If I could give this "hotel" zero starts I would. We were 4 adults and 3 small children traveling around Puerto Rico for 2 weeks. We wanted to see the whole island, so we were booking hotels either same day or the day before depending on what city we happened to be in. Around the 4th of July we were near Ponce, so we decided to stay at Solace by the Sea. I looked at their website and read their reviews which were decent, so I booked two rooms for check in same day. When we arrived, the place looked a bit worse for wear, but knowing Hurricane Maria effected the island so heavily it did not concern me too much. During the check in process they told us that if we needed to keep anything refrigerated we could leave it with them and they pointed to a mini refrigerator behind the front desk. At that point it did not click that if I wanted a cold bottle of water in the middle of the night I would have had to leave a bottle at the front desk already and then walk 300 feet from the back of the hotel thru an open unlit walkway to get it. I was also taken aback when they handed me actual keys for our rooms not key cards. I thought it was a security concern since anyone could have made copies of these keys in the past and easily gone into our room while we were out for the day. As we walked towards our room we passed chair swings and patio furniture that were completely shredded, but still out for guest use. You could see all the yellow filling spilling out of it. We continued to our rooms feeling more hesitant. We had 1 room on the 1st floor and one on the 2nd floor. Normally it would not be a problem to walk up the stairs to the 2nd floor, when you have a bad knee and 3 young children it's a hassle to haul 3 large suitcases up the stairs. When I arrived to my 2nd floor room it smelled like a heap of damp clothes that has been sitting around for days. The bathtub looked as if someone had taken a chisel to it. The tv had a total of 13 channels with only 2 that could be watched, the rest either had no sound, a loud humming sound or were scrambled. I went to check the room the rest of our party was staying in on the 1st floor and it was just as bad. We immediately went to the front desk and they offered us a different room which was identical. The front desk told us they had no other rooms available. At this point I requested our reservations be cancelled because we would not be staying, and they told us that we would still be charged for the stay since we would have need to cancel the reservation 48 hours to check in. I explained that the reservation was made the same day through their website and that I we had just checked in and they still said they could do nothing about it. I asked to speak to a manager and when she came out she told us the same thing. She even stated that because we signed the paperwork at check in we could do nothing about it. I explained to the manger everything with the rooms, the shredded patio furniture, the safety concern and all she did was offer us the "executive suite". To humor her we went to check out the suite and it smelled the same way, the tv still did not work and there were two golf ball size holes in the walls. Again, I said we would not be staying, and she was still adamant that the reservation would not be canceled and that we would be charged for it because that was there policy. I rarely write reviews. But this is needed. I booked this place on a whim last minute. And I really hate to knock a business, but if the people running it don't care about their guests, why should I feel bad for having a horrible experience . First off , DO NOT GO BY PHOTOS of this place when booking. It looks nothing like the pictures at all. Especially Expedia. But looks are the least of the problems. Waited hours for check in, ok , fine. I'll go grab a drink or something to eat. PLACE DOESNT SERVE DRINKS OR FOOD ON WEEKDAYS! seriously?? Ok...fine. Finally get to room, shower is definitely needed after this day.... NO RUNNING WATER!!! Finally fixed after couple hours. I'll just lay down and watch tv.. TV DOESNT WORK. Horrible experience and staff was not friendly at all. I would never recommend this place at all. If you know your business is horrible, do something about it. One night was needed as we were passing through Ponce late Room was reserved online through a third party site, they didn't get notice of reservation, so staff was called to get room ready. After thirty minutes we did get a room and it was clean TV had power with two local channels available to watch. Mattresses are very firm. The two employees who went above and beyond were Ricardo and Candi. All I can say had a situation that could have been taken care of quickly but it seems the employees cannot make final decision unless management say so. But they were not there and management lied to my face saying they were looking for me, and they walked my me three times. Wasted a whole evening. The General manager didn't help the situation, the next morning when I was checking out. Was offered a free night I wouldn't stay there again. If you need a place to rest your head for ONE night and there is no other place stay. The pool filter doesn't seem to be working properly. If you are familiar with Ponce, it's where the old Tuque was. No has scenery. I can't post pictures because I was too busy trying to fix my problem. read more

