The renovated house, the friendly sockperts, the myriad of assorted foot coverings, all contribute to the comforting at ease sensation you'll never find in the harsh lights of an H&M or Gap. Like people, socks apparently come in a wide range of shapes, sizes, and styles (they even have different jobs). So there are half socks, footies, anklets, midcalves, knee highs, over the knee, thigh high, dream stockings, toe socks. And those were just the socks, there's accessories too. So far, with some staff assistance, I've just bought gifts for my much better half, both of which were well received and reasonably priced. Personally though I'm thinking about the dragon socks and/or the joker socks. Don't live in Portland, don't dispair. Unlike the food I blog about all this is available on-line, in fact their web selections surpass even their in-store offerings. I must have kicked it here for an hour. Learned that you can even layer socks over racy stockings and black boots to achieve a slightly playful but conservative look. Really, the possibilities are endless and there is something for everyone - men, women and kids. This store is one of the upsides to the chill factor- truly warmed me. I've ordered from this place before - in fact, now that I think about it before they have even had a brick & mortar store. I mean, how could you not? The selection is amazing and the site is continually well-maintained with help info on all the socks they list. I'd never found the time to meander to their store but once they offered a Groupon I knew my time had come. The location is a cute, older looking house that's (shocker) SOCK MECCA. While not as extensive of a selection on their site, it's nice to physically check out the socks you may want to buy. There was even some gorgeous hand-painted tights that were a bit too pricey for me - for the mere fact that I'm fantastic at ripping those to shreds using almost no force. My Groupon was for $30, I walked out of there with about $45 worth of sockies so yeah, it' hard to get out of there cheaply. I have no shame in saying that upon my first visit back to Portland in almost a year, Sock Dreams was definitely on my hit list. Every lady deserves a collection of cozy knee high socks. And there's nothing quite like tromping around the house in them with naught more than a tank top and skivvies. TMI, no doubt. But there you have it. Now, go try it. But before you do, look at the photos I got of Sock Dreams. That's my primary reason for doing this update. The store is pretty much laid out the same way it has been in the past, except they have more product now, so they're utilizing the wall space and the back closet area more. I adore the ruffled skirts and elaborate specialty stockings discreetly tucked away in the back section. And the children's socks? Good gods! Adorable enough to make the witchiest old hag coo. Still one of my favorite places to go for a treat for myself, or to find a unique gift for almost anyone I know. Just as a heads up: there's no a/c and poor ventilation in the Summer time, so wear layers. And a nice sturdy thick elastic garter that is strong enough to hold up socks, not just thin stockings to like most garters. They have a nice collection of related products as well such as leg warmers, arm warmers, and fingerless gloves to match your new socks. As a guy who wears socks but doesn't typically shop for them on a regular basis, I always kinda thought of them as the sort of gift that you get from your Grandma with $5 stashed inside. Then my girlfriend asked for them for Xmas. She was kind enough to let me know that a tube of them from Costco was not what she was looking for and sent me here. I used to have an amazing pair of super extra long/high black leg warmers, that actually FIT and accentuated my large-yet-toned thighs. Well, I lost one, and I've been hanging onto the other one for five years in vain hopes of it "popping up" in my laundry. Never happened, and these were hard to find. My only complaint is that the online store does not have many petticoats, there was a fabulous selection in the store. I am a petticoat collector and was hoping to order some when I got home. Oh Sock Dreams, how I love thee! I get all of my super-spiffy socks from Sock Dreams, though I usually shop on their website because I live in San Francisco. On a recent trip to Portland I decided to stop by their store front to check it out. The selection in store was much more modest than I had expected, but I still found a bunch of awesome striped thigh-high socks and a pair of button up nubbly leg warmers. The woman behind the counter was very friendly and offered to answer any questions I might have. If you shop online, they have hundreds of socks of all different lengths and shipping is always free. Sock Dreams is my life. Arm Warmers and long stockings: What more could you want in life? Another of the endless endorsements from women who find this place awesome (And an example of