Well! This is my 1k Yelp review and I was hoping that it would be special. It is. Why? Because I'm vacationing in my favorite New England spot...my happy place, P-town. Fairly recently, I chopped off my very long hair and donated it. It grows very fast and it's really easy to not go for regular cuts...kinda saves money and I'm super lazy when it comes to styling my mop. But my last cut didn't grow in well and it was driving me nuts. Snip to the rescue! I walked in yesterday morning and made a same day appointment with Rob. I didn't have anything specific in mind and trusted him to do his thing. Good hairstyling and cutting really is an art form. I could never do it...I literally have no style. Continue to LOVE this salon! Latest visit was with Billie Jean doing a two process color and short cut. Was pricey but it did take almost 3 hours of her time (two colors means going through the whole color thing twice). It was worth the time and every penny. I brought some pictures for reference, but then let Billie Jean modify the suggestions to fit my hair and face. I left loving what she did and got amazing reactions from all my friends and people I ran into. My friend Dave said to tell Billie Jean that it gets the "Provincetown gay boy seal of approval." Came to P'town for Bear Week as a grizzly, got a wild hair and decided on a change. I went to see Billie Jean at Snip for some color in my mostly white beard. She rocks and all the guys are really cool and welcoming. After a day, I decided the color was too dark she sat me back down and lightened it until I was happy with it. They say no good deed goes unpunished - well, it's time for Snip to get it's due! So here's my story: I was tossed - TOSSED, like a piece of flotsam - out of a different P-town salon halfway through my haircut for critiquing the stylist. I was sobbing and mortified: a girl's hair is extremely personal, and I felt like a piece of garbage. Andrew, of Snip, took me in (there isn't any other word for it), calmed me down, traded gossip about the offending stylist, salvaged the haircut, and, dare I say, improved upon it immensely, and he did it all for the low price of free. In the end, it probably worked out well for him (I am acquainted with Rachel, who posted below, and I can vouch that every word she says is true), so he gained two loyal customers, but I see it as not just good business sense, but a stylist with a little heart too. read more

I arrived in Ptown with a ragged mop of dry, hopeless, graying hair, and an attitude to match. In just an hour, give or take, the fabulously talented Lawrence had given me a new lease on, if not life, at least my hair. A great casual cut, an introduction to an easy, effective coloring product that is less dye than a light gray-reversal, a little of this and that, and I left feeling good. In explaining the coloring, he said, "it just makes your hair look sort of like it did five years ago." I was in P-town in need of a change after a bad coloring out-of-town experience that had finally started to wear off and grow out. After reading the Yelp reviews, and especially KM's review about how "Andrew" took her under his wing, I selected Snip. I asked for "Andrew" who doesn't exist, but had that same awesome experience with the owner, Lawrence. Lawrence actually opened early on a day when he was only taking special clients for a local event, and took the time to learn about me and what I wanted. He nailed not only a perfect new color, but a perfect cut that really gave me a great look that is still earning me many compliments. Since I live on the west coast, Lawrence was also gracious enough to write down his formula directions for my local stylist (not the same person who gave me the bad color!), and she has been able to maintain it to keep my gray roots from showing through. Loved his attitude about life, employees, and style. I highly recommend visiting Snip if you are in P-town. I'm sure you would get the same special treatment from everyone he has working there, but if you can get Lawrence to take you on, it will be a welcome experience. read more

I cheated on my regular hair dresser of 8 years, but I have no regret. While in Ptown on vacation, I found myself needing a change and I didn't have an appointment scheduled for another month. I have been growing my hair out for about almost 2 years, hoping I could donate at least some of it to Locks of Love. After scoping out a few Ptown salons and feeling less than impressed and not particularly welcomed in one of them, I popped into Snip. Jesus at the desk and incredibly friendly and accomodating. One hairdresser, Gerald, was cutting a woman's hair and the client overheard me. She is a local at the dentist office and she said how much she like Gerald. He was very friendly as well. After debating for 10 minutes, I made an appointment for the following week. The next day I changed the appointment for that evening. Gerald was awesome. I brought in some photos, we talked about my hair texture and what I wanted, and I asked him if he could cut in a way that would allow him to do his job, but allow me to donate it. Geesh, I can be high maintenance sometimes. No problem and he gave me a completely new look that made me feel completely refreshed. He was very attentive and I was comfortable when he took the first big snip that when I got home the longest layer was measured in at 11 inches. Everyone in the salon was very friendly and there was no attitude. I would definitely go back here again the next time I'm in Ptown. The prices were more than reasonable as well. read more