This Hotel is rated by Expedia and American Airlines 5 Stars. These companies rating departments are so so so wrong. The rating should be one star. I'm presently staying here. No hot water. Bugs in room. Beds very hard. Television only has one channel working. Room coffee maker without coffee and cups. Door room opens and closes almost ramming to move. Do I say more at $156 a night. I really don't know where to start... I found this hotel on Travelocity while booking our vacation package ... after arriving in san Juan and having to drive to ponce 1 1/2 hr. We checked in in about 9 pm tired and hungry with a cranky toddler ... At check inn nothing was explained, but there is no smoking ... once i was handed the key !!! Yes A key Not a scan card !!! i was already feeling a way ... As we walked threw the dark path to the stairs which was a nightmare because of the luggage ,, We got to our room which had the wet towel smell ... to our surprise the there was no microwave or mini fridge ... the pictures on there web site as well as Travelocity are from when from they fist opened so now i have a diabetic whos medication needs to be refrigerated and a toddler who will not have cold juice or milk... I have never been to a hotel that does not have a mini fridge nor microwave ... And to think this place says family and child friendly .. What a lie !!! i tried to shower and the tub was dirty and there way black wads of hair on top of the drain ,,, i did a whole video of it ... the tub mat was stained as well as the tub ... there was only two towels and not a wash rag in site .. and to think the reservation said 4 people so do they think we share towels ? once up in the morning i patiently waited for the staff to come... i approached one of the cleaning girls for towels and cleaning products ... I Think she was already having a bad day or really hates her job... because the look that I was giving when I asked... it was a roll or the eyes sucking of the teeth and turnt up lip... she kept telling me there should be two towels and kept telling her there is 4 people !!! then when i asked for cleaning products she side eyed me ... so invited her in the room to show her the bath room she went back to the cart and handed me a cleaning product and rag !!!! like it was my job !!! ... That was it as soon as I finished scrubbing the bath room i started calling around for rooms .. either they were booked or the price was double of there normal rate ...even the Air BnB ... I rushed to Walmart to get our own towels and cleaning products and small cooler bag for the meds and the baby's juice.. once we arrived back at the hotel the ice box was locked ,, so i had to go to the gas station to get ice everyday ... we were even told by the workers that we could not have ice after i stood there and what her fill up a 20 gallon pail ,, that was original out side the hotel that was being used for trash !!!! .. PLEASE WHAT EVER YOU DO DONT STAY HERE ...THERE IS NO CIGARRET SMOKING ALLOWED BUT THE WE SEEN PEOPLE SMOKING HOOKER AROUND THE INSIDE POOL... THE POOLS ARE NOT CHLORINE IT THE RAIN WATER I BELIVE THAT FILLS THEM ... THE OUT DOOR FURNITURE HAS TO BE THERE BEFORE HURRICAN MARIA BECAUSE ITS IN BAD SHAPE WITH MISSING CUSIONS AND SMELLS LIKE IT WAS IN THE RAIN EVER SINCE .. NEEDLESS TO SAY ... If i could give it zero stars I would. Our party had reserved six rooms and all of them were horrible. The walls were dirty and they had water bubbles. The bed sheets were also dirty, had holes in them and a member of our party found a fingernail in her bed. There were barely any outlets and and if there were any they didn't work. The bathrooms were extremely small and when we first entered there was barely any toilet paper left as if the house keeper didn't change it after the people before us left. There wasn't any wifi and there was barley any signal. And the there was only cable TV and most of the channels don't work, were glitchy or there wasn't any sound. The pool was dirty and there were too many people we expected there to be a maximum capacity because of covid but there wasn't and there wasn't any supervision near the pool area. One of our party members found balloons in their room that the people staying there before them left that shows that the rooms aren't properly cleaned. The food was bad it they took too long to serve us the food. And the drinks tasted like they were old. The entrance fountain was extremely dirty and the paints were chipped. The pictures in the website looked nothing like what we saw. The price was too high for what it actually is. DONT RECOMMEND. read more
