Had been meaning to try this place ouy for a year, mostly to check out the concerts they put on in the downstairs area....so we dropped by at lunch to have a quick soup (we tried the Satay and Moroccan Lamb and Lentils.) Not bad... The Satay soup was a little watery for my liking and the bread was definitely not fresh, but all other ingredients looked and tasted pretty honest and healthy. Great background music and nice laid back (slightly hipster) atmosphere.

Nursing a small hangover and desperately looking for some lost keys around the Northern Quarter, we needed somewhere quick, cheap and easy for lunch today. The atmosphere at Soup Kitchen is completely welcoming and homely - big wooden tables and a huge variety of people, from families and mum's with their babies to solo home workers and friends catching up, I don't think anyone would feel unwelcome. Food wise, it's pretty much in the name. A variety of soups, stews and sandwiches, all very authentically homemade. With canteen style service, you just head up and get your tray, pay, and return to your table. I had a bowl of the sweet potato, chilli and red pepper soup and it was truly great - perfectly warming for the winter weather. The boys had soup and sandwiches, which looked delicious, but would've written me off for the remainder of the day! I've been for music before, but I'll be back for the food.

That's raspberry cream on top of cheesecake on top of brownie. It is also known as amazing.

Both our soups came with a very nice seeded roll and some butter, and the pair of us could not fault either the food nor the price,£3.

The coffee shop is in an old mill building next to the canal and it is SO PRETTY. I went for when it opened so I was the first one in and I had a great chat with one of the staff about dragonball z as I was wearing a shirt of it. Inside it looked immaculate, very trendy and a place I would love to go to, time and time again. It was a large space too and they had their own merchandise in there which I will buy one day and a full cabinet of delicious looking treats .. all handmade and not the usual manufactured items. I went for a donut and a flat white and they were both amazing. As I was on a coffee tour, I took it all out and had it whilst sat next to the canal ... perfect view for a perfect coffee. I couldn't recommend this place more and I count the days until I can return.

Go in through the main entrance, past reception and the cafe is on the far right. In side it's dimly lit but cosy with lots of exposed wood. Great coffee, great cakes and a nice relaxed atmosphere. Every time we've been here it's always pleasantly busy but not overcrowded. There's plenty of seating inside at tables and long benches, or you can head into the "outside" seating area, which is actually indoors but under glass and so protected from the weather. They also roast their own coffee so you can pick up a bag to go.

One Sunday I went up as I could get there for opening time and decided to cross it off my list. When I got there it was already open so that was a little confusing ... but it was RAMMED. Luckily, I was going on my own so could easily be sat at the window, which was a great view, and easily got served. So many people came in after me and couldn't be seated without a reservation. But the host was very lovely and gracious and people understood. Food wise I went for the shakshuka, it sounded nice, and it really was ... it was also EXTREMELY hot because it was served in cast iron and kept its heat. It was delicious. The toast was crispy, the tomatoes were tasty, chickpeas were crunchy and a nice addition, The added sausage was very delicious, the eggs were good although I would have preferred if they had some runny yolk but its almost impossible to get that with baked eggs. Server was lovely, staff were great, absolutely need to return here when I can.
