I couldn't find my social security card which I needed for my new employer so my friend suggested that I stop by here and get a printed copy. Got a ticket and my number got called in 15 minutes! You'd think that if the gov't can spend billions and billions of dollars on national defense, that we'd be able to spend just an extra couple hundred thousand on these offices that are the ONLY way to get a replacement social security card. which is what I was there for. I did not have an appointment, so yes stupid me for that. Went in there, got a ticket.. the ticket was printed out from this computer and as i looked at it, I saw that it said 308 minutes.. then i took another look.. are you out of your mind??? 308 minutes.. thats like 5 hours of waiting time.. granted i think it was more like 3 because 30% of ppl grabbing tickets probably say f*** this. My number was K 569.. ah ha 69.. anyway there was no telling what number was last called like the dmv where they have tv screens to let u know where they are at in terms of numbers. it would have been nice to know where exactly i stand.. are we at K1 or are we at K565.. who knows.. theres no tvs to tell u.. only thing u can do is listen every 10 minutes for them to call a single number. So get an appointment or else dont bother going unless u dont mind waiting 3 hours for whatever ur going there for. And u cant make an appointment online u have to call them. sucks even more. How hard is it for me to go up there, give them an application ive already filled out and show them my drivers license... takes like 5 minutes... cmon i didnt even bother waiting.. tho i did come back like 2 hours later only to hear that it was at k560.. 9 numbers away.. prolly a 90 minute wait.. so screw that. social security offices suck a**. wtf. read more

Horrible service took my mom 4 times to apply for SSI first visit complete paper work after waiting for a few months we went back to check only to find out they lost all the paper work? How in the world they will lose everything. So again they started the application its been 5 months still no letter from social security when we went last time a month ago they just told us is in process. Does these really know what are they doing? Try another office with better luck but avoid these one. Going here was far easier than I could have hoped. -1 star for parking. The lot isn't terrible, it just doesn't have the most room for leaving and I think I got the last spot. No appointment. Got there 15 minutes before 9 and there was a line forming. They opened the door at 8:50 or so to allow people to start getting numbers. The office is upstairs on floor 2. You check-in with a machine. 9am is magical. Everything is quiet, then suddenly the office springs to life. Numbers are called immediately, all of the windows open. It is a beautiful sight. The person assisting me was friendly. They open at 9 and I was out of there by 9:30, definitely worth a good 4 stars. read more

So after reading all of the reviews, i don't think people really understand that it really depends on the day and the area. So this place is pretty much home for immigrants so of course it will be full. I've been here twice, first time, super fast, second time super slow. I still like this place cuz there is a parking lot so you have more chances of finding a parking spot, compared to the offices in the city, duh. So this is a government office and like every government office, expect a line. Just be happy it's not in a ghetto area with sketchy people. read more

I've read Yelp posts from others. Visted Thur 4/18 1:30pm without an appointment. Parking Lot / Side Street Parking: Ample parking in lot. Facility: Clean & well maintained with other businesses in the building. Restaurants, CVS, banks are nearby. Make sure you use the Kiosk first to input your social security # to start the process & take a number, with or without an appointment. No online appointments offered. Office: Sparce, but clean with 2 screens to provide # they are servicing, though no approximate wait time. After your # is called, one goes to the Check In Window. Another wait to see an agent, though one needs to be attentive, as their announcement is difficult to hear &/or fast or you will be passed up. My visit...30 minutes to approach Check In Window, 15 minutes to see an agent, David. I had all the documents & most information they required & had a list of questions for 2 separate issues. David was patient and efficient. Completed business at 2:45pm. All in all, went very well for the intent of this visit. read more

