Oooh this place was so good! Went here for my sister and brother in law's birthdays. They live in Covington and wanted to try this spot since it was only 10 min from their house and much closer than Asadero Sinoloa in Kent. As soon as we got seated our waiter presented us a board of fresh cut limes, lemons, oranges, cucumbers and mint and asked if we wanted any to add to our water, complimentary! I never have seen this at a restaurant before so I thought this was a very nice touch. He also came with salsa and tostadas on the house while we looked at the menu. For my drink I got the Valentina margarita which had muddled berries and jalapeño and it was delicious and refreshing! Just a tiny kick of spice for flavor. Had a choice of getting it with a single shot or double shot of tequila, but I just got a single since I'm a light drinker and it was perfect for me. My boyfriend just got a modelo for his drink. For appetizers we got two orders of the tuetanos, which came with two slabs of bone marrow and three slices of bread. The bone marrow was really good but I wish there was more of it versus the bread. I can do without the bread lol, but my boyfriend liked the bone marrow with it. For our mains I got the Chuleta de Ribeye while my boyfriend got the Vacio and my family got the Carne Asada, Arrachera skirt steak, and birria tacos. My boyfriend and I also ordered a side of mushrooms to share since the steaks came a la carte. Omg my chuleta de ribeye was amazing! It comes on a sizzling plate along with rosemary, rock salt and an oil with herbs. It's an 18oz steak so can be shared between two people if you just wanted to order one steak and some other dish. Def worth the price, one of the best steaks I've ever had in a restaurant. Our total with tip for the two of us was $166 but we did indulge more than usual with the appetizer, drinks, and side since it was a special occasion and we wanted to fully enjoy the experience. The ambience was surprisingly very posh so felt like we were in Bellevue and not Maple Valley. So with the expectation of spending $$$, def consider this place for special occasions. If I could give Sonora Steak ZERO stars, then I would! My daughter's 12th birthday is today (December 10th). We have a family tradition that allows the birthday person to choose the restaurant to celebrate their birthday. My daughter loves steak, and when we moved to Maple Valley this summer in August, she noticed Sonora Steak and let me know that she wanted to go there for her birthday. So I contacted the restaurant today and confirmed a reservation for 6 pm. We were seated at 5:55 pm, and for the next 30 minutes we were not even ACKNOWLEDGED!! We had 2 waitresses that were clearly serving the area where we were sitting, not even speak to us. The female manager walked past our table 4 times and never said hi or even acknowledged that we were in the restaurant. We were not even offered water, for the 30 minutes we were there. I have experienced better customer service in fast food restaurants like KFC and McDonald's. Needless to say, I will never frequent this restaurant again. But I'm just sad for my daughter to have this horrible experience on her birthday. However, I'm happy to say that after we left Sonora Steak, that we received 5 star service at Mizu Steak in Covington, Washington...without a reservation! read more

This was my first time at a Mexican Steakhouse and it did not disappoint! We came on a Friday night and it was definitely busy! Luckily we were able to snag seating at the bar. The drinks were definitely presented nice, but our favorite was the Yuma Punch! We ate family style as the server recommended and we ordered the side of rice and beans, Ribeye and Grandmas Enchiladas. The ribeye was super juicy and cooked perfectly! Great bang for your buck for the size. Wish they gave more of the Chimichurri because it was delicious. The enchilada was also huge! Perfect size to share. Our server Megan was the sweetest! Megan gave us the best customer service! Service to me is super important at restaurants & they definitely had top notch customer service here. Was very excited to have a new place in Maple Valley to try and this place was a very promising addition to an area that I would not call a foodie haven. I would say this place is okay and I'm willing to try it again in the hope it evolves into something I think could be a great addition to the community. The complimentary three "chips" with beans are very tough and are gone quickly. The Molcajete was great, but with only three "chips" you have tons left over. Had the green salad which was fine but the dressing was too sweet, definitely needs more acid for balance. The pescado tacos were also okay. Had good flavor but the fish was a little over cooked. There's was also a drizzle on it that should have been on the side. The place is very nice and clean. A little loud for evening service, so don't plan on an intimate conversation. Tons of staff to take care of you, so that was nice to see This place is promising and I hope they make some tweaks and continuously improve. I will be back to check periodically. read more

