I hired Sonbright to seal my travertine lanai and pool deck. Big mistake.
They first sent out a guy to pressure wash the deck. The pressure he used was so strong that sand was blasted from between the tiles all over the deck. They then sealed the deck trapping the sand underneath. They then brought the pressure wash guy back again to try to remove the top layer of sealer and get rid of the gritty sand. That seemed to work pretty well and they cleaned up the grit that was all over the pool enclosure.
The travertine while it was sealed with the water-based sealant looked like naked stone and had no color to it at all. We wanted a wet look. And sonbright said that they would talk to the sealer company and see what could be used to add a wet looking finish. I was told that the only thing that could be used over the water-based sealant was a solvent-based sealer to add the wet look. Because of the problems we had had so far I was told that the sealer would be applied at cost of materials only.
It turned out that the sealer used cost $147 at Lowe's but we were charged $1250. Almost ten times as much as the actual cost.
Then they applied the sealer to the deck .The area around the pool came out pretty good but the Lanai area was a disaster. After applying the sealer, he walked through sections of it and then attempted to redo it and remove the footprints He put it on too thick and didn't spread it evenly And it gave a puddling effect. We ended up with a large number of tiles covered with thick globules of sealer. He said that there was nothing that could be done to fix it and told me not to post a negative review because he would take legal action against us. Well, here is the truthful review. I would never hire them to do anything. read more