feminist empowerment, yay more women-owned businesses! etc), but really, I have an awesome collection of black, gray, white, blue and pink-and-black striped stockings all from them... And without them I could never have liberated myself with tube stockings which don't wear and rip open on my too-large feet for which I can barely find shoes, and before them, never socks. The arm warmers, of course, are a must here in the Pacific Northwest and let me wear short-sleeved clothes in winter, which is another huge thing I owe to them. I first found the place in 2008 and, well, beyond all the sexy women in garter belts there's kind of a fondness for the place from first having visited here with my lover of the time, but, hey, that isn't going to make me reconsider on bias the five stars I was going to give them, because really, they deserve SIX. read more

It's just CRAZY that so many of us are CRAZY about this flippin store. But seriously, it is out of this world. I once got a present of like 10 pairs of thigh high socks, that actually STAY UP, last forever, and feel soft and fluffy. They are great for Portland and us girls who are ALWAYS cold. I especially like wearing them to movies and with skirts, kind of like leggings. And the prices are great. It makes me want to go read all the other reviews from the million other people who give Sock Dreams five stars and find out just what other wonders of the world I need to discover. Lt. Dan was right. The one key item of clothing is socks. I am a sock person. I love quality socks and will go to great lengths to find the best of the best. The store is great and they offer a nice selection of high end socks. I ended up taking home a pair of Dahlgren alpaca wool socks and they have quickly become one of my favorites. My only criticism is that I couldn't quite figure out if there was any rhyme or reason to the organization - men's socks could be found in a few different places. But then again maybe that's the plan. I called my wife over a few times as I stumbled upon things she might like while searching for myself. The store's website is very well done. They offer a much more robust selection online, and the website is very easy to navigate. read more

I cannot express in words how much I love this virtual place. I've been ordering foot and leg adornments from here since they were Fetishise Me. I blog about it, I talk about it, I drive my friends crazy hearing about it. Once I had a mixup with an order (I'll take once out of the many, many times over the years compared to some places track records!), and I sent them an email to inquire what happened. The lady who runs the place is the person who actually emailed me back, and promptly, I must add. Everything was squared away immediately! And my precious socks (oh! socks!) came in 3 days. No matter where I've lived - Florida, Chicago, California - my wonderufl socks always come in 3 days. I love this place, their products and their service. I'm not surprised Sock Dreams is 5 stars on yelp! I live in Southern California and I stumbled upon this site by searching socks and it came up. Just in time for my halloween socks... I ordered two pairs, one for each of my costumes for this year. I ordered it on a Tuesday and I just received them TODAY (2 days later)!! I LOVE me some socks. I wear them religiously to bed and pretty much every day unless my shoes don't permit it. Due to this fact, Sock Dreams is heaven to me. They have a great selection (especially online) of socks but the store is also great to visit too. If I had a million dollars I would buy absolutely every pair of socks they have. Ohhhh socks, OHHHH socks, Oh socks, Oh socks, OH SOCKS SOCKS SOCKS SOCKS!!!! I still can't believe that so many different color combinations of stripes can exist in one place! And so many styles, and so many textures! Cotton, wool, chenille, lycra, spandex, merino, mohair, ANGORA, even! With laces and shoestrings and spangles and stars...anklets and knee-highs and thigh-highs and tights! After more than two hours of ogling the mix'n'matches, I was so deliriously happy that I fainted. Ok, maybe I just fell asleep ( it *is* almost 4 a.m. ) but still, I was completely joyfully mesmerizingly stupified. At first I thought, "how perfect, I'll do a little last-minute Christmas shopping, send a friend a couple of their pairs, have 'em delivered right to her house," but it soon became apparent that my thinking was more than a little self-delusional. Meaning? Well, really, I don't think anyone with a grain of sense in their little toe is going to believe that $171.00 worth of socks is destined to be anybody's wildest dream of a sock-a-palooza stocking stuffer! And sadly, not even mine -- I've never bought more than four pairs of socks at once, and this is no less than *e i g h t e e n pairs! I guess I'd better get busy putting a few pairs back...but how am I going to decide? I need them ALL! Poor socks, poor me...I want want want all the socks!
