What a fantastic idea for a winter event! Anita you killed it again.
It was a chilly Friday night, I was exhausted and not in the most sociable of moods... my couch was calling. But, not wanting to cancel, I hauled my dreary butt out the door and to The Box Factory Community centre, and gosh I am so glad I did.
First of all, although I'd heard of it, I'd never been to The Box Factory. What a great facility! Gold star to Adelaide City Council for looking after this gem. It was a perfect little spot for a cooking class, with a large open kitchen/dining area. Apparently they do cooking classes here on the last Friday of each month, so I'll have to check them out again.
As for the soup cooking itself, Rob from Soupa is definitely excited about soup and sharing his soupy love. We were split into 4 groups to make four different soups: Potato & Leek, Seafood Chowder, Pumpkin & Ginger and good ol' Chicken Noodle.
I am quite a confident cook, so I was attending more for the opportunity to be sociable and eat some delicious (free!) soup. But given my team chose the chowder I was also pushed out of my comfort zone - which is fab.
My only constructive feedback would be that there were a LOT of us in a tight kitchen, and therefore I'm not sure we all learnt too much. But that just goes to show how popular Yelp Adelaide's awesome events are. Plus we all got tasty soup and a cosy place to spend our Friday night, so I'm not that bothered at all! read more
