Atlanta's Chimney Caddy - David McEwen- Owner/Operator

Apologies upfront for this long review. But sometimes, you just have to share all the details…read more.. One of our gas fireplaces got weird by sometimes turning on ... but more often by not turning on. And when it did turn on, it would shut itself off and then back on over and over. Researching the issue online, it seemed like the problem might be a weak thermopile or thermocoupler. Another possibility was a bad millivolt or oxygen sensor. Any one of these repairs would be costly. I reached out to five gas fireplace service and repairs companies. One was Plumb Doctor because their customer reviews were outstanding and their website mentioned "gas fireplace service". They called me back almost immediately to thank me for reaching out, but to let me know that while they run gas lines for fireplaces they unfortunately don't do that kind of fireplace repair work. BUT, they know this guy David who does those kinds of repairs and they send everyone with requests like mine to him. I called David and he picked up right away. I explained the issue and what I had researched online on what might be causing it. He immediately knew what the problem was, and over the phone told me to simply install a new wall switch, and to clean up the wires but putting new cuts/twists on them. For a $2.98 wall switch at The Home Depot my problem was solved. David didn't have to do that. He could have agreed it was likely the thermopile or thermocoupler and charge me to come out to fix it. I provided all those same details to each of the other four "reputable" gas fireplace repair services ... and not one of them offered that simple solution that I could take care of myself. But they were all quick to reach out to schedule an appointment for their tech to come out and provide a quote to fix it. I spent my career in sales that required a consultative approach. I learned early on to never "sell". Instead, if you want a long-term partnership with your clients, help them to "buy". David does that innately, and he now has my business whenever I'll be in need of repairs that he handles. If you're ever in need of any service that David provides, I whole-heartedly recommend him to you.

David did a great job for us at a fair price. Some other providers Yelp served up noted a full…read moreinspection & sweeping would be required right out the gate at multiple hundreds of dollars. David - who responds himself as the owner - lets you know what to expect & doesn't upsell just to pad the bill. He got right in there & saw that the fireplace had rarely been used in this 40-yr old home we bought, educated us on the type of fireplace & damper, as well as working to make a repair to the damper - no sweeping necessary. He then made sure the gas was flowing & burner working well. He cleaned up the little bit of debris & was on his way. I'll call him again if needed.

Smoke Rise Chimney Service - Business card

So I called these guys and they were booked out like months in advance for the work I wanted done…read morebecause they're so busy. Which I take as a good sign, and all I wanted was a sweep done and nothing major so the wait was no problem. I was told I would get a call within a certain timeframe, I did, and the service guy even texted me to let me know what was going on as he was running just a hair late. Unlike other companies who just leave you hanging around wondering what's going on and not answering when you call to see what's up, so I appreciated that. The thing that sold me though was that when the guy, Ryan, got here and took a look into our chimney, he asked how often we used it and how long we'd lived in the house and et cetera. So after hearing my answers, he nodded and said the chimney was super clean and that he would get me a card so I could call him in another two years to take another look at it because there was no need to do anything this time. He could have just went on about his way and "cleaned" and took his time and I would have been none the wiser to it. That honesty is hard to come by these days. Will definitely be hanging onto his card to have him come back out. The *only* complaint I have is that they don't accept card payments, so you'll need to find a check or go to the bank to get the cash you were quoted. Even then that's only because they're a small business and the fees for the card stuff is crazy. So. Yea. :)

Ryan arrive on time and brought a dropcloth inside. He was upfront and honest about our chimney not needing cleaned. He went on the roof and advised us on some routine maintenance, but no needed repairs. I was really impressed by his honesty and will definitely reach out to him again.

This was a key factor as our recently purchased home has required numerous services and repairs. Cha-Ching! Though I may be frugal, I am still mindful about quality. Good pricing along with good reviews, what did I have to lose? Our technician, Alberto, was professional, very thorough and took his time to do a good job. Admittedly, for the low cleaning/inspection price, I was expecting a laundry list of issues (upselling services); That was not the case at all! A few small issues were pointed out at the end of the inspection. There was zero pressure to get anything done. Alberto simply recommended correcting them at some point. I requested an estimate to repair and Alberto's pricing was very fair. Since he was prepared with all the materials needed in his truck, we were able to get it all done on the spot. We now feel safe and confident about using our fireplace this coming season! Great service all around has won over our future business. Will definitely continue to use them for years to come.
