They were accommodating and took our orders for the souffle pancakes first as we decided on the other dishes as we know those take 30 minutes. Chicken Kaarage - Good appetizers to share with the group Creme Brulee Souffle Pancakes - Group's favorite souffle pancakes. Fluffy and airy souffle pancakes with a light custard. Matcha Souffle Pancakes - This was the second favorite. The Matcha flavor shines through. Mango Sago Souffle Pancakes - This was the most disappointing one. Mango sago is my favorite Cantonese dessert and this missed the mark. There was not enough mango flavor and the sago did nothing for the dish. Boba Milk Tea Croissant Cube - This was the biggest nightmare to eat, let alone share with the table. First time having soufflé pancakes and boy have I been missing out! They are so light and fluffy, like biting into a pancake cloud. I tried the "Very Matcha" flavor and my friend got the "Crème Brûlée" one. Both came with a side of yummy soft serve ice cream. We also split a chicken karaage don, which was sort of like a bibimbap with chicken, cucumbers, seaweed, and an egg over nutritious rice - it was delicious! Have you ever walked into an establishment where you instantly realized something is "off" but you just can't seem to find a way to extricate and re-evaluate your decision, and you just want the experience to be over as soon as possible? For me I call it "pulling a Heather" after one of my blind dates that went so badly that I felt like on a knife's edge for weeks afterwards - it wasn't entirely the looks (oh, I'll explain that one shortly) but the basics (the conversation turned into how she wants a big family), the details (eh, I appeared on the lock screen wallpaper on her iPhone?) and her cousin (a former coworker buddy who thought I was perfect for her). When I walked into softBite my first reaction was "oh god, it is Heather all over again". So what was wrong? Well, I call it the asian cafe inverse pink rule, a variation of my inverse Mexican rule: the more the establishment spends on decor, the less likely it'll be good on food and services. The worst Mexican places I've been to had goofy lights, Corona banners, Sombreros and Mariachi outfits all over, like they are trying to visually convince you that they are a real Mexican joint despite flavorless rice, dull mole, stale protein in the Enchiladas, lousy service, and etc. To follow the same logic, mediocre asian cafes seems to spend more money on decor than the soft product (food and service) - and the more desperate they are, the more likely they will postrate to the goddess Pantone 182. Now there's nothing wrong with decor per-se, some of the more memorable cafes I go to (Kado on the south side of Osaka, Replika in Montreal, Devocion in Flatiron) exude a sense of style with easy self-confidence about them - it's a reflection of the owner's taste, and not some need to chase Instagram influenza - pastel pink, delibrately fluffy merch, fake flowers, "designer" cutlery or ceramic dishes trying to create that "perfect photo" or whatever - which only works if you are eternally pandering to 16 year old girls. Well, to continue the story of my blind date, she did play off her tomboyish looks by trying to pull off a female tux. Now don't get me wrong...ladies can look good wearing a tux...just check out Masami Nagasawa on Vaundy's music video for "Todome no Ichigeki", but in this case, she had on a pink tux that made her look more like a mix between Detective Conan (the anime boy detective) and a pink penguin, and I am not sure if I should walk her to the train...or call social services and have them collect a missing boy after that disastrous date was over. I literally avoided Southwestern Brooklyn for years on end, and inexplicably my buddy thought the date went well based on her feedback. It took some Herculean effort to make him realize that I was traumatized by her first impressions. Supposedly it was her aunt's work outfit (as a what? Harvey Milk Kindergarten teacher?) and some really truly terrible dating advice from her cousins, but yeah, not meant to be. So, eh, Softbite. Was the decor good? eeeeh it was very Heather-like. Cozy...but really hard for a guy to take a lady here repeatedly (think Serendipity 3 except with an even bigger girl-cave vibe). How was the food? Eh, I had better Kissaten (Japanese cafe) food, I had cheaper kissaten food, and it was definitely one of the meals that I ever had. I just can't say that it was remarkable since I didn't get that much for the price, and whatever I got (curry katsudon, mentaiko pasta) wasn't memorable. The matcha drinks? It was pretty but it was also unremarkable. The souffle pancakes? Eh, it was flavorless - like foamy mush. Service is kinda indifferent, not unfriendly but also not attentive. I guess what threw me over the edge was how remarkably hostile the silverware set on the table was - the weight on that golden cutlery set was unbalanced, the spoon felt weird to use (doesn't seem to fit a human mouth), and the fork felt like it might fly off my hands due to its odd bottom heavy balance). This was my second time visiting here and I got mentaiko pasta with yuzu sparkling!!! Their food and drinks are just steadily amazing. I wouldn't worry at all to order anything from this place because I know they'll come out just perfectly! The service and ambiance are very nice too. I was in for a pleasant surprise when I saw how modern and cute their whole setup was. They even had an adorable flower cart indoors for those who wanted to purchase some blooms! It was only half full inside when we went around 3 p.m. on a weekend, so we had no issues grabbing a table. The menu can be found by scanning the QR code on the table, but everyone in my party had to wait a while for it to load. The menu was bigger than I would've thought, with plenty of drink options, desserts/pastries that are more than just souffle pancakes, and savory appetizers and mains?! We chose to only order desserts from here but I wouldn't mind trying the other food: Mochi Matcha Croissant Cube $10 Much tinier than it looked on the menu. We were expecting the size of the ice cream toasts from Prince Tea House, but the cube was only about 4" x 4". Also, it was absurdly hard to cut?! It took three people and a load of knives and forks to break it apart. That aside, the matcha sauce was insanely delicious. The cube tasted like a tougher croissant but still captured the flavors of a croissant. 