There is a huge selection of books and I love how it's organized. I really enjoyed the basement section that held the history of the space and some of the very first books that survived the fire that burnt its predecessor. The staff is friendly and kind. When I saw the opportunity to make my own three dimensional leather rose listed on the June Events…read moreat Rochambeau library newsletter, I immediately registered by emailing rocadults@clpvd.org to reserve my seat. Registration is suggested. The event was held on Saturday, June 28 in MakerSpace starting at 3:30pm. When I entered Rochambeau library, there was a sign that gave instructions to MakerSpace. Cassidy introduced herself and there were 6 of us for the event. We sat at the desks with all the supplies and Cassidy informed us we have the option for a mini or a large leather rose. Most of us chose the large leather rose. First, Cassidy instructed us to cut the petals out of the leathercraft pattern for 3-D Leather Roses by Annie Libertini. Using the pattern, we then traced the shape onto the leather. Next, we soaked the leather with water. This helps the leather pliable and easier to mold. We pinched, twisted, and rolled the leather into the tight center of a rose. Using a bottle cap as a base, we put the outer shell and the inner shell of the rose together with some leather glue. Lastly, we just have to allow the petals to dry over night. The next day, the petals were dry and they held their shape. Cassidy was very friendly, very knowledgeable about leather, and gave instructions that were easy to follow. Rochambeau library has many different events, so I'm sure there is something for everyone.

Has rooms you can book and utilize 5. runs a lot of great events for kids and adults alike (my daughter has done October ghost hunting after hours, they do concerts for kids, Bluey events, storytime, free family portraits, etc... Check their website for listings and they change frequently!) 6. They have a book store called friends of the Library which is open on Wednesday and Saturday mornings (donated books sold extremely cheap) 7. The building holds a lot of history 8. Plenty of parking 9. They do kids and adult craft take home bags. Check their calendar for adults and register monthly for kids its a different craft weekly (all free!) Only thing- I wish some of the employees were a little more friendly and outgoing. Especially with my kids.

It's on the corner of Wickenden and Ives in the downstairs of the Boy and Girls Club. It is usually easy to park on the street. You can go on line and order your books for pick up here. They make it easy. And the staff is super friendly and efficient. It's my go to library of choice. Be sure to check out the courtyard mural by artists Marina Katayeva!

The Fox Point Community Library is a branch library of the Providence library system. A small…read morelibrary, it shares a building with the senior center and a few other things and can take a bit of thought to find the entrance when going here for the first time. It is well organized and clean and like all libraries today has wifi and computers available. It gets a bit noisy during certain times when the kids come in to do their homework or mess around but it's generally well behaved and friendly. The library had events and activities and the local chess club meets here. The hours are odd and irregular and the last I looked it wasn't open at all on the weekends and has mostly afternoon and evening hours. I guess they don't like mornings. A simple branch library that has its quirks but is useful and convenient with friendly librarians and all the things that a library should have.

I'm challenging myself to visit all public libraries in the state of Rhode Island this year and I…read morestarted with Barrington Public Library--I unknowingly set the bar high for the other libraries. I had reserved a room online and the staff was really helpful in helping me find the room. They do hold your reservation for up to 15 minutes if you're running late. The study rooms are spacious, a bit modern, and they even have more upstairs. I found that there were lots of different seats and sort of study spots around the library--wooden chairs, couch like chairs, tables, darker spots, spots by the window, etc. I loved that they had a puzzle that you could help with. I also think it's neat that they have a zone for each age group and it's nicely decorated plus clearly marked sections for different genres and type of books. I took one of their newsletters and quickly found out they have lots of activities each month, some of which I plan to attend. I was also in shock to find that they have a very nice auditorium where they have speakers but also show films. There was lots of parking, the outside of the building is nice, there are some cafes and stores nearby, and they even have a museum in the basement for the town of Barrington (although it does have special hours of operation). I love forward to coming back eventually and seeing how they decorate and organize according to seasons.

I just know that each time I enter the building I hold my breath and touch those amazing ornate doors that are just background to the hallway where students eat cafeteria food. As one would guess, this library is amazingly curated. I am a huge Maurice Sendak fan and I found copies of works by him that I didn't know existed. Like the first translated version of a famous Czechoslovakian fairy tale that he illustrated. I always grab a comic too. They have two sections, one for typically sized comics and one for over sized comic books. Also, the student work they showcase is always interesting. As a bibliophile I feel genuinely lucky to have this library in my home state. And I'll totally marry someone who has tenure there so I can sneakily read their books till they die.

An itty bitty…read more library Conimicut Library is small place that is easy to go right by. It looks just like many of the small houses in this beachy area and I suspect that's exactly what it was at one time. Very quaint and unobtrusive. Of course since it is so tiny the library isn't the best place to find some esoteric tome or reference source. The much larger main Warwick Library would be a much better choice for serious research. This library serves the local community and does that well. It has some comfy chairs, a nice fireplace and a very causal and cool atmosphere that is immediately apparent. One table still had arts and craft material from some craft project and pictures and local notices are plastered on many of the walls. Lots of these notices concern projects and programs for children. Obviously the focus here is on kids. Of course they do have books, CD's and DVD's but don't expect a lot of variety. This is a very small but very pleasant local retreat. Just quietly going about it's business the same way it has been doing for a long time. An itty bitty library

The traffic through here is minimal and there is a decent selection of children's books. I love the main branch, don't get me wrong, but this one doesn't have tablets and touch screen computers that the kids can immediately jump on and zombify themselves with. They actually chose to *gasp* read! And play. And do crafts. There are computers for patrons of the teen/adult variety, but thankfully they are tucked away near the entrance and away from the children's area. This location does not have self checkout, which is refreshing! Human beings helping you out instead of machines? Love it. Wow... I really sound like a luddite.... Anyway.... Yes the selection of books/movies is limited, but you can simply order whatever you'd like to read/watch and pick it up at any location. The bathroom is clean and I love the added touch of a fireplace with cozy chairs beside it. The librarians are LOVELY. Very kind and helpful. They really helped the kids enjoy the whole experience and the craft offered while we were there was adorable. Now if only they would get a pet tarantula like the main... 6 STARS!!!! But until that day, 5 stars it is!!!

I found this library because they were hosting a Kristen Hersh…read morereading and performance in their basement, and I ended up being pleasantly surprised by the whole building. The Knight Memorial Library definitely stands out in the neighborhood for it's sheer size. It was designed by Edward Tilton - the same man who designed Ellis Island - and is composed of lots of marble and stone. It is definitely grand, especially for a neighborhood library. However, when you walk into the building it has a welcoming vibe. The library itself looks comfortable for people of all ages. It feels airy but also warm. I didn't get to check it out all that much that night, but I'm happy to have been introduced and I'm looking forward to coming back for other readings or just to check out a book. Go libraries!
