The first thing I should mention is that I don't like Bed and Breakfasts for several reasons:…read more1. Breakfast is my least favorite meal typically 2. I enjoy my privacy 3. I enjoy my anonimity 4. I hate kitschy homes 5. I hate other people's mess/dirt/filth So bearing all of this in mind, I have to tell you about Le Petit Palais, because it ended up being an experience that helped me overcome all of my aversions to BnB's. Le Petit Palais is the creation of Gilles, a French expat who lives in Buenos Aires in the most charming multi-story house in a quiet residential neighborhood in Palermo. The location is outstanding because it is close enough to local transport options (train, bus, taxi) and is also walkable. Gilles is a consummate host, but more than that he is a designer and he has created a 5 bedroom experience at Le Petit Palais which every guest leaves appreciating him for. Upon arriving Gilles welcomes each guest (he met me at 1am because my connecting flight was late) and explains the keys and security to the home. It is very secure! I chose a room that was on the bottom floor so it was quite private which suited me, although it might be the smallest in the house, for a solo traveler it was ideal and had excellent wifi and internet service. My room had a small shower and toilet, a safe in the closet to keep valuables and ample room for my luggage and clothing as well as a desk, two nightstands and a very large and comfortable bed. Additionally, for those arriving in summer or winter there is a large fan and a radiator as well as double-glazed windows to protect you from noise from the street (it's not a noisy street but still) and heat/cold. Other reviewers have mentioned Gilles breakfast so I should say that what I love most about his breakfast is that it has reasonable hours - from 8am to 10pm. So I was able to sleep in until 9:45am and still be able to enjoy it. Also, as mentioned above, breakfast is not my jam, but the spread that is provided at Le Petit Palais was excellent. Typical breakfast includes eggs, croissants, jams, tea, coffee, and a homemade yogurt prepared by Gilles that is superb. Breakfast is also a good time to meet other travelers and exchange information on things to do and see in Buenos Aires and Gilles is also very helpful and informative in that way. I enjoy the fact that Gilles has definite opinions and knows what people would enjoy because he himself is not Argentinean. In addition to the great value of staying here, I think the decor and the cleanliness were the greatest positive attributes. Rooms are cleaned 3-4 times a week, but I felt like Le Petit Palais was spotless and my room was tidied up for me on a daily basis over the course of my 7 night stay. I am not sure if I will stay in another bed and breakfast in another city in the future because I am still weary of this kind of an arrangement. I prefer Airbnb apartments or hotels in other cities, but in Buenos Aires there is no doubt in my mind that I will stay at Let Petit Palais again and no other place, it is simply the best of its kind.
