First time coming here since we moved to the area. When we first walked in the hostesses were great, however, after we were sat it took a while for someone to come over and even ask us our drink order. We wanted several workers just in the wet bar area chatting and not paying attention. They finally walked out from behind the wet bar and walked by our table. We were about to get up and leave when finally a waitress came over to take our order. We gave our order and were finally given water. Food was okay but nothing in rushing back for. Margaritas have too much triple sec for my liking making it hard to drink. Could taste the tequila so I do appreciate that and it not being too much juice.

We really enjoyed our visit to Sofia's Tacqueria. A little skeptical going in, given the strip mall location replacing an old TGI Fridays. But the did a great job remaking the look, and the whole experience was great. First of all, it's nice to have a Mexican restaurant nearby with a liquor license - the jalapeño cucumber margarita hit the spot! All the food was excellent too - highlights were the blackened shrimp burrito and the birria tacos. Super friendly service as well.

We went as a family of 8. They were able to seat us relatively quickly despite being a large group. The waitress was not very attentive. We had to tell ask her a few times for a few items and the water was never filled. The kids meals are large but do not include a drink or rice/beans. The people that got the chicken enchiladas were unimpressed. It was filled too much with dry shredded chicken. I got the blackened chicken chimichanga. It was cheesy goodness. The pineapple mojito was a bust. They do a birthday celebration which is fun. The prices are fair too. The chips and salsa that they start with are great.

Just moved to the area and dined here for the first time. I was excited as the place looks so cute from the outside and loved all the decorations inside. We were welcomed and sat right away. Were served unlimited chips and salsa, which I agree with other reviews were quite good and can tell they were fresh. Ordered the Birria, they were just ok, I've definitely have had better. My other companions enjoyed their meals. The dessert was pretty good. Our waitress was a bit on the dry side, didn't smile much and seemed annoyed at times. The bus boys were nicer to us. It was a bit on the expensive side, but that's my opinion. Sadly, not sure that we will return.

We were pleasantly surprised to see the renovations from TGIFs to this beautifully designed restaurant. We were greeted and seated in super comfy benches and the decor was delightful. Their daily drink specials were very enticing. I got the Mexican cosmo and hubby opted for the sangria. The chips were super fresh and the salsa that comes to the table was excellent. We also got an order of guacamole which was yummy. From burritos to steak to empanadas-all was delicious.

A new Sofia's Taqueria location opened in Ledgewood a few months ago. This former TGI Friday spot has been remodeled nicely as a Mexican restaurant. I stopped in on a Friday night with my wife and stepson. I ordered the Adobo pork burrito which was very good. They need to serve it with more sour cream, but it was a tasty dish. My stepson had the Shrimp Ajillo which is the garlic shrimp with cilantro rice and my wife had one of the taco choices. We all thought the entrees were good, but the biggest hit was the Sophia's Secret Guacamole, that was excellent! The service here needs a bit of an improvement. I ordered a 2nd drink and it never came, and also they were too quick clearing the table before we even got our check. I can see us coming back here for drinks and appetizers at the bar. The frozen strawberry margarita was delicious!

We found sofias taqueria on line w great reviews n thought we'd try it on a Saturday for dinner. Lovely lively restaurant w plenty of parking. They brought us complimentary chips n salsa. Tasted good. So many items on menu and was a tough choice what to pick. We settled on mango habanero guacamole , pineapple salad n crispy wings. The guacamole tasted so good n was different. The salad was amazing w lots of green. Pineapple pieces and a tasty pineapple cilantro dressing. Did not taste the wings but I'm told it was good. The chicken tortilla soup was good for a cold evening. Was different but good. We had the carne asada w chorizo potato hash n rice n beans. The meat was v flavorful n the chorizo potato hash was really good. Generous portions. We polished off dinner w horchata flan - looked interesting - had cinnamon rice custard, salted caramel and cinnamon puffed rice. Tasted so good n we shared one. Tx u for a great dinner. Will be back again when we r craving Mexican food.

I was thrilled to see Sofia's open up in this location! It has plenty of parking in a lot. I went around 8pm on a Saturday and it was busy but I was seated quickly as a party of 2. Service was quick and friendly. We had the mole and chimichanga which were both tasty and came in big portions, which I thought were appropriate for the price. We just wished that the rice and beans came with the meal. I also really enjoyed the raspberry mango frozen margarita, which comes in many unique flavors! The vibe was also so energetic and fun inside! I'll definitely be back!