8/10 Yuzu Sundae w/ Matcha & Vanilla Swirl soft serve $9 The sundae came with three choices for toppings: boba, yuzu, and strawberry. Yuzu called out to us and sounded more special. It's also very popular in Japan right now, so might as well jump on the bandwagon! For the soft serve flavor, we asked for matcha and vanilla swirl. However, the matcha sauce is very good. You get to choose the soft serve flavor; I opted for matcha and vanilla swirl. I like how they put the soft serve in a little cup so that it's easier to lap up any melted ice cream. Appreciated the mochi bits on top of the pancakes and the pocky sticks and oreo dust for the soft serve. But I don't know if that's the usual toppings for the matcha or if it's random. 8/10 *dine-in only Ube Sparkles Soufflé Pancakes $16 If you are a fan of ube, go for this one. I don't care for ube so I liked the matcha version more. It was cute how they used star sprinkles on this one. The interior, including the bathroom, was impressively clean and well kept, with what is most likely LED lighting strips for a extra cozy atmosphere. Even the choice of dish ware was unique and added to the cutness factor, despite one of our cups having a split-wood handle. Staff was oddly persistent on getting us to order (there was a large party behind us, and a few stragglers in the main room) but was very kind nonetheless. I enjoyed browsing the menu! I know that might be a bit strange, but as someone who loves looking at the little details in graphic design, the font and images chosen for the menu was lovely and really captured the overall feel of the store. I'd have to say the prices were quite high for the portions I'd receive later on, and the quality of the food was a tad short of what I'd think to pay for. Notably, my soup was missing the nori flakes and scallions as depicted in the menu... I also would've thought the shrimp tempura would come with some sauce but that's me being a little picky. Presentation of the food was immaculate though. Most were exactly what was depicted inside the online menu and I was fairly impressed with their ube options (especially their new latte). I've been eyeing this new dessert/cafe spot in LIC but left with major disappointments. We were excited to go in and see that the place was very spacious and well decorated, and that there were many seats inside. However, just like many other reviews, we had to wait about 20 minutes until we gave up and went to the cashier to ask to take our order. The order was taken right away, but most of the savory dishes we wanted were available because they ran out of ingredients.. but the worst part was that it took WAY TOO LONG to get our orders. We ordered two drinks, and they came out about 55 minutes since we had gotten seated. And mind you, we saw that other tables that came AFTER us were getting their drinks and food before us, so we had to go up to the barista to check up on our order, and saw that that is when she started making our drinks. Then, we had to wait another 20 minutes to get our souffle pancake. But when they finally brought it out, it was the wrong order (happened to be for the customers across us who came about 30 minutes after us as I saw the server bring it back to the kitchen then bring out the same plate to those customers). So we had to wait ANOTHER 15-20 minutes to get the right souffle pancake. But when we got it, the ice cream and the cream on the pancake were already half melted. The souffle pancake felt undercooked; it wasn't fluffy. The boba was chewy and well sweetened, and it was sad that I was only enjoying the boba. This has to be one of the worst customer services I have received in awhile. I thought that since this is a NEW cafe that opened, they would be more aware and take extra measures to make sure that the customers are happy. But the fact that I had to wait for even a drink for almost an hour, while seeing the customers who came after me get their orders first and even LEAVE before me, while constantly asking our server if our order is coming out soon, is just not okay. And when we asked for the check, he even made a comment saying that the wait was even longer during the afternoon (we came around 4pm on a Sunday) and that some people waited about 2 hours for their pancakes. That comment did not make us feel any better about the service we received. This place is really cute - I walked by this place a few times before a friend invited me to go. They had a really cute flower booth stand in the front and the employees seemed happy to be there. There is a little bit of waiting time for the food but it comes out really cute and is definitely photogenic. We stayed in Queens and we were walking around our hotel to digest and see what's arohnd the area and stumbled upon this little spot. It was cute on the outside and caught my eyes. Service was great, got me a seat really quick and I was offered a paper menu. I was curious about the tonkotsu because the picture in someone else's review was very appetizing, but I went with the Very Matcha pancake and the Hojicha soft serve. Apparently they have two flavors that get changed every other week, and this week it was Vanilla and Hojicha. The menu says to please allow atleast 20min for the pancakes to be ready since it is made to serve. The seats are so comfy, and the interior is very bright and inviting, while also calm and chill. The Hojicha ice cream is so good, it had a slightly