    Sonic Drive-thru Menu

First off let me just say that I have not been to this Sonic in years even though I grew up in Anthony due to living in a city. I am a regular Sonic app user so I chose to place an order and pick it up. Tonight I ordered a large strawberry shake, medium chocolate shake, a chili dog with mustard and onions, a medium Butterfinger Blast with added M&M candies, and a free medium tater tots via the app. The order took about fifteen minutes to prepare after I checked in at the stall through the app. It was quite a long wait in my opinion. When I did receive the order the car hopper did not provide me with a drink carrier for the shakes or a spoon for my blast so I had to ask him in order to not have to juggle and accidentally drop anything. He was polite but I did not catch his name. The food was decent and the portions were good but I felt that the Butterfinger Blast didn't have much Butterfinger in it but more of an overload of M&Ms. I hope my next order is better prepared and does not take as long.

    Always get mushy tots, ridicoulus!!!

You can also customize you if you prefer. I got the fudge brownie bliss and they were generous with the brownies (my favorite part). Caliche's design feels retro, there is no indoor seating but the cold treat can be enjoyed in your vehicle or standing in the shade. The employees were quick and nice. I would appreciate if they could take your order and deliver your treat to and from your car.

We rolled up on a hot night and left with sticky fingers, happy hearts, and absolutely no regrets. I ordered the Mango Dango with pistachios and added green chile (yes, chile on dessert--trust me). It was the perfect combo of creamy, spicy, tangy, and sweet. That frozen custard is so silky it should come with a warning label. And the chile? Just enough heat to remind you you're in New Mexico. We also got The Gizmo, and it lived up to the name--layers of fudge, caramel, salted pecans, and whipped cream madness. So yummy! If you're passing through Las Cruces, skip the chain spots and find your way to Caliche's. Your tastebuds will thank you.

Also, there's generally a crowd sitting outside, enjoying their sweet treat of choice. Luckily the weather tends to cool down and there's a breeze in the evening to make this super enjoyable. And it's not your thing they conveniently have a drive-through also. I love the specials that they offer and I always forget that there's hot dogs and other food options. We got a kiwi berry sundae. The custard is great and the sundae was simple with fresh kiwis and strawberries and it was topped with cream. It was delicious. We also got a dirty soda. The special sprite is like Sonic's ocean water...only better. Add vanilla and blueberries to the sprite and coconut. There were so many blueberries and they came through the straw making it even more fun to drink. It was refreshing and delicious. The service was great and they were super quick. We loved our experience here. It was a great dessert stop.

I thought it would be weird for kids at night, but no, they made us feel welcome like everyone else there. The kids LOVED the process of making the ice cream; it was like a magic show to them! I pointed out the line that distributed the liquid nitrogen to the 3 mixers, and yes they are quite loud. It's all part of the experience though since it fogs up and the coolness factor is upped with the fog and sounds. If you've never experienced nitrogen anything like cold brew, ice cream etc, yes it can be jarring. I would suggest that they have signs posted or warn when they're about to start mixing to let the uninitiated know. The ice cream itself is amazing. Custom made in small artisanal batches, you'll never get the same since they mix it right in front of you, kinda like an omakase bar. I think the milk fat percentage is like 15%-25% because the alcohol added cuts through the taste and can be overwhelming without that creaminess. You can have it with or without alcohol and of course the kids loved their Cookie Monster (cookies and cream) and berry shaved ice, without alcohol of course. I got a Cool Brew with Kahlua and it was sooo smooth! Really delicious and will wake you up! Ice creams run around $8 for 3 ingredients and the named ones are between $10-$13, which is really good considering they have alcohol in them and it's strong. They don't skimp on flavor or ingredients here. I didn't see the food menu until later but I'm excited to try their fried pickles. My kids were getting antsy by then and we needed to go. This was such a fun and unique experience and I love that it's in El Paso, vs Austin or OC. Really cool concept and they actually delivered with the taste. Come out and support local!