The staff here is very stuck-up, especially rude is the chinese man that works in one of service windows. During my visit along with my grandma, maybe 10% eye contact to either of us, while the other 90% is towards the wax he's scratching out of his ears. And also, when my grandma asked whether her medi-care card could still be used, he rudely replied "No, that doesn't expire, don't you see that." Zero is not even worth it! First time to come here, helped my Mom to apply ssi benefits and we had appt set but still waited for 1.5 hrs and on top of that we got the worst interviewer ever! No personality, no etiquette at all, so rude & totally no help! We went to a private room but still No privacy at all either coz of her Big mouth and of course next table could here the whole conversation. And to think she knows what she is doing or saying but No! She keep asking her co worker from next table...What??? She need to re train by management!!! (I hate to put down my own race (asian) but she is really too much to deal with that need to get fired! And she end up telling us to come back and wait again!!! 2nd day- 4/21- Went back! No appointment but waited for 1 hr again but I already expected that so I'm cool! But why I always get the worse person in there department????!!!! She even had a nerve to say "i called ur #twice" with her look face of why just now? What???? Seriously??? What's the matter of you guys working at social security??? The trick is to show up at the office after mid-month (the first few weeks of every month is their heavy visitor time). I walked in and got served immediately today. The professional agent was not only courteous, he was pleasant. Good information, quick visit, and in and out within only a few minutes. I use a walker, so I took the elevator out of the building. When I reached the door, I saw the professional agent looking for me--seems I forgot to take my receipt and he ran it down to intercept me with it. I just can't say enough. The only time I've ever gone to the SSA office was almost 20 yrs ago with my uncle's family when they immigrated to the U.S. and it was a horrid experience. We went to the one in SF near Kearny Street and I remember we got there before it opened and it had the longest line snaked around the block already. The entire ordeal took all morning. Thank goodness there is internet and Yelp now, I looked up SSA online before blindly going there again. After reading many reviews, I decided that my best option was to go to the SSA in Daly City where there is parking and likely less people. I read that around or after lunchtime tends to be lighter traffic, so that was my plan. But it was my Friday off so I was moping around at home and didn't get there until 3pm. Parking was easily found behind the building and I walked in to see about 20 people waiting. One staff member (security?) was near the entrance, but didn't say anything. After I glanced at the the small place, I saw the ticket machines to the right of me, touched through and answered general questions about what my visit was for and got a numbered ticket. I recall there were maybe 4 different number lists shown on the tv screen, each list probably for different types of visits. My wait was about 30 mins, then I was greeted by a friendly woman into the room. I felt good that I didn't end up going to one of the counters. She was nice and did just what needed to be done- helped process my name change. I walked out and looked at my watch. Only took a total of 40 mins! I thought it would at least take an hr if I'm lucky. I left feeling refreshed with a new name and my previous traumatizing SSA experience is almost deleted from history. read more

Had to get the name changed on my Social Security card in order to get my CDL renewed. Warning...name on all the required documents must match EXACTLY. Anyway, had no appt, on Tuesday morning ... got there at 8:45a (no appt), lined up with about 25-30 people ahead of me. They opened right at 9a. You have to get a ticket and wait for it to called. Once they call your ticket #, they take information about the nature of your visit/business. Then you sit and wait for your name to be called and when called again, you report the designated window and handle whatever you needed done. Was in and out within an hour. Everyone was helpful and efficient. Was dreading having to go on the spur of the moment without an appt, but wasn't at all as bad as some have reported it to be read more

UPDATE: Went back again on a Wednesday to get my SSN and arriving close to noon was a good idea again as everything was fast. I figured I'd arrive a little close to closing time and I wish I had! They close at noon on Wednesdays and I wanted to arrive close to 11:30-11:45 but ended up arriving around 11:20. When I got there, there were already A LOT of people. The employees, however, were really fast! There were about 5 windows, one interview room (with around 5 interviewers), and a self-help window. It took me about 40 minutes before I got called but only because there really were a lot of people. Some numbers were called and I guess some left cause they didn't respond. Around 11:30-45, there were hardly any people left. The lady I dealt with regarding my case was in a rush that led to some complications but everyone else seemed fine. Well, the good things about this location is that there is parking (though it is tricky even with a big lot) and that it's calm. It surely beats going to the Mission district or elsewhere. However, there is no getting away from the long waiting though. It would help if they offered appointment scheduling via the internet. An earlier reviewer claimed that one may make an online appointment, but that is not so according to their website. Only by phoning... So without any appointment one enters one information into a kiosk and a ticket with a number pops out. Waiting for around an hour after one gets called to a window. But it may not end there. No. If one needs any other services that the window clerk cannot process one will return to wait until one's name is called by a different rep. from the Interview Room. Now that turnaround can go quickly depending on the issue. Accompanying my parent we arrived at 11 a.m. and departed at 1:15 pm. Perhaps that's not so bad considering it's a government office...It's actually average judging from others' reviews here. The bad thing is that a few clerks lack a friendly disposition. Having never been to a social security office in my 64-1/2 years, I have nothing to which to compare today's experience. Having read the reviews and, certainly experienced in government and city and county bureaucracy, I arrived before the doors opened to deal with my issue. I almost had a meltdown, over the weekend when my medicare card arrived, bearing my maiden name but also that of the horrible husband from whch I had been divorced for 22 years and in which said decree restored my maiden name. I thought it was strange since, at the time, I immediately made all the necessary changes to IRS, SS, etc. I really did not have a long wait and the staff were very pleasant and properly sympathetic and accommodating. Don't let the high numbers on the "next in line" scare you because a lot of times, people have left before their number comes up. Someone leaving told us we would have 1 1/2hours wait. We went anyway and our wait was no longer than 30 minutes. SMALLER office which is nice. Bring a book, games on your phone just in case. And if you have to go to the bathroom-don't wait because you may lose your place in the "next in line" numbers game :-) read more

