This restaurant will hurt/maim you if you ask for accommodation with an allergy. Called in, spoke to staff about working with my wife's allergy at the teppanyaki table. Staff assured us they would either cook her food first, or cook her food separately in the kitchen. Neither of those things happened, as the staff would clearly rather make an assumption that the allergy is false, proven by their disregard for food handling safety. Even before STARTING to cook our food, the chef CONFIRMED the allergy, and assured us he would keep us safe. Chef then proceeded to contaminate his entire cooktop as the meat was ninety percent cooked, at which point we had to refuse our portions of chicken. Our entire table was very verbal, asking "what are you doing, that lady is allergic!" when he used the citrus contaminated tools to turn our food as well. Then, to "rectify" the site, the chefs cooked another portion on the table we couldn't observe, which promptly caused my wife to get hives on her exposed skin and in her mouth and airway. We sent her plate away, three quarters uneaten, with sauces never used as the waitress refused to check the recipe. At the end of our meal, they had the audacity to charge us full price for our meal, even after this blatantly dangerous screwup was pointed out to the most senior staff by the head of our table. Only at this point did they offer any reimbursement/discounting of our bill, with NO APOLOGY. Will not be back, and I strongly suggest that you do not eat here either. Pretty obvious they do not comprehend proper food handling, sanitation, and customer service. Do not waste your money here. read more

This is probably the best japanese restaurant in Grande Prairie. The ambiance and service was really good and the food was amazing too. However, towards the end of our dinner, they decided to clean up the ones they use for tepanyaki and the smell was sooo horrible and I just lost my appetite. My partner and I didnt like the really bad smell so we raised the concern to one of the waitresses. She was very apologetic and understanding but theres really nothing we can do about it as the smell was already in the air and we have already lost our appetite. But overall, the restaurant was really good and so as the food. Price is reasonable for the amount of serving. The only downfall was the smell and timing of cleaning the thing they use for teppanyaki. I hope next time they'll do that when no customers around. read more

hadn't updated their hours so we came in 20 minutes to close - they were SUPER accommodating and still let us order takeout. the food was divine once again, the service was quick, and the lady working the front was lovely. all in all, everything went awesome! read more

I've been here 3 times and have been pretty happy each time. The service is good but the food is great. Definitively one of the best Japanese places in Grande Prairie. The decor is a little swanky and that would throw some people off but it's definitely a good restaurant. I've ordered the sushi boat and I've ordered sashimi from them. Very delicious. read more

A great sushi place in town. The chefs are exceptionally skilled; the food is quite good and they clearly spend some time on the presentation of most dishes. Furthermore, the sushi is well made and fresh; the portions are pretty good considering the price and quality. The service is kind, a little above average--nothing negative to say really--and the restaurant itself has a pretty casual Japanese atmosphere to it. Not too traditional, but still feels pretty authentic. The location is convenient and they take your order moderately quickly. If you're going as a family, try the teppanyaki styled cuisine where they cook it right in front of you. It's pretty fun and it lightens up the mood as you look at their chefs perform a 'show' while they cook your food. So seldom does one find great sushi in the prairies, this is no exception. The menu is expansive, the restaurant looks promisingly up to date. The service prompt, and yet this restaurant failed to provide the basics of a great sushi experience. The nigiri was presented with pickled ginger, wasabi, and soy sauce as expected, but the rice was overlooked and flavourless leaving the fish ultimately to fend for itself, which in fairness it did quite well. The menu offered a nebulous "seaweed salad" which turned out to be wakame salad, and was actually quite good. In summary, this restaurant would be one of the few greats in grande prairie, provides they payed a little more attention to the preparation of the rice, perhaps the most essential sushi ingredient. If you decide to eat here, perhaps choose the sashimi. read more

We decided to eat here while on a business trip since we were wanting sushi. Trip Advisor marked SOTO as #1 sushi in Grande Prairie. We were every happy with our meals! The sushi was great and I had a bento box that included chicken teriyaki and some tempura items. Would recommend! read more

Used to love this place and eat here all the time but not anymore. We ordered the the spicy platter which we had ordered several times before and noticed this time they had changed it and had not added the usual spicy sauce which they usually do and it was made very carelessly. When I asked my waitress about it she had no idea so she asked the owner who knows us as regular customers. I was pretty disappointed when the owner didn't care about my concern and didnt even bother coming to our table to hear what the problem was. Instead she just told the waitress to tell us that nothing has changed and thats how they make the rolls for that platter. Not impressed with the food or service, would rather go to Prairie Sushi or Tokoyo Ichiban. read more

This place is ONLY good to go to. Forget ordering from this dump. They haven't figured out how that works. One night I order $50 worth of food only to have them forget the smoked salmon sashimi. Another night I couldn't get my order put in because the lady who takes the calls stands in a room filled with fans and other disturbing noises and will not go somewhere quiet. I had to hang up in frustration. Only to have her calle back, still unable to hear me and I was yelling! I told her I am not yelling my order to you. She tried to repeat what I had asked for and still got it wrong. I hung up a second time and ordered from elsewhere. Complete imbicles. read more

I am very disappointed in this place. I am a server myself so it takes a lot for me to write a bad review, but I was shocked tonight. We've been to this place several times and the service has never been good but for the grill we have gone back. Well tonight was likely the last time. Our cook splattered hot oil or water in some of our faces. Obviously very inexperienced and I get that we all start from somewhere but hot liquid in our faces?! Then our server wasn't attentive (which is normal there) but at the end she could NOT get our bills right. She had to go back many times and she still couldn't get it right finally we just paid what she was charging, which was minus 1 pop, as it had already been like 10 mins. Then, to top it off when we were done - get this - THEY CAME AND ASKED US TO LEAVE (they had people waiting I guess?) I was and still am speechless. That is inexcusable. I am very upset. read more