roasted tea flavor, mix of green tea and Hojicha tea flavor as well. The consistency was very nice, a perfect soft serve, kind of tacky and not overly soft to where it's melting. The sweetness is not overpowering and balances the tea flavor nicely. The matcha sauce on the pancakes is slightly bitter and earthy, but in a way that works really well. However, the pancake was a little too soft, almost a bit soggy. Pretty disappointed that this place is known for their pancakes but the pancake was the least impressive. I tried parts of the pancake that wasn't covered in the sauce to see if the sauce made the pancake soggy, but it was still kind of wet and soft, maybe I got a bad batch? Considering they're only been open for little over a month I can understand why things might've been rough in the beginning but it's clear to me that they're sorted everything out since then because service was smooth. The cafe itself is really cute and the pancakes didn't take as long as the menu said to prepare (30-40 min). Probably a means to manage expectations. Tried this place out after all the Instagram posts/video. It has a cute interior with ample seating both indoors and outdoors. We ordered a Hojicha Latte, Sparking Yuzu, and a Softbite Creme Pancake. I wanted to love Softbite but every time I've gone I feel like I wasn't able to get myself to love it. I will start with the positives - the interior is beautiful. Everything is white, there is an abundance of seating, and the service is great. You can find your drinks ranging from $6 and higher and your desserts ranging from $10 and higher. When it first opened and I tried the souffle matcha pancake I was disappointed. I didn't feel the souffle pancake was flavorful enough and the inside was very watery. However, this was when they first opened so it might've changed. This place is freaking cute and has fantastic food - it's very much a vibe. Here's the deal: this is definitely one of those highly Instagrammable places that's designed to be cute and appealing. The vast majority of the food is soft and cute, thus the name. There are croissant cubes (cute!), soufflé pancakes (also cute!), bubble teas (also cute!), and the like. The tastes are all delicate - there's nothing really on the menu that's gonna punch you in the face. Imagine a restaurant run by some anime girl or something. That said, be warned - this isn't a fast food restaurant, it's definitely meant to be a sort of slow/relaxed café. Soufflé pancakes and similar dishes take a long time to cook/bake, so don't come here in a rush. I enjoy that immensely - you probably will too, pending you have the time. read more

Traveled out to Queens to meet a friend and try their Soufflé Pancakes. The restaurant itself was quiet, nicely decorated and had a fun, comfortable vibe to it. The staff were very attentive and friendly. The food was really good. I'm not sure souffle pancakes are entirely my thing, but I enjoyed them, and love the spin on traditional pancakes and breakfast pastries. I did really love their taro mixed ice cream. This little, cute spot in LIC is becoming one of my favorite place for brunch! This is my second time here. The rating I would give is 4.5/5 over all. Service is great. The food has been consistently good, I would say that Mentaiko Udon is my least favorite, a little too fishy for my liking. It isn't terrible but it's my least favorite. It's definitely a must try! When you visit here make sure to try their soufflé pancakes! I love them! read more

Great food and service. Got seated within 5 mins without much wait, unlike similar restaurant across the street. The Japanese pancake was amazing and fluffy with ice cream on the side - fully satisfied my craving. Savory food was high quality also. I had their Karage - very tender and just the right bite size, with wasabi mayo that added to the flavor. I had their dirty matcha, which was the first time I saw it in NYC - basically mixing expresso shot, matcha shot, and milk. I thought the coffee taste was overwhelmed by the matcha, but nonetheless worth trying if you never had it before! read more

First food destination upon arrival in New York. I've been drooling looking at photos of Japanese souffle pancakes ever since I learned about them. Unfortunately, there is literally not a single place that serves it in all of Seattle area where I'm from and I do not dare to attempt to make such a delicate dessert. There's only 3 places I've found that offer them in a highly dense city like New York, which tells you how laborious it is for any restaurant to want to add it to their menu. The other 2 places are in Manhattan which would have been easier to get to since we were staying there, but we wanted an excuse to check out the Long Island City neighborhood and came to Softbite. Cute little cafe with aesthetic desserts and brunch food. Of course, what are we here for, the main star souffle pancakes!!! As the server was placing the plate down on our table, the pancake was so soft and bouncy that it was jiggling like girls with booty in rap music videos, that's how jiggly it was. I was almost afraid to poke at it and have it get deflated. The texture was what I expected upon biting into it, very light and airy. It took me to heaven. There's a whole section of souffle pancakes to choose from, we ordered the softbite creme pancake just so there would be fruits on it. This is an Instagram dessert spot, through and through. Overpriced but cutesy and has colorful desserts. Everyone is there clearly to take photos and the decorations support that dream. Staff is nice enough and they make the desserts nice and hot right when you order. read more

The fried chicken was horrendous, the inside looks like gravy & tendons. The pancakes were fine but they basically taste like eggs, the ube sauce was flavorless. The ube ice cream was wonderful. The latte was great. Not easy on the stomach. Go to rule of thirds in BK. read more
