) since they did not have it, but they were not lending out discs at the moment anyway. She recommended looking at SCL, but the only thing was, I would have to go and pick it up at their library since they don't do interlibrary pickups for discs like you can for books. Now, friends have told me about "the library behind Target" and I had seen pictures of it on Yelp, but I did not know they meant literally right behind Target! For those of you who are just as shocked as I am, when you enter Savannah Mall by Target, instead of turning right to go to Target, you turn left. Talk about tunnel vision.... - Parking - Center lot, but they have their own designated lot within the Savannah Mall lot. - Service - Librarians were really helpful and courteous. - Some features I noticed on my first visit: *SCL is part of the PINES network of libraries in the state of GA, although they seem to have been their own network of Live Oak Libraries *must have been either recently built or renovated because everything looks pretty new * 2 floors: 1st floor (left of entrance) - quite a large Kids Wing; (right of entrance) new releases and audiobooks, discs 2nd floor - Adult and Young Adult. I noticed there were tables, seating throughout and an Auditorium *check out their website for a TON of online resources. It seems like you can access most of them with just your library card but it seems like you can access more if you're a student in Chatham County. You can create accounts through Student Pass with your school ID. - I discovered a new app that I have access to as a library card holder, which is Hoopla where I have access to ebooks, audiobooks, movies, TV shows, limit 4 titles per month. I can access through eletronic devices and even on Roku and Firestick * Holds and self checkout stations located at the entrance make for quick and easy checkouts COVID-19 related: - masks required, social distancing, limited building capacity, you are able to browse (unlike RHPL), but visit is limited to 1 hour/person. There is a happy ending to both this review and the movie (don't worry, no spoiler alerts). I got my movie, watched it and finally brought closure to the Downton Abbey story. I also picked up a couple of new cookbooks they had in the New Release section that I already put to good use. The location is so convenient too, since I find myself at Target quite often. I am sure there are so many other resources and services they offer that I did not take note of since my first visit was a quick one, but I can't wait to return! Stay safe, Friends!

The Society itself was incorporated in 1839 and now holds the world's largest collection of materials germane to Georgia history. Hodgson Hall is a delightful building with a commodius interior and fine iron-work on the exterior, making a visit feel like a trip to a grand library at one of the world's great universities. Architect Lienau, though German-born, was one of the founders of the American Institute of Architects and though not as well-known as some of America's nineteenth-century architects, did some very innovative work including this building and it is fitting that the Historical Society is housed in a building of such note and merit. The collection itself is not only large but varied and while a lot of it understandably concerns the colonial and Civil War periods of Savannah's lengthy history, it also has interesting architectural and social content regarding the modern and contemporary history of the city and region. The Society also conducts frequent talks and events including special programs for schoolkids, partnerships with local colleges, and other efforts at outreach.

You won't be able to do your Methodology paper without access to the boxes kept in a climate controlled environment that you have to sign for and can't leave the building with, but it's worth it to leaf through the 90 year old Grand Tour diary of the 10 year old son of a doctor who was one of the earliest users of the X-Ray. I think he died of radiation poisoning. Imagine that. It's a cool and quiet library with big wood tables, little lamps and a gallery running around the room. Just what you'd picture. The people working there are cool, quiet, smart and helpful, and if you appreciate libraries, history, books, and/or architecture, you should visit.

I needed to use the computers and she was absolutely rude to me. I have been out of country for a year and didn't know the library changed to a different card. She proceeded to interrupt me when she asked me "ok well does your card look like this" I said "no, i didn..." "THEN YOU DONT HAVE A LIBARY CARD" and instead of helping me and listening to the problem she proceeded to just put me on a list for the ONE computer that everyone can use for 15 min? Out of pure frustration and lack of friendly customer service I left and went to tje Islands Library, which is the one I went to before I left country. The gentleman there was extremely helpful and I was able to fill out a form to get a new library card. To the Pooler big wigs, your community is growing and this library needs to be revamped. It wouldn't hurt to get some friendly faces too so that one in the front can simply retire and volunteer somewhere that doesn't deal with people since she clearly doesn't know how to.