If I have the option to rate zero I would do it. This office used to be fast and convenient until there's a change of management. Our time and my time is precious. We all work hourly. But the way they take good care of people everyday sucks and it's getting worst. They have a new system now where you get your number and when they call they said "oh your just checking in and pre-screen". Such a waste of time and you're not only waiting for more than 30 minutes but to an hour or more. They have to call you twice. How this make a service good to a customer it's not fair! As I said such a waste of time, were paying taxes too and for sure some of the employee in this office are tax exempted, so please better your service. read more

Went here with my mom today to fill out paperwork about dad passing away, got there at 8:45, took elevator to 2nd floor, line was already so long. My mom can't stand that long, we waited awhile then decided to leave and call to make appointment, what a joke this place is, just like the dmv office. I haven't been to the SSA office in the city so I can't compare first hand, but the Daly City office was smooth sailing for me. I just came in for a name change after getting hitched. Based on other Yelp reviews, I timed my visit so that I arrived and grabbed my number around 3:05 on a Friday. I was out by 4:01. If it doesn't take more than an hour, I'm happy. I don't have high expectations for governmental offices so this was a great experience for me! Staff and security guard were friendly and not mean as far as I could tell. The waiting room is just full of mostly older folks, no weirdos like I might expect in the City. I found parking right in front easily. I also saw someone strolling in at 3:53 to grab a number before closing time at 4. Might be a good tactic too! read more

Pretty smooth thanks to Yelp reviewers - like another reviewer stated they open the doors at 8:45am, so you can get here this time and grab your number. I didn't have an appointment, but it only took about 45 minute wait time (all windows were open and this was a Wednesday). You're going to have to wait at any rate and this seemed to be a reasonable amount of time. There were about 20 people who came before me waiting in line to get in, so not too bad. read more

I have not been to the other one in Civic Center, so there is no way that I can compare the two. This one in Daly City overall delivers great experience for me. First off, it is easy to find a parking spot outside the building, as it is near a mall. The office itself it not so big and when I arrived at around 9:10, there had already been a lot of people waiting. The assistant was a very nice guy who often told people there were empty seats. The bad thing is that the monitor did not show the number of the customers being served correctly. I went to apply for my card for the first time and the application was done in 10 minutes, though I spent about 2 hours waiting. Great service overall. read more

If you can't snag an appointment, arrive at 8:15 (they open their doors at 8:45). From other reviewers it seems like you can get a mixed bag of people to help you. However, a pleasant woman named Kelly (she's in the interview room) helped my parents sign up for benefits. She was really patient and helped my parents answer all of their questions. I had to return the next morning to bring more documentation, but my mom and I ended up with a less than thrilled, slightly rude man who sat behind one of the windows--whatever. In case you have a tight window, it takes about 1-1 1/2 hours to sign up for benefits. It's quite a process! read more

She works at this Daly City Soc Sce Office and she is by far the most professional, dignified, and efficient emplyee of SSA I ever encountered. By the way, I met many good SSA employees along the way and not so great ones too. Here, there was minimal wait of less than 10 minutes total on Friday morning at 9 am. She sat us down, heard what we needed done and quietely and quickly took care of everything .... My God how this place has changed in the 3 or so years since I was there last. I blasted a guy for a bad review of this office, but I completely apologize, even though it is not in my nature to do so. The office is compressed in size and the waiting area was crowded within 10 minutes of their opening. They told me I would have an 80 minute wait (actually only 30, so I was glad I didn't leave). It's clear they have cut the staff to the bone, but in all honesty , they were still knowledgable and courtious, although that must be difficult. They are promoting on-line application, but the simple task I was after, to go from Plan A to Plan B Medicare cannot be handled this way. I received excellent service today at this office of Social Security. I was there to seek a recalculation of my SS benefit which is low due to an error made in 1984 that placed me in the wrong Federal retirement system. Getting it all sorted out has taken 7 years and SS is the last piece. I made an appointment some weeks ago and came prepared with the necessary documents (15 years worth of corrected W-2s) and a written cover letter explaining what I needed and why. When I arrived, I was greeted by a friendly Security person who helped me check in 15 minutes before my 9:30 a.m. apppointment. My name was called precisely at 9:30. Jess, my SS benefits counselor, was patient and listened carefully as I explained the rather complicated situation. Together we went through the corrected W-2s and compared what SS had on record. There were some discrepancies that Jess assured me he would resolve. He seemed very knowledgable and competent and explained how the underpayment would be resolved. I left in a positive frame of mind confident that my claim willl be resolved. read more
