Nothing terribly exciting here. That being said it is a open rest stop between King City and Paso Robles as you get closer to the coast. The site is kept tidy but as usual the restrooms are decent at best. There is plenty of historical signs to read while you stretch. read more

The rest stop was under construction for approximately 2 years and opened sometime within the last year. As expected, the facilities are spacious, clean, and safe. There is an area for pets. Vending machines are plentiful too. The Bradley area is very hot during the summer but the rest stop provided a number of shaded areas and trees for a picnic out of the sun. read more

What a nice and surprisingly peaceful, clean, large rest stop! You can still see and hear the cars zooming by, but it's not crazy loud. The scenery is beautiful, and the bathrooms are well-stocked and very clean! Baby changing stations, lots of stalls, and some benches and patches of grass. Nice clean rest stop on the 101 Southbound - about 25 miles from Paso Robles. I made the stop here on my road trip back from Monterey - despite a relatively busy 101 freeway, the rest area was relatively deserted. The facilities are clean - restrooms well maintained, vending machines, and plenty of parking. There's even a few EV charging spots here as well. Took a few photos of the area including the main facility building, picnic area, and a pet area - which had warning signs of rattlesnakes. For those that still play PokemonGO - the pet area sign is where the site's PoGO gym is at. Overall, a decent stop to stretch your legs, take a breather if you're coming along the 101 South. read more

The northbound Camp Roberts Rest Area is approximately 15-20 minutes north of Paso Robles on Highway 101. The modern building is constructed in a Spanish Revival style, and is clean & appears well cared for. There was an on-site custodian working in the area. The landscaping is in good order with beds of carpet roses, and large grassy areas with picnic tables scattered throughout. Dogs must be leashed, and please follow the signs to pick-up after your dog. There is amble parking for all vehicles. In addition to the regular parking area, there are spaces for passenger cars under solar panels for some shade on a hot day. Vending machines are near the car parking area should you require immediate drinks or snacks. Charging stations for electric vehicles are available. However, if one is driving a Tesla, I recommend using the charging station at the Hwy 46 East exit in front of the Lowe's Home Improvement store. This is a typical California rest stop. Reasonable clean bathrooms, ample parking, and a small area to let the animals and young ones run amok. As always please pick up after your dog. This is an awesome rest area. The toilets are reasonably to very clean consistently. There is a pet area. There is a big lot but it can fill up at peak hours from about 11:00-3:00 and particularly on/around holidays. There is a comparable area on the north side of the freeway. This one is on the south side. There are food and accommodations stops near here to the north and south as well. This is a great place to plan a pit stop on a road trip. read more

Really convenient rest area for trucks and trailers off to the left and the rest of you *honyocks off to the right. The restrooms were surprisingly tidy and clean. Many stalls at least for the female gender. Also, there were at least two large private ADA compliant (handicapped) stalls. I always appreciate rest areas with trash cans and recycle bins that aren't overflowing. We stopped here during the day time, but I want to say it is well-lit at night judging by the lamp posts I observed. *honyock (/häN yäk/) - a term straight out of my Southern dad's vocubulary. He would ask us very casually when we would walk by, "What are you honyocks up to?" Dad basically meant it as another word for "ornery kids" (although I suspect we weren't nearly the troublemakers he was). He probably learned it from a Louis L'Amour novel or a Paul Harvey radio broadcasting. I never asked him. read more

Actually it's two rest stops - a little bit apart from each other for different directions of the 101. Review applies to both. I've always loved this stop. It's actually a nice rest stop (I know that's an oxymoron). Big, well lit, plenty of room for everything. Lots of grass for the dog. Lots of room to stretch your legs. Stopped here the other day for a pit stop and to stretch. Convenient location and large bank of restrooms. Nice to see they've installed solar panels here. Came here on way south and made a great place to stop with a camper van. Head in on the right if not a truck or big azz RV. Pull in closer to the ends to avoid the quick stop visitors. The facilities are fine. In state of California, a visitor can sleep up your 8 hours inside a vehicle. So kick the seat back, unroll your car blanket, crank up the YouTube with the three bars if cell service and fall asleep for an hour or two or three. Rested and alert driving is better than trying to stay awake. Thanks to whoever thought of these rest stops. Paso Robles has great food options and wineries. That's your next option on the road. This is one of my favorite rest stops and always well maintained. I usually use the Southbound one. It is large enough that you can really wander around and leg stretch, plus it has some of the best birds including the Yellow-billed Magpie which only live in California. read more

This rest stop is great just to stand for a little bit, go to the bathroom, and to get a little snack or drink. It is a huge area that also has a charging station to charge electric cars that has solar paneled covered spots. The bathrooms are decently sized and thankfully has toilet seat covers. What I thought was odd was that the soap dispenser was on a different wall not next to the sinks. Also, the hand dryer said warm air and it definitely came out cold. The vending machine items run a little on the expensive side. Overall, great rest stop with just a few doable issues. read more

A surprisingly clean and well-maintained rest stop if you're just looking to make a quick stop on your way from LA to Monterey through the central route north and west taking 405 - I5 - 101. Even the architecture is modern and pretty. The bathroom was empty and clean as far as public restrooms for women are concerned. There were people parked there, but most were in their cars on a chilly summer morning (about 58 degrees), probably just resting. There's a place to charge electric cars, a place to relieve your dog with a bag dispensary and lots of vending machines. They sell coffee, ice cream, junk food and cold drinks and you can use your credit card. You can even read some signs they have posted about the area you're in and some local history. I didn't have a lot of time so I was in and out of there, but again, nice, safe-looking place in the light of day. read more

