Even the salad had a fresh crunch and came with a beautiful orchid on top. Everything on the plate was fresh, well-seasoned, and presented with care. Can here on a whim, on a Monday around 5 pm. This takeout / dine corner spot, feels like a hole in the wall, but might come close to a gem in the wall. I ordered a lamb / steak combo, and the food was exceptionally succulent, and satisfying. You could tell that much love went into the preparation and presentation of the food. I noticed quite a few people getting food to go, I'm glad I dined in, but to go is understandable. Looking forward to my next experience here. read more

Was looking for solid Mediterranean food when visiting my parents in Monterey park. Tried this place due to the good Yelp reviews and I was not disappointed. If you like lamb, this is the place. Full stop. The most juicy, tender, flavorful lamb chops. The chicken and beef kabobs are well seasoned and tasty. Truthfully everything there is going to be a choice that you won't be upset about.. but the lamb chops are phenomenal. Great quality, generous portions, and excellent value. Rewriting this because the OWNER CALLED ME A LIAR!!!! So, I went to this Persian restaurant, right? I ordered the chicken, and it seemed fine at first. But later, I got seriously sick - definitely food poisoning. The really annoying part is that when I wrote this review. The owner, who's also persian basically called me a liar. He acted like I was making it up or something. It just sucks because you'd think he'd be concerned, especially since we share a similar background. The food was good, I would say that it is a little long wait. I got the chicken shawarma wrap combo and the portions are generous. A bunch of fries and a massive shawarma. Everything well seasoned and delicious, 8.5/10. My mom got the chicken shish kabobs, she rated it 8/10 "the flavor was good, I wish they had oil and vinegar to drizzle on top of the chicken. The server was nice and the ambiance was nice. I would have liked a little more grilled veggies." The total came out to about 40 dollars for two people, I don't think that's bad. My friend suggested this place for lunch and we are always willing to try new places. The food was DELICIOUS. He said this is as close to his moms homemade food that he's tried out here. I don't eat meat so opted for the falafel plate. It was so good! The rice was a nice balance of sweetness added and the falafel was a nice blend of seasonings (some places just give you a bland falafel!) The service was decent, we probably waited around 15 mins for our food to be ready. During that time there were a handful of others coming to order so seems like this place is frequented by many others. Their outside patio was comfortable and a nice spot to have lunch with friends. A great Persian restaurant in the heart of East LA. I ordered the chicken and beef koobideh kebab combo plate, and a yogurt drink to try. The koobideh had good flavor, the salad was light/refreshing, rice was cooked perfectly, and the hummus was probably my favorite part. Portions are generous. Lemon wedge was greatly appreciated. Personally the koobideh texture a little sponge-ish/springy (?) compared to other Middle Eastern restaurants I've had, but still very flavorful. The yogurt drink was labeled "BB Nov 26 2023:" I think BB means 'best by' and I visited on Dec 12 2023...I still want to try their Ghormeh Sabzi, so I'll be back. The staff is very friendly and efficient. You're given a pager that buzzes when your order is ready. The outdoor patio spaces are charming thanks to the decor and furniture. Having grown up in East LA, it's nice seeing new, diverse food options in the area and Sofreh sets a wonderful precedent, giving them an extra star in my book. read more

My order was the Chicken Lule Entree which comes w/ green salad, lightly drizzled with a vinaigrette dressing, rice, roasted veggies, and lavash. Priced at $22, I thought it was fair for the entree. Food was beautifully plated but I thought the chicken was a bit salty. It's tough to find Mediterranean food locally, and authentic at that. The plates here are flavorful, filling, and freshly made. The salad tasted refreshing to eat and balanced out the other flavors in the plate. I also liked how the grape leaves weren't too sour compared to when I tried them at other restaurants. Some downsides to the restaurant are the prices and parking. These plates were on the pricier side, but I didn't mind it that much. The part that killed me was when I ordered tzatziki, they brought out 1 very small cup of it and it costed $7... Parking also looked like a nightmare. If I had been the one driving, I wouldn't have even bothered stopping by. In conclusion, personally I don't think I'd be back mostly bc of its inconvenient location and prices. I've been a customer since Sofreh opened. Distinguished by quality, freshness, and flavor. It has never been bargain food but it was fairly priced considering the quality. Within this previous year over several orders, I have experienced a lack of attention to detail. The protein portions are dry, maybe overcooked or recooked but it's a significant difference. Prices have increased by approximately 47%, for example the chicken lover offering was $42.99 and is currently $59.99 far over the rate of inflation. I agree everything is now more expensive but not at a 47% increase. Additionally the portions, particularly of rice are also significantly less. This is very noticeable from the perspective of a long time customer. Unfortunately I've also experienced mistakes with my orders and although rectified, I either had to wait for a prolonged period or I've opted not to accept the corrective action so my family and I can enjoy our meals together. On two occasions I ended up just eating what was received and gave up my plate to my wife on one occasion and with the other mishap I switched with my daughter because they didn't like the mistaken order received. Sofreh no longer meets expectations of quality and attention to details. I wish Sofreh well and hope they meet your expectations, but with other options of Mediterranean restaurants nearby, I will take my business elsewhere. My most recent order was today Friday 8/29/25. Great food! My coworker and I stopped by for lunch and ordered the sofreh kabob tray for 3 people and it was delicious. I enjoyed the chicken, the rice especially and the side of baba ghanoush. Everything came out fresh! We had a catering order for the next day and the cashier Aime was very helpful with us. She answered all of our questions.
