Southall is a desi Mecca for those traveling outside of India, Pakistan or Bangladesh. It is no joke, and has a rich history among a diverse religious and cultural community that seamlessly works together to thrive. Southall gave birth to equality in the UK amongst a xenophobic populace that still stands today, and it showcases the riches every day among small business owners.
What was once a forgotten place now boasts some of the best foods outside of India with street jalebi and kabob vendors, amazing clothing (mostly Punjabi and Pakistani styles), grocery stores, a huge Sikh temple, and eateries of all kinds. It's so good and fun. I recommend checking out grocery stores, a small corner shop, or really anything for a great experience. Women can fancy some amazing shopping and bargain down prices, and men can gather over chai and samosas to talk cricket. Here, you get the local Londoner experience.
This is a 30 minute detour that is worth it. I can't wait to be back again and I highly recommend you visit. Parking is ample, but I recommend taking the future Tube line, or the train from Paddington. When exiting the station, head right and down the hill. Go nuts. read more
