Doesn't look like much, but you can't beat Mexican authenticity. I've only had the tacos but they were so flavorful and delicious. Be careful rationing the green salsa, so fresh and spicy you'll finish the little cups before you're done with your meal! read more

This was my first time here as we live in Hawaii. There isn't anything like Sofia's there. It was recommended by friends who live nearby. The food was delicious. The pupusas were so yummy! I've been a regular customer for 2 years. The location is convenient, it's nearby me and the laundromat is right beside the restaurant. I also love supporting family-owned businesses. The employees are generally nice. I usually order the chicken quesadillas. However, sometimes the chicken is burnt. Or they put an excessive amount of cheese in it to the point that I have to remove so much of it and it becomes inedible. I understand that they get busy at certain hours and they may be in a rush to make the food sometimes. In general, I recommend trying this restaurant out. They have a variety of Latin food and drinks to choose from. Maybe try some of their other entrées and eat your food seated inside the restaurant, so if you have any issues with your food you can let them know. read more

Hubby and I live around the corner, and I'm sorry to say I was skeptical of this place for some time. Sandwiched between a 7-11 and a used car dealership, the outside is fairly unassuming (read: sketchy) - but don't let that deceive you. The food is delicious!! Hubby loves hole in the wall joints and had tried (and raved about) their tacos and pupusas for some time. After finally trying a steak taco that he brought home recently, I was a believer. I've since visited the restaurant myself, and can't begin to express how happy I am to have a *legit* taco place 2 minutes from our house. We stopped by last night and ordered tacos (steak, chorizo and carnitas) and a pork pupusa. Everything was fantastic (love those tortillas and the spicy green sauce), but the standout was the carnitas...SO tender and juicy, mmhhmmm. The chorizo was a tad greasy, but I'd order it again in a heartbeat. The interior is no-frills, but looked to be clean. The ladies behind the counter were friendly, and they bring your food out to you. Will absolutely be returning - and lucky if I only manage to go once a week... I believe this place is Peruvian NOT Mexican. First, let me start off by saying the rotisserie chicken is the bomb! My girl had the steak tacos al carbon while I had the 1/4 rotisserie chicken and both of us really like the food here. The tacos were fresh and came with a "white" dipping sauce that was simply divine. I opted for the fries with my chicken. Swing and a miss... they were under-cooked. Had these wedge fries been crispy, I would have been in heaven. Should have opted for the Yuca instead. The exterior is far from inviting- you might even say it looks sketchy. Inside, the sparsely-decorated atmosphere is filled with Spanish-language radio (a bit too loud for my liking) and soccer games on TVs - reminds me of Los Angeles. I still prefer Steak & Chicken Las Brasas, but this place runs a close second - much better than El Pollo Loco. I would eat here again. read more

Looks a little sketchy from the outside and is kind of dirty on the inside but this place is great. Get steak baleadas (flour tortilla filled with steak, avocado, cheese, and sour cream) and a chorizo and egg taco. The flour tortillas are bomb. I actually meant to leave a review a while ago. This neighborhood gem is one of my go tos. It's not totally like heading to Honduras but probably as authentic as a restaurant in the US gets to Central American cuisine (they have baleadas!!). Definitely worth a stop! read more

I ordered 2 pork pupusa & 3 steak tacos. The taco were authentic and really tasty with verde sauce. Tacos came with limes included. The pork pupusa lacked flavor & i could only really taste the cheese. Warm and pillowy though, love the texture and intent. My boyfriend on the other hand got the chicken pupusa & that was super good, could tell the chicken was seasoned and grilled. OUT OF THIS WORLD tacos al carbon, served in a lovely corn tortilla with fresh pico de gallo made with cilantro and tomato. I got the lengua (tongue) which was hands down the best I've ever had, tender and marinated in a rich and deep sauce. The yuca con chicharones were $7.99 but if you had served them for $25 as "pork belly" in a Jose Andres restaurant, no one would bat an eye. I geeked out how good it was. The tamales are savory and rich and soft and thick and just moist enough to melt in your mouth. Oh, and the pupusas are, obviously, the star of the show. Everything is cheap, cheaper than it would be if this were not a perfectly clean but essentially unremarkable hole in the wall on Columbia Pike. The staff is professional and polite, and the counter service is fast and friendly. I'll be back here as many times as I can. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Sofia's serves food from all over Latin America. You can find Mexican food, Central American food, and South American food. The menu is enormous (they've added so many menu items that they have pieces of paper with additional dishes taped to the printed menu) and the interior seating is very spacious. Dining space and bathrooms are very clean too. This is a great place for groups, because they have lots of room and anyone can find something on the menu they like. Most of the people in the restaurant are from Central America, but everyone is super friendly and welcoming no matter where you're from. I usually order takeout and my food always comes very quickly. Things are going to be a bit more expensive than they might be at a food truck or at a much smaller pupuseria, but I think the sheer variety of the food here pushes it over the edge into 5-star territory. This place was great. The food was so good and they actually take the time to make it when you place your order. So, if you are in a rush it's not the place to go to at the time. I got the bean and cheese pupusas and they were amazing. My son got the taco platter and he loved the meat in the tacos. My husband also said the neat was well seasoned. Horrible customer service... I never do reviews, but I am taking that time to do it, because I want everybody to know that this is the worst place I have ever been. I was totally clear with my order, and they gave me everything wrong. I went back, let them know the mistake, but they told me that I was my mistake when I was pretty sure that I wasn't. I give this place 4 stars for several reason. I'll come here the food and convenience. Though I haven't tried most of their menu they have a pretty good variety of dishes from different countries. Food is pretty good considering the variety but don't know of their specialty yet. Price is a bit high for the food but considering the location it's not bad. Staff is friendly and food is authentic.