I LOVE this place! Billie Jean is the best stylist I've ever been to. I usually won't let anyone cut my hair because it's really long/thick/wavy and most people can't cut it well or style it. BUT.. Billie Jean is amazing!!!!! I came to her last year for my wedding hair.. I was incredibly nervous, but she did my hair EXACTLY as I pictured it, and she also did my makeup like a pro. I looked like I had gone to a professional makeup studio. Not only did I look natural and fabulous on my wedding day, but she kept me laughing the entire time! I am returning for a routine haircut this summer, and I'm very excited about it. I also told my husband about SNIP, and he goes there to get his hair cut too. Billie Jean did my hair for my wedding. AWESOME. I'd done a pretty casual trial run with my hairdresser at home in SF first, and just brought in some photos on my phone to show Billie Jean a rough version of what I wanted. She did a GORGEOUS job. I know I've used caps lock twice but my hair looked that good. If you have any sort of fancy event requiring getting your hair did, Snip is the place. Lots of other folks were in getting their hair done for weddings (lets face it, June weekends in P-town that's like 75% of what's going on) - and all of them looked great. Of course, some people were in for regular hair appointments and also left looking fabulous. Billie Jean was sweet, on time, friendly, attentive, and hilarious. Plus, it was a windy, rainy weekend and my hair looks perfect in all the pictures, so she's clearly a master at handling massive amounts of hairspray without giving a shellacked look. Overall, a great place. Even though the salon is small, everyone was really accommodating of my two friends who were hovering around my chair. I was very impressed and if I lived in town full-time I'm sure this would be my regular salon. read more

The day before my wedding, we realized that there was a mixup and someone had called the salon a few weeks prior and cancelled mine, my sister-in-laws and my mother's hair and makeup appointments. I just love it here. Lawrence is amazing, my hair always looks and feels fabulous! I had him color me for the first time today and he got it perfect. I already had complete trust in him as he has cut my hair multiple times, but today just sealed the deal. I also had Justine do a trial run for my upcoming wedding... she is such a sweetheart, easy to talk to and all I had to do was give her a quick idea of what I wanted and viola! Billie Jean is to hair what a brain surgeon is to the brain. I got my hair straightened with the Keratin Smoothing Treatment last week and not only did Billie Jean have a great chair-side manner, she also did a great job on my hair! It's wavy underneath and straight on top, which is fine by me! I'm very satisfied with my treatment. It used to take me an hour to dry and straighten my hair, now it only takes about 7 minutes. Also, two salons in Orleans recently butchered my hair, and Billie Jean fixed it immediately! Snip is a high-quality salon right here on the Cape, and we are lucky to have it! Straight to Snip I will go the next time I need anything done to my hair. (Especially since salons in the Orleans area provide ROTTEN haircuts.) read more

It's going to have to be a no for me. Recently I lightened my hair, and I came in to get the ends freshened up to make it easier to detangle due to having curly hair, the woman who cut my hair went to wash it and afterwards once she went to brush it she ripped the brush through my hair, didn't bother to gently detangle my hair especially considering it's in a more fragile state after lightening. I saw chunks up my hair in that brush, she didn't start from the bottom and work her way up like you should with curly hair, just ripped it through, breaking off hair until it was detangled. Maybe it's my fault for not going to a stylist who knows how to work with curly hair, but it's common sense to be gentle after seeing that you're literally ripping someone's hair out, I have brushed through my hair plenty of times since I've lightened it and NEVER have I ever had so much left in a brush. This created frizz when my hair dries, random pieces of my hair are shorter than others, of course my curl pattern isn't the same as it was before lightening but now I can't get them to curl AT ALL even after defusing. This woman destroyed my hair. Didn't even finish styling my hair after the cut, it was half dry and fell flat. Then by the end of it she tells me "that'll be 75 dollars". I will never ever recommend this place. read more

Get your hair done here. Ask for Lawrence. He is a hair god. He is so good that I won't get my hair done in boston anymore. you will be gorgeous if you sit in his chair. I have actually had people stop me on the street to comment on how great I look after his cut. o, and he really cares about showing you how to replicate at home (not that I can!). None of that hairdresser snobbiness -- he gave me a lesson on how to trim at home. It doesn't get any better than that. Danny is pretty awesome too. I can't vouch for the other guys, but they are all super cute and sweet and fun and the place is funky and fun, and they occationally have a local celebrity stop in for a trim. You know you have a good haircut when strangers stop you on the street to compliment your hair. I was unhappy with where I was getting my hair cut and everyone I talked to suggested Snip. I made an appointment with Lawrence, the owner and he seemed to understand exactly what I was asking for. I got a great haircut and color and excellent customer service. Since that day, at least three people have come up to me in Provincetown and told me they like my hair. Nothing makes you feel better than that! read more

I have short, fine hair and I always ask for the same kind of dyke-pixie cut, something to keep my hair from being boring. I think it needs a very sharp (kept sharp) straight razor. The cuts I usually get are nearly 'on' but there's always a little something missing. (Even at the hip salon in the major city where I live.) Justine got the cut exactly right. And she advised me to spritz salt water on it and avoid conditioner for best results. Good advice. She's genuine, funny (droll) and a true hair artist. She knows her stuff. Also: The online booking was easy. The prices are so super reasonable for this kind of stylist knowledge and experience. They should make it seem easy and they do. But it only seems easy because they know exactly what they're doing. I liked that the salon was open late. I felt welcomed when I walked in.
