Terrible chopped brisket sandwich. Look at the fat. Never had this problem at other Sonny's. No more Sonny's for us.

If you are in Gainesville and you want BBQ you need to hit Sonny's. Make sure you go on a very empty stomach as the portions are huge. Service is pretty friendly and quick. The foods is amazingly delicious and pricing is reasonable. This is a Gainesville must do. read more

I have always loved Sonny's but I think we are going to have to find a new BBQ place. Tonight we ordered takeout from Sonny's only to find the food was not what we ordered when we got home. My husband called and was very nice when he explained we had received the wrong food. He then told them what we had ordered. My husband went back and not only was the food not ready, but my beef brisket was mostly fat. It also had 4 bones in it. read more

The dining room was so dirty, we should have left, but gave benefit of doubt that maybe they were busy for dinner. I love Sonny's sliced pork doused in their sweet BBQ sauce! I've loved it ever since I got my first taste as a UF freshman back in the 90s. Give it to me on that thick garlic bread with a side of crinkle fries, ranch sauce, and a bucket-sized tumbler full of sweet-iced tea, and I am in BBQ heaven!!! This is all I ever order when I eat there. I cannot find pork served like this anywhere else. Whenever I'm back in town, it is one of the first stops I make. This location on 39th Ave is great, probably my favorite of the 3 locations in Gainesville. Usually not as crowded as the one on Archer Rd. Looks nearly brand new inside. I think they renovated not too long ago. Service is top-notch. The server who handled our party of 9 was friendly and attentive, and our drinks never got low. Our food came out hot and fresh. My family members liked the salad bar too. No complaints here. I'll definitely be back on my next visit to Gainesville. read more

We have a all new Sonny's! It's clean and my husband loves the TV's. The food is the same not bad. Sonny's has the best iced tea. If you want BBQ pulled pork stop here but I take my guests to conestogas over Sonnys. Nothing against Sonnys but conestogas is local and their hamburgers are the best in the area. I have been in this sonnys once a week for past month. People placing to go orders waiting a hour. Evidently they are short staffed. This mess has been happening for 4 weeks not just this time. A guy was waiting in the restaurant for one hour. He waited at his house for 45 minutes prior to that. before driving here. Plenty of waitresses. Cook staff is slacking. I am overhearing conversations of short cook staff. They are hosting a benefit for GHS so i guess.drive thru is busy. Surely not inside. Great food and great service. Staff is super friendly (we were taken care of by Heather and the GM Trey stopped by and check up on us) and the BBQ is very juicy! Ordered curbside pickup 25 mins estimated time till done showed up 30 minutes later and still had to wait 30 more minutes in the curbside slot without so much as a there was a delay we are working on it. Food was cold when I finally did receive it. read more

We really enjoy sonny's and come every time we're in Florida. The barbecue, salad bar, fries, and tea are always good.

This place was a great place to eat. They also had great service and still deliver during COVID. All the workers wore their mask and fast.

I am usually pressed for lunch being as though I only get 30 minutes. I can always count on Sonny's to have my order ready, correct, & tasteful every time I visit. My order was placed with Dylan who was very friendly. He made sure all of my condiments & utensils were also in my bag before I left the restaurant. We ordered out tonight because my wife and I did not want to go out. We have picked up from Sonny's in the past and it was ok. Tonight it was not only awful it was the worst. We have eaten at Sonny's for years. We live very close to this Sonny's and have visited this location many times. I do not know what happened but this was poor. When I talked to someone who said they were the manager they wanted me to tell what they should do. I am not in the business, she is. Why should I have to tell her what to do. My family loves Sonny's but the service here tonight was non-existent. Waiting 15-20 minutes to not even order drinks with 4 hungry/thirsty kids in-tow is unacceptable. Therefore, we walked out. I don't think even one staff member even noticed. read more

I understand Covid but everything about this experience was horrible except the hostess. We were seated promptly as only about 10 tables had people at them. Most of the seated tables only had two people at each. The waitress showed up about 20 minutes later and took our drink and food order at the same time. At this time I also ordered a to-go meal. Approximately 15 minutes later we received our drinks. Almost an hour after being seated our food arrives, served by someone else. We asked for sauce as it's not on the table due to Covid. With already lukewarm food another 10 minutes go by and I finally get up and take an "unsanitized" sauce caddy from an empty table that had not been cleaned. 10 more minutes go by and the waitress arrives and asks if we need anything (mind you we are now 20 minutes after being served our food), I explain that the to-go order was not brought out and inquire as to whether or not it had been put in. I also explained that we all needed drinks and that we had to retrieve sauce from another table because no one had brought it. She said we just got really busy I'm so sorry, I'll check on it I swear I put it in. At this time there were maybe 8 tables and only about 3 had not received food prior to us. I ask for the bill and she hands it to me and walks away. Another 20 minutes go by and the waitress still hasn't come back. Finally, I deducted the to-go order from the bill and handed her the remainder on the way out. Almost nonexistent service, burned chicken strips, hard grilled cheese sandwiches and cold barbecue and French fries. I will go to one of the other Sonny's restaurants from here on out. Certainly no one would think Sonny's is the best BBQ place around, but it is not bad. I like their pulled pork the best and maybe it is just me, but I always find that their ribs have too much fat. I prefer this location of Sonny's as it is less crowded than their Archer Road location and I have always had good service. read more

Sonny's is what it is. Food is obviously frozen-- I say this first hand as I was served my meal with the meat still frozen. Twice. There are so many great BBQ restaurants in town that are local (not chain), better priced, and don't use frozen meat... please try them instead. read more

Very poor service through the drive thru today. Took 15 minutes before receiving our food. Never asked a single car to pull forward to wait. The car behind me at the window even pulled out and left. The girl didn't seem to care. The bbq salad was very shy on ingredients unlike any other location I have purchased. They also stuck the pork on top of lettuce to get cold and the grilled onions as well for them to get soggy. Other locations put the two in a separate container. The ranch dressing was as thin as water and only filled 2/3 the way. Won't be going there again any time soon. read more

Smoked dark meat chicken takes like grizzle and boiled. Pulled pork...is more like sliced ham....the brisket...tastes like wet meat. None of their products have a good smoke flavor, or even a quality smoke ring. Everything fro. The chicken to pork was as dry as paper.... Horrible....just horrible. read more
