The City of Lakeland has seven local historic districts with a combined area of 1.42 square miles. The districts protect more than 1,600 historic buildings and 13 individual landmarks. The Munn Park Historic District was designated a U.S. historic district on November 3, 1997 in Lakeland, Florida. It is named in honor of the city's founder, Louisville, Kentucky businessman Abraham Munn. Munn purchased 80 acres of land that now comprises the Lakeland downtown business district. The Munn Park Historic District is bounded by Bay Street to the north, Lemon Street to the South, Florida Avenue to the west, and extends around Lake Mirror to the East. The grand entrance to the district is the Lake Mirror Promenade designed by noted landscape architect Charles W. Leavitt. This historic district covers the main business area of Lakeland and includes many original buildings dating from as early as 1902. It contains 48 historic buildings and Munn Park which was the first open space in the city. Dedicated in 1884, it is the town square in the city. The Munn Historic District is an almost exclusively commercial district. Today you can enjoy historic buildings, dining, shopping, parks, and public art in this beautiful historic district It is very pedestrian friendly. Fun fact, Lakeland is the largest city in Polk County. Last year more people moved to Polk County than any other county in the United States. The future is looking bright for this stately, historic city.

Closer in around Munn Park there are great public art works, lots of fun and fine restaurants including Harry's, Black and Brew and Delivicious coffee spots, a Mexican place, Palace Pizza, and Fresco's bar and cafe place next to Palace Pizza. Lots to explore and enjoy. Architecture. Natahan's clothing store. Old school Gaines Geo Jeweler with retro signage. This is the all-American downtown you've been searching for. Art. Food. Architecture. Banks. It's alive. Come take a look and enjoy. Walkable.

They've been getting their butts kicked with COVID. Less staff, more business and more procedures that slow things down. These very essential workers get from me! I sell stuff on EBay all the time and they are always polite and fast! Yes, if you go at the wrong time you might wait behind 20 people but they are up there taking care of each person just how you would want to be taken care of and moving as fast as they can! Learn how to use the self service machine if you can't wait. This Post Office is great and mistakes happen. Get tracking numbers & get informed delivery, things happen. I've never had an issue and visit weekly.

They screw up getting mail to us, they don't take responsibility for their screw up; they can't be bothered to answer questions unless you come into the office. Even the office on Lakeland Hills Blvd. in Lakeland doesn't do its job and answer questions. Each year they keep saying they need more money per stamp, but the service quality drops more each year. Maybe we should just get rid of the post office what a waste of tax money!

My mother (who doesn't do tech) chose to get her own business class flight and apparently for Noseworthy this is a problem. They gave her misinformation about the airport to leave from and the date over the phone and so she booked her flight which then would have kept us in Ammon, Jordan (2 women alone) with no hotel and no way to get back to Tel Aviv. There was no offer to compensate and no admission of wrong doing. Somehow it was left to my mother to prove that it was Noseworthy's fault. Buyer beware...there is no integrity with this company if anything goes wrong, and if you talk to them on the phone, make sure you ask them to send you what was discussed in writing. My mother ended up having to spend $1800 on a new flight. Noseworthy also encouraged her to buy travel insurance and failed to tell her that it only covered ground transportation and wouldn't cover her flight because she was getting her own flight...another $600 wasted. The other thing is that they make you pay for the whole tour up front even though you are getting your own flight and they say that they will pay back the flight portion of the tour after you get home...waiting to see that money. There was another incident with her trying to cancel a hotel room 2 weeks ahead of time and they told her she couldn't do that so that was another $200 down the drain. We all know that there is no problem canceling hotel rooms 2 weeks ahead of time. That is a total of $2600 plus waiting to see if they actually reimburse for the tour flight. To be clear, my mother goes on tours regularly and makes her own flight reservations and has never had a problem. Their lack of willingness to take responsibility is mind boggling. Every person on our tour who made their own reservations had a problem and even some who didn't. I heard over and over again from people that they felt that they were speaking with 18 year olds.

Getting here is a bit convoluted, but GPS works well navigating the old neighborhoods. The library is also located at a bus stop that is well used. This particular library branch has both a poor reputation and ratings, mainly due to the homeless, but I have never seen any while here - and I've spent a lot of time here since moving to Lakeland. This library is incredibly clean, including the bathrooms. The librarians who work here have been very polite and helpful. They have a fantastic inter-library loan system, like larger cities, so I've not had a problem acquiring books. The system is quite quick. They not only loan books, but dvds and music cds as well and have a large display of them inside. They have a large shelf in the front selling discarded books. They have a large section for children, down a beautiful mural covered hallway. I have not checked that out, but from the proliferation of young families coming here, it's quite popular. There are also conference rooms, and from following them on Facebook, they have a lot going on here. It's easy for me to spend time at this library. The coffee house, Black & Brew, has a satellite cafe here and the library has a gorgeous rose garden all around it.
