My ticket

Still remembering the dreadful office of the Social Security Administration in downtown San Francisco, I was prepared for the worst, when I came to this location in sunny San Rafael: I had my original card misplaced and now needed to apply for a replacement card. I arrived on a Friday shortly after noon and was surprised to only find a handful of people sitting in the waiting area. I checked in at the terminal and then waited for my number to get called...which happened so quickly that I had barely opened the epic novel I'd brought, thinking I would make quite some advances! Cindy, the clerk behind the counter was great; not at all what I typically expect from a government employee. She took all my paperwork and when browsing through my visa noticed that I worked for Yelp. The tongue-and-cheek person in me couldn't help but saying: "Yes indeed...and let me tell you, the Yelp reviews of this place ain't good at all!" Expecting to be reprimanded or at least evil-eyed, I was then delighted to hear her equally tongue-and-cheeky response: "Well, the good thing about bad reviews is that customers stay away and we could certainly use smaller lines on certain days..." I thought this was brillant and to me this deserves a fabulous review. Thanks, Cindy, for restoring my image of the civil servant!

Over the years they have been very reliable and truly helpful people. Today, so many government offices are very poorly run (an understatement), and staffed by people who don't even consider that their callers are paying their salaries. However, at this office, every person I have ever spoken with (over the past ten years probably 25) has been amazing. Sure, there have been glitches, but nothing compared to other government offices. Not even close. The people working here, the people answering the phones, they are good people, real people, not robots, and also intelligent and kind. Thank you. You have a hard job, but you help so many people, and stand above the failings of the Social Security offices, and the Unemployment offices.

There was a process failure from DAY ONE, which cost 7 days of school for my daughter (maybe 8 once all is said and done), when it should have only been 3 or 4. The mishandling of our case from instructions to samples being lost, to the explicit failure of expediting our case from the moment of drop off, to the need to pay for care for my daughter while their mishandling kept her out of school, is really unimaginable in any healthcare setting. I work in healthcare, so I understand a great deal of how operations work. I hope I never have to deal with this office again, as I have zero confidence in their abilities.

My van stopped working altogether the next day January 9th. I was on my way to the Novato ER when my car abruptly stopped running in the middle of the road. It was early in the morning and no one had stopped to help me except a nice city worker who was kind enough to alert help since I didn't have a cellphone that had service to call for help. The police had helped push me out of the street and had warned me that I had 72 hours to figure out what to do with the car or it would get towed. The officers knowing my situation EXTREMELY WELL knowing I didn't have any way to do anything about the car financially or otherwise has left the car there in the same spot. Today is January 28th. I had received a letter in the mail on January 21st starting I owe $156.00 for CVC 22505(B), Posted Sign -No Parking. YOU OFFICERS ARE THE ONES WHO HELPED PUSH ME IN THAT DIRECTION INSTEAD OF OVER BY THE PARK AND RIDE WHERE WE ALL KNOW MY CAR WOULD HAVE BEEN SAFE UNTIL MY BOYFRIEND GOT RELEASED FROM JAIL! Also the Date for said "violation" is incorrect! Violation date states "11/13/2024"!?!?!? Shame on you Marin County! Talk about targeting and intimidation tactics to use on an extremely vulnerable population. You guys have been pretty cool up until this despicable action.