Woohoo! Another highway rest area review! That's 2 in less than 2 months. I am the road warrior! & 3 hours into my road trip from the SF Bay Area down to San Diego, by way of Buellton, the road warrior had to pee. When I pulled off 101 to the Camp Roberts Rest Area on a Saturday morning, I found it to be tranquil & even scenic. There was plenty of parking & the men's restroom was clean. There were also some vending machines (though I didn't investigate their contents) & what looked to be historical plaques (though I didn't investigate those, either). A long drive lay ahead for the road warrior, so I had to be on my way. But if I did have the time to linger, the Camp Roberts Rest Area seemed like it would be a nice place for that. read more

I have never written a review about a rest stop but after stopping at this one I can see why I should. At first I thought it looked like a ghetto building that I might end up getting killed in but after stopping my car and getting down I had second thoughts. This place was super clean and really neat for doggies. I mean they actually really thought about pets and had those baggies for your dogs and also a small little water fountain for them. Also they had a nice area where the doggies can walk on grass around this place. Parking was plenty and they did also have vending machines if you wanted to grab something on the go. I'm glad I got to do something different and to know that there is a pet friendly rest stop was just great. It made me smile and think that the designers actually took the time to think about not just humans but also the pets that you bring along with you on a vacation trip!! read more

Unlike the I-5 rest areas that are creepy enough to make one think twice about stopping, this one is almost like a "park". There are some attractive displays explaining the history of the area and the usual grassy area to walk your dog, sit at a picnic table and reflect. The bathrooms are relatively clean and adequate. Wow! I saw two yellow billed magpies there! Haven't seen any magpies in years! Magpies are smart! They know what a kid with a shotgun is all about. Alas! My career as a bounty hunter ended when mother got tired of seeing bags of magpie heads in the food freezer. Now, I was happy to see two yellow billed magpies begging for food at the rest stop! I was sorry for my days as an assassin and glad to see my old nemesis employed at his former occupation. According to Wikipedia, "the yellow billed magpie is extremely susceptible to West Nile virus. Between 2004 and 2006 it is estimated that 50% of all yellow-billed magpies died of the virus." The birds back in those days traveled in flocks and were a problem to the farmers. The birds at Camp Roberts Rest Stop appear to be regulars as they were rather friendly or maybe it's because they noticed I wasn't pack'n heat. read more

Wow. Who would have thought a rest area would have impressed me so. Stopped here on our way up north. After 3 and a half hours of driving we needed to stretch our legs and take a break from the kids' whining about taking too long blah, blah, blah The bathrooms were SO clean and non smelly, big plus! Oh, there's no peekaboo spaces between the stalls ( feet area). The layout was thoughtfully planned out for traveling folks. There's a pet friendly area with a water drinking fountain for them. Also there's panels with information about the flora, fauna, fossils and the area. Great for the kids and adults. After a couple of rounds around the walking path ( to stretch our legs) I noticed they have a larger one stall bathroom on each side of the building that are wheelchair friendly. I think it's pretty funny that this rest area, named after Camp Roberts is in better shape than Camp Roberts itself. Seriously, if Camp Roberts looked this nice who wouldn't want to go to there? Place is very nice and kept clean and kept. The buildings are even in the design of the old missions that dot the 101 so it's nice. Took a rest stop on the south bound and the place was beautiful, clean & educational. Lots of vending machines. There were info signs about the history of the area. Lots of trees. There's also a large grass area for dogs to run around. The Mission style buildings reflect the history of the missionaries. read more

Stopped here on our way to Santa Cruz for a bit. Aside from the cars on highway it was really quiet and not much for traffic at about 3 am. Bathrooms really nice and very nicely light up. Same for the vending machine, which here stocked. Sign also said patrolled my CHP so that was nice as well. read more

Stopped by here during a 6 hr drive. This rest stop was actually quite nice! Very open, plenty of parking. Vending machines were stocked and the bathrooms were impressively clean. The maintenance is upkept and there are plenty of trash cans, recycling and a cigarette trash thing too. Tables located around if needed. I hate stopping during long drives but this was actually a really nice rest stop in my opinion lol read more

This is a wonderful little rest area just off the 101 with plenty of grass, shady trees, and picnic tables. There were both trash AND recycling receptacles, which was pleasantly surprising. There is a designated pet area complete with a dispenser for baggies so you can clean up after your pets even if you haven't brought anything with you. This is a very nice touch. There were yellow billed magpies everywhere startling me with their raucous calls. There are plenty of signs and plaques with historical information about Camp Roberts. (Yes, it was a real place). Did you know that oil doesn't actually come from dinosaurs? Well, now I do thanks to another historical information sign. If you're wondering, it comes from microscopic remains of diatoms - yes, this whole area was once a shallow sea full of these plankton. Come stretch your legs and learn learn a few more interesting factoids. A variety of vending machines provide drinks and munchies if you need them. The restrooms are large and very clean. The handicapped stall even has its own sink, soap, and hand dryer. All in all this is a pleasant little stop for a restroom trip, an opportunity to stretch your legs, and to learn a little about the flora, fauna, and history of the area. read more