The service was absolutely amazing! Everything was perfect. It was the restaurants first time being open on a Friday and they didn't disappoint at all. All the food came at the right time and it was hot and fresh. Dave was phenomenal and we will definitely be requesting his section again. We ordered the cheese fundido with chorizo for appetizer BEFORE we found out that the chips and salsa were gratis. Both were very good but the salsa is outstanding with big tomatoes heavy on the spice. Our main course was Ribeye and Asada. The Asada was excellent but the ribeye blew my mind. It was buttery, well seasoned with a nice smoky taste. I'm still thinking about that steak. I'll definitely be ordering that next time. For a side between 2 people, the baked potato was easily big enough to share. It was loaded with all the toppings and hit every flavor note you expected and more. The creama, green onions and strips of wagyu were yummy yummy yummy. The whole thing just worked well together. And it even tasted great the next day as leftovers. The roasted whole cauliflower with sauce was ok. We probably won't order that again. Besides, by this time, we were extremely full. Some advice! Get yourself that ribeye and a Papa Loca. Another one by the Asadero family. This place is fucking awesome David's passion for steak shows as the meat is so soft and buttery. Some great hidden gems and a good mix between some familiar Mexican dishes from the other restaurants and "Argentinian" style steakhouse. The showstopper for me and a must try was the roasted cauliflower. Very popular in high end restaurants in Mexico but first Mexican restaurant I see it done here in Seattle. This will blow your mind! Our server; Angela, was great and friendly. Lots of new servers so please be patient. Exited to see how the bar will get as there is not much to do in Mapple Valley and they are building a nice patio for the summer. read more

From the appetizer menu we had Toritos and the Guacamole Casero. The Toritos has great flavor, but warning, they are HOT! The guac was fresh and delicious! For dinner we ordered the Wagyu New York Strip and the Burris Tacos. Both were delicious, but the tacos just might have been better than the steak. They were amazing!!! Highly recommend! We have been to Sonora a couple of times now and it does NOT disappoint. Maple Valley was definitely in need of some "nicer" dinner options and this place fits the bill - good ambiance, excellent service, and delicious food! Yes, it's a bit pricier than most of the surrounding establishments, but it's worth it. Water comes infused with your choice of fresh fruit, plus a little starter of tostadas with bean dip and fresh salsa. Margaritas were tasty and strong. We have tried the queso and guacamole for appetizers; both are great but the guac really stands out - highly recommend! We have tried a few entrees (torta, tacos, steaks, etc.) and my favorite were the Tacos Del Patron. On top of the great food, we have always received excellent service from Sonora's hosts and servers. They were very attentive, checking on our tables frequently, and food and drinks came out in a reasonable amount of time. Our servers were quite knowledgeable about the menu offerings - both times we received great recommendations on what to order. Easy 5/5 stars! read more

Waiter was condescending and dismissive. Asked for steak at least medium well as I hate undercooked steak. I was told the cast iron plate it sets on would continue to cook the steak. When I got it middle of steak was very undercooked like blue in the center. The cast iron I had my steak on was barely warm enough to cook 4 very thin small pieces cut off the very edge of steak. On the other hand husband who likes steak less done had a very hot cast iron plate. When the waiter came back I pointed out to him how raw my steak was and how cool my plate was compared to husbands. He shrugged and kept talking about other things. Never offered to take steak back and cook longer, never brought a hotter cast iron plate. So I quit eating my steak. Unfortunately the fries I had to eat were cold and undercooked and limp. For price of $360 with tip I would NEVER RECOMMEND OR RETURN TO THIS RESTAURANT. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!!
