I was a little nervous when I arranged for 15 senior executives to have corporate headshot photos…read moretaken through someone I found on the web and this intensified into fear when I took one of the execs to the studio. We rounded a corner to see a burned out Range Rover sitting outside of what appeared to be a derelict building. After some searching we found a buzzer for Studio 25 and entered a building which didn't look much better on the inside. Tony Thornton took the photos, chatting away and putting my exec at ease. He was so friendly that we were able to forget about the fact that we were sitting in a horrible, grotty space. The next day Tony was scheduled to arrive at our office to take the remaining photos. He turned up on time, got set up quickly and finished the job in the very short space of time he'd been given. The CD of photos arrived one week later and they were perfect. Tony had matched the backgrounds of the photo taken at his studio with the ones taken in our office so well that you would never know they were taken in two different locations, with differing light. His friendly style clearly had a positive effect on everyone as there were several people who clearly did not want to have their photos taken, but looked perfectly happy and relaxed in the finished product. The upshot is that my boss was really impressed with the work Tony did for us (so I got brownie points for having set everything up), but she was especially happy with the price - £150 for set up then £50 per person.

I've never been in a real photography studio before. But I like it. And specifically, I like this one. Everything is thought about. The workbenches are all on wheels which makes styling easier (see? I've been on a photoshoot, I can say things like 'styling'). The natural light in the upstairs studio is excellent - skylights as well as large windows. But the blinds are also adjustable, and they adjust to one camera stop each time (Very Good Thing). Howard's studio is downstairs, and he has an awful lot of props to play with, although it's difficult to bother him while he's working. But you've got lots of pretty things in your studio as well. It's a really well put together place. I have no idea how much photography studios cost to hire. My guess is £lots. But this one is good. Having spent two days in here, I can confirm that it's so well laid out about carefully thought through, it made our job easier. After a 10 hour day, that's a massive plus point on an already beautiful venue.
