Baptist Hospital and the great doctors in the Heart institute saved my life! I had been brought…read moreinto the em room by ambulance several times for congestive heart failure and while I understand that the emergency room needs improvement I also know that every single time I was brought in I was respected and treated with dignity! I am transgender and I was addressed by my chosen name not my dead name! yes it took a long time to get a room once they decided to admit me one time my sister was so upset because I layed on a gurney in the hallway for 3 days before they fo a room for me but this is a problem that they need to fix the emergency room as far as the work they do is great I was near death when they brought me in on the ambulance and they saved me and stabilized me and even though I had to wait sometimes days for a bed they m sure that I was taken care of that I was as comfortable as possible given the situation and that I ate and that I had all the proper care and medication that I needed! as it turned out I had a faulty heart valve do to a birth defect that I didn't know I had and that had kept getting worse and worse for 62 years until I started having congestive heart failure! while in the hospital the last time the ambulance brought me in I was referred to one of the doctors at the heart institute and they did valve replacement surgery and replaced the defective valve in my heart! that was a year ago and today I am doing better than I have ever done with my heart ! I can't say enough good things about Baptist hospital or the heart institute because Baptist hospital and the heart institute and the good doctors and nurses in the ER and the heart institute and on the 9 th floor saved my life I would be dead right now if it weren't for the care they gave me and the surgery that the doctor from the heart institute preformed on me! they saved my life literally !! I checked in to Navarre Baptist emergency room after throwing up blood. I was transferred to Baptist hospital in Pensacola for possible endoscopy. That was last Sunday evening about 6:30pm. The events that took place after that point were examples of truly outrageous gross incompetence. I will update this post later as I just got back from two days of hell. I am drafting a patient advocacy complaint for the Veterans administration with all the complete facts.

The reason I did not give this hospital 5 stars is because of a particular nurse and a few random…read morethings I noticed. I did want to start off saying why I am giving a review. My veteran husband had a spinal decompression after a spinal fushion 13 years ago. First off I wanted to say that my husband was pleased with Dr Lurate. He did not have anything negative to say about him. All the nurses we dealt with in surgery waiting were kind and pleasant. Shout out to Lavail and Gemmie. Both nurses were very sweet. I can't remember the name of the nurse with long blonde hair but she was nice also. As for the nurse Karen on the second floor that took care of my husband the first night I have 4 words for you and that is GET A NEW PROFESSION. Not only were you not attentive to my husband but he asked you for crackers and you put the crackers so far on tbe table he couldn't reach it. He also said you didnt care if he wore his sleep machine or not. Which is very disturbing as my husband could stop breathing. My husband remembers almost everything and I believe she thought he wouldn't. I will never leave my husband alone at the hospital ever again if that nurse is working. None of that would of happened in my presence. Shame on her. Thankfully the next day before my husband was discharged he had two wonderful nurses Rebecca and Sara. Mary who wheeled my husband to the car was awesome. Lastly the coffee maker in tbe surgery waiting area was disgustingly inside and looked to never of been cleaned, cafeteria floors and tables were gross as well. There was someone cleaning inside the surgery waiting but I don't think she's advised to clean coffee maker inside. The lady that worked in the front was very nice and offered a warm blanket to me which I thought was super sweet.

We have had homeless people come in to our hospital who was given baths and and provided for better than my family member at West Florida. Her hair was slick it was so greasy. She has an indwelling catheter, I instructed the daughter on how to do cath care at home and she stated not one nurse or aid had done any cath care to her mother. I was amazed at how the doctor ignored the daughter who has been the primary care giver for this bed bound person since 2022. I would never recommend this hospital to anyone. There was not a single person in the lobby to even provide me with the room number. Florida healthcare needs to be fixed!