If we'd realized how new this place was, we would have given it a few more weeks to settle in. That's not an excuse for the uneven experience, but it certainly explains the avoidable extreme highs and lows. I came here with my top-tier chum on Saturday afternoon after watching the masterpiece Sinners in Rockaway and then making the hazardous trek down the sinkhole-influenced Route 46. We'd picked this place randomly without doing any type of research (including confirming its insanely recent grand opening) and located the brightly colored building very easily. Since it was mid-afternoon, it was fairly quiet though definitely a decent handful of customers scattered throughout the restaurant, and we were seated immediately at a high top table in the bar area. ...And that's where the wait began. It literally took 15 minutes for someone to come over to get our order, despite numerous staffers walking by, none with a sense of urgency. In hindsight, it seemed like the person assigned to our table wasn't there yet or something (we had a new person handling our service very early on) and they didn't know how to pivot quickly to get someone else over to us to start the ordering process. We also noted that the minute someone belatedly poured water for us and put some chips/salsa on the table, our temporary waiter immediately came by, which makes me think they have orders to wait for the chips before visiting. If true, absolutely insane. If your customers have been sitting there for more than 10 minutes without staff interaction, you go to the table. But regardless of the reason, at the very least someone should have at least acknowledged the situation/apologized for the delay. That's young pup restaurant stuff. The service situation did improve from there though. I got the blueberry ginger margarita, and my chum got a paloma. Both received top marks, and hers was served in a very edgy pottery-esque cup with a nice looking rim. We also both really liked our entrees. I went with the shrimp/chorizo quesadillas, which were tasty and VERY quickly served. I think we had our food within about 10 minutes of ordering, which arguably canceled out at least some of the earlier service issues. My chum was a little leery of how quick it was, but my argument would be that a lot of this genre's made-to-order options (if it was made-to-order) ARE fast by definition. Regardless, would 100% get that again and it was probably the highlight for me. I don't like crunchy shizzle in food, which typically makes Mexican not the go-to genre for me, so it was nice to find something that didn't have tons of salsa, onions, peppers, etc. roaming around. I don't usually have a ton to say about the bathroom situation (if it has one, that's basically my standard), but this one was a little odd and also went to the culture at this new restaurant. Every time we went in there - twice each - multiple staffers were in there just kind of hanging out, and the last time I was there, one of them was crying and being comforted by another. Huge, huge red flag and honestly something that would make me hesitate to come back. When I was a young pup, there was a Perkins in Phillipsburg that always had employees crying in the bathroom and after a while I pushed pretty hard for other breakfast options. It's just a terrible vibe and goes to overall management/culture, which we already knew was a bit of an issue from the beginning of our experience. The bathroom itself was notable because they clearly spent the time/money to build a pretty cool Mexican tile situation at the sink...and yet the rest of the bathroom looks incredibly rundown, with shades of NY Penn Station. For all the neat sink optics, I probably would have spread the money around and revisited that project later. Maybe they're just working out some kinks (as mentioned, I don't usually go to a restaurant until it's been open at least a month for that specific restaurant), but this is definitely still a work in progress. Hopefully they figure it out.

Finally the big empty restaurant in Ledgewood has been occupied by Sofia's Taqueria. It is a very bright building now you cannot miss it. This Tex-Mex restaurant was giving intriguing vibes since it's sorta a chain restaurant, it has locations in NY and South jersey. This is not authentic Mexican it's tex mex category just to clarify. We decided to visit on a weekday when it's slower to see their true potential. On a busy day it's not fair to give good opinions because as a former restaurant employee I know how chaotic it can get in a matter of minutes. We arrived and were welcomed immediately, we decided to sit at the bar. The bar area was busy and average loud ambiance. They have music playing but you can still have a conversation with no issues. We are hearing impaired but we were still able to hear each other and the staff. We were given menus and our drink order was taken. I decided to try an Agua Fresca Jamaica and my husband a beer. We went with small plates to share and chose the chicken flautas and Queso fundido with No Pico de gallo on a skillet. We received our small plates and for the price we paid it didn't meet our expectations. The crispy chicken flautas you only get 3 flautas cut in half so 6 halves. The filling was less than expected when they said it was braised chicken, corn and black beans. We also received the Queso fundido but it had the Pico de gallo on top (we said no Pico) and the cheese was not sizzling. It was a bit dry. While we are eating our small plates the young man passing out the complimentary chips and salsa dropped off some to us. The salsa you can tell they pre portion them because it looked a but air dried, it was definitely cold but that's the thing when you leave a salsa uncovered like that it develops a dull appearance. My suggestion to them just pour as you go don't pre portion it. They have homemade hot sauces -they were not bad but a bit too thin for me. I feel like the pineapple habanero one needed more of a flavor balance because the pineapple overpowered the habanero. The food was edible and the experience was ok. It didn't wow us at all. We always give places a 2nd chance so we'll give it a try another time. So this wouldn't be my first choice nor will I be daydreaming of going back but it would be in consideration when deciding where to go out. If you try it let me know your thoughts! Enjoy!

Nice spot, beautifully decorated great for groups or small parties. Food was good and service was quick, servers were attentive and brought out house sauces to try. Drinks were strong but my drink was a little too sweet for me (coconut margarita). Loved the music play list.

Ok, I'm rating 5 stars because I love supporting new restaurants but I would honestly rate my first experience here a 3/5. First, we came in at 6pm on a Thursday so we expected it to be fairly busy. I guess the side of the restaurant we were sat in wasn't. The bar looked much busier, and because there were only 2 of us, we definitely would have and SHOULD have moved there. Anyway we were quickly sat and immediately given chips and water, great! So why did we wait 20 minutes for someone to take our order? Workers were passing by us even when we tried to flag them down. I asked someone "Hey, can we please get a server?" And the person I asked says, "Oh. Yeah!" And pulled someone from the other side of the restaurant to wait on us. It seemed like they had no server on our side until they brought our server - who by the way was awesome. I wish I got her name, but she rocked and waited on everyone else who was waiting in our section. There was 2 other couples and 1 family. She didn't mess up our orders once, and everything was brought out very quickly. I think for our next visit, I would definitely sit at the bar, otherwise no one will know you've been sat. There seems to be a lack of communication between the front of house, judging from other reviews and mine. Overall, was super excited to try Sofia's out! Hopefully their staff get better training on greeting/checking in on guests.
